Wakana's C3 thread: full hack + some ear-ports

Wakana's C3 thread

Welcome in my C3 thread!
Since this year I have way less ports than usual, I'm going to make only one thread, containing both the thingies I want to relase for you.
I hope you don't mind the tiny bits of CSS lol, I recently made an exam about it and I enjoy fancying stuff with it so much.
Anyways, without further ado, let's get into the actual core of the thread shall we?

DOWNLOAD

Super Wakana Land is a full-chocolate SMW hack which started more than three years ago. Originally, it was a small hack which I used to mess around with, while also developing Touhou Mario 2. During the years, me and Vitor got more and more busy with our lives, and after losing almost all the motivation for it, Super Wakana Land took the main priority.

The story is rather silly: Wakana is a sort of goddess/youkai/shrine maiden/w/e thing, and owns a small temple which common humans can visit and give donations. One day, she goes off to relax in the nearby hot springs, since nobody was visiting her most of the day... and when she gets back, the donations box isn't anymore!
Despite Wakana isn't too attracted to money, the donations box itself is very special to her, since it was a gift from her ancestors. And so, without thinking twice, Wakana starts her adventure, meeting monsters, SMWC users and friends, obstacles, weird gimmicks and boobs.

The moment it was created, Super Wakana Land aimed to have like 20 exits or so. During the years, I learned ASM while developing this, and ended up adding more and more levels, some of them containing gimmicks made entirely by me with UberASM Tool. As you see from the hack page, now it has a total of 69 exits. Its main goal kept unchanged during the years though: give to you, SMW community, something that's drastically different from the everyday vanilla Mario hack. I immediately state that the aim wasn't to be perfect in level design, so don't expect this to be a JUMP-quality hack. The aim was to make a different game, with as many different things as possible, starting from the original SMW.
I must also point out, that the hack contains some levels which may be extremly frustrating to get done. The hack page says it's "Hard", but this, because levels go from baby easy to inhuman hard. The hack also is very, VERY demanding to 100%, due to tons of secret things to discover, while it shouldn't be too hard to finish the main story only (around 20-30 exits if you go with the shortest route).

Many people helped me so much during the developing of this hack, but I feel like mentioning someone in particular: Sariel. I can't hide that testing was overall very disastrous: many of my testers, for some reasons or others, quitted testing the hack, not even reaching halfway. Sariel has been the only one which kept supporting me day and night for the development of the hack, testing the hack fully more than once, and giving great support. If today you're able to download and play this hack, you should also thank Sariel, for the amazing and wonderful job he did during the last months of developing. Thank you so much, Sariel! #fim{<3}

Last, very important thing to mention, before you start playing this: the hack isn't for everybody!
It contains NSFW content, disturbing imagery, bad words, sensible topics (like weed), epilepsy inducting levels, and so on. I personally don't recommend you playing this hack if you're not atleast 18 years old. The hack page also warns you, as well as the readme inside the .zip, so if you get disturbed by something while playing it, you can't complain since I warned you everywhere. #tb{^V^}

Said this, I really hope the rest of you enjoy this hack as much as I enjoyed swearing to god due to random stuff exploding for limited space developing it.

Wakana's C3 Ports!

DOWNLOAD - YOUTUBE PLAYLIST

This year's pack is different from the other years' ones. Infact, everything (except Shooting Stars) has been ear-ported!
Ear-porting means pretty much... porting with your ears. This is the first C3 I attempt this: in older C3s, all the ports I did had a MIDI made from other people, and I only had to make it fit in 8 channels. Now, even MIDIs have been made by me!

