Well, since apparently I have so much fucking energy, there's 12, count 'em, 12 fucking ports this time, all of them are new too; I made some fixes to older ports of mine too, so let's get right to it I guess
Cyberblock Metal Orange: Stage 1 (V2) - So, this one, as you can see by the big V2, needed much more than a fix, mostly because this was one of the AMK ports I made when I was still trying to learn AMK, and because of that it didn't have the same quality as my other stuff. So now, since I had a few Hitoshi Sakimoto SNES samples (if you don't know him, check him out; he's a fucking great VGM composer honestly), I decided to use them since Sakimoto actually worked on this game's OST with a few colleagues, so I tried to do this in a way Sakimoto would make it if it actually had a SNES port; I also used a few extra samples tho, like the Megaman X2 crash cymbal and marimba and Megaman 7 hi-hat, but I do hope I managed to get the feel of his SNES songs right at least lol
F-Zero Climax: Illusion - This one is fairly simple in terms of how it sounds, but that's mostly because of the fact I didn't have enough ARAM for echo, so it doesn't sound as grand as it should. that's it lol
Gimmick: Good Morning - Well, since there aren't enough Gimmick ports on the website, I thought I'd do something about that Contains both a unsampled and a sampled version with Kirby and Earthbound samples btw.
Kirby Super Star: Milky Way Wishes and Way of the Fighting King - Yup, two Kirby ports this time! Kirby always had some banger music, and I always had some especially fond memories of this game in particular, so why not make two ports of it? Both are title themes btw, first one is from the (you guessed it) Milky Way Wishes campaign, and the second is from The Arena; surprisingly tho, most of it's uses wouldn't even be in a title theme, depending on the situation they could work quite well as overworld themes too! Think wisely on what use you want this to have
Megaman 6: Mr. X's Castle (X1 Style) - This one is, believe it or not, my first full Megaman X styled SPC with AMK! And while there was another SPC I made with musicalman that solely used Megaman X samples (and of course, almost all of my ports LOL), this one was actually the first time I did it without anyone's help, so this one is a bit special this time around.
well actually, YuzuMSX did help me to perfect the style a bit, but most of it was still mine okay >:[
Shovel Knight: A Thousand Leagues Below - This one is also a tad bit simple, but it still sounds pretty good if you ask me. I was also trying to emulate a certain style with this one, and that is, you guessed it, also Hitoshi Sakimoto related! This uses the echo and samples from Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei (specifically the Daedalus stage), which is a pretty obscure SNES remake of the first two Megami Tensei games, which Sakimoto himself did the arrangements for this remake. It also uses a lot of PSG/chiptune/8-bit sounds (whatever you wanna call them), and because of that I thought I'd emulate this style specifically since, well, Shovel Knight is also in that same style (I mean, it was made with Famitracker for fucks sake), so
Sonic CD (US): Stardust Speedway (Bad Future) (Fixed) - Unlike my CBMO port, this one was a lot more new, so I just had to fix a few stuff with this one (mostly the guitar and some desync problems, but I also did a few other stuff like make it sound fuller overall), and honestly I'm still not sure if this is good enough to submit (especially considering how many people were talking about the bass having the wrong notes at a Discord server I'm in), so maybe I'll update this before C3 ends. If I could get some help on it before then tho, it would be nice, haha
Super Hang-On: Outride A Crisis - This one was a biiit hard to do, mostly with the cymbals being cut off a lot in the song, but thanks to LadiesMan's help, I managed to fix that. Some stuff might be a bit icky still, but other than that I think I did good here.
Oh and btw, this port is absolutely MASSIVE, so I dunno if you'd be able to use this in a hack unless your hack doesn't need too much space in the first place; just a warning lol
Now here's a description for my Idol 9 Round 1 and 2 ports, if anyone wants them (considering how low I ranked in both of those lol):
Round 1: operation.spc (A.K.A Megaman Battle Network: Operation (Battle Theme): Yup, another Megaman port, this time from the Battle Network series; apparently this was actually quite a bit obvious to figure out by a few people on the SMWC Discord when the voting started, which I can kinda understand since I'm sure a lot of people will notice I'm a huge Megaman fan right from the start, haha; this got the penultimate last place on Idol, which is pretty justified IMO since this port was actually very simple; in fact it was done hours after the round was first announced, so shame on me ; I do hope someone likes it tho!
Round 2: aquaillusion.spc (A.K.A Gradius 3: Aqua Illusion): This one was a bit harder to make (took me two days), mostly because out of all the FIR effects I put into this one, along with the planning of what I should actually do with the requirements on this round (even asked Harumi/Izuna about it at one point on Discord); in the end, I decided to make some sort of whirling effect with the noise channel, which basically involved getting a bunch of pitch envelope noise instruments and using them to make the noise go up and down in pitch, along with some pan fades to make it sound nicer (tho some people didn't like that, but meh); then, I used a variant of the Seiken Densetsu 3 FIR filter and made a sort of LFO effect with it like the panning to control the amount of echo the channels 4 and 5 (on SPC700 Player) should have. However, since I haven't messed with FIR filters like that AT ALL until this point, I don't think I had as much control over this as I wanted to; then, I used the pitch modulation on the marimba parts to make it have more body, and I used up the surround sound on the lead channels, which IMO I don't even know why I did it in the first place, but whatever.
And now, what you're all waiting for... the PORTS!!!
*insert text here*
Here's a YT playlist too, just in case. >;]
Aaaaand that should be it! Sorry for all the text btw, but I really wanted to make a lot more effort with this thread; I do hope the formatting isn't too messy lol
also I'm never talking like this and posting this much shit again, like damnit, I wasted wayyy too much time on this and now I'm hungry AF
NEW! Round 3: sky.spc (A.K.A Battle Garegga: Fly to the Leaden Sky) - This one was actually pretty fun to make honestly, especially on the percussion department; I honestly had no idea both a bass sample and a freaking thunder SFX sample would work so well for a heavy TR-909 like electronic kick and a clap respectively, but god damn I'm really glad with the results here. I also took quite a few cues from Lui too, even took some of his ADSR envelopes and used a lot of tremolo + vibrato commands on the lead and the backing, which was mostly inspired by his VLDC compositions which uses that same setup on the lead
I got 3rd place here too, which was damn surprising since I didn't think I'd get this far at all; heck, most of the people which weren't doing well in Round 1 and 2 got a pretty good place here, so honestly I'm really happy both for me and for them