Here's what's in the pack:
- Bad Riders - Shooting Stars
- Castlevania: Curse of Darkness - The Visitor in the Silk Hat
- Duck Tales - Amazon (arrangement)
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run - CELL-OUTS
- Wario: Master of Disguise - Count Cannoli boss battle

To whoever wants to attempt ear-porting, perhaps I could share some tricks I use all the time:
- Always take an .mp3/.wav/.etc of what you're earporting. Comfyness is the first thing, you don't want to search up for the song in Youtube all the time;
- Audacity is great! I always use two effects to make my life a bit easier when getting notes by ear. Said effects are: "TEMPO CHANGE", so that you can slow the song down without messing up with its pitch. This is great for nailing fast notes better. The second effect is "AMPLIFY BASS", this is great whenever the bass of your song is muffled and you can't get the notes of it. It was the case in some parts of my CELL-OUTS port, and it helped greatly.

Oh, do note that I also put MIDIs I made inside the .zip as well, just to show you how I made them. Obviously, some of them may sound a bit half-assed in some parts. My aim was to have a solid base, which later on, I used to make the actual ports.
I hope you enjoy, both the ports and my tips!

Whew, and another C3 is done. I hope you enjoyed my content.
Happy C3 to all of you, have fun!
I really like hacks that take the Mario formula and kinda just throw it away to make something that really feels unique.

From the trailers I have seen previously I have been waiting to try the character and see how she controls and moves around the levels.
Overall it looks like it'll be a blast to play and I'll make sure to leave some feedback as I progress through it.

Lastly your ports are really good. I heard them mainly on your Youtube channel but now with them been released... Thanks :D

Screw that, I'm not waiting two years to play this amazing-looking hack! I'm giving it a go once I have a chance to, though. I also gave your ports a listen, and they sound really great! You must have some next level type of musical ear or something.
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
wakana land ヽ(^。^)ノ
Ear-ports are hard, aren't they? I must say, these ear-ports you've made are pretty good! My favorite being the Count Cannoli Boss Battle Theme.

Due to the heavy amount of asm this hack uses it doesn´t work on ZSNES. I recommend ZMZ instead.

About the hack:
You know my opinion Wakana and i´d test it many times again for you #fim{<3}

About your ports:
I always loved listening to your wips and i´m really happy with the results you release this c. Earporting is certainly tough. It´s also tough to pick a favourite, but i think it would be the Ducktales one :3

This hack is so edgy, I almost got cut. You better be more careful with all that adult content next time.

nice >:]

I dunno if I'd really play this hack anyway, but now I'm intrigued about the adult bits of it; should be pretty nice to do a runthrough of this game now lol

also how in the fucking world do you manage to make every single one of your C3 thread OPs so crisp and smooth??? I'm honestly VERY shit with formatting my posts, and seeing threads like this just makes me wonder #wario{-_-?}

It's a good thing I'm 20 now.

Not like that matters much tbh. Can't wait to play this.

(rip my other userbars momentarily)

I'm really enjoying the hack. The writing and tone isn't my cup of tea but the art and gameplay are top notch. I'm currently a bit over 20 exits into this and I've enjoyed just about every single level. So far there's a pleasant variety in gimmicks and themes. The only one I don't like so far would be this one really dark cave level, and that's really just because I really don't like having my already-poor vision get even more impaired.
I really like the basic movement of the character. I like the health bar. The projectile always feels satisfying to wipe out hordes of enemies with and gathering collectibles to refill MP or gain more hearts is incredibly satisfying. Secrets and challenges are perfectly designed with the player's expanded aerial mobility in mind.

I'm not a fan of the ground pound move. It feels redundant when the spin jump is around and I don't even think it deals any extra damage against bosses. I've only seen uses for it in breaking through specially-breakable bricks and getting through a certain silly blockade in an early level.
The slide move is pretty easy to do by accident when trying to drop an object I'm holding, crouch while moving, or enter a pipe. I found myself constantly wasting MP and losing my positioning with it. Levels like "Slippery Darkness", which require you to crouch and slide, burn through your MP when they really shouldn't need to.

The excellent presentation and the fun level design really give this hack a solid edge. It's probably the best hack I've played this year.
On the subject of compatibility: I've been playing this on SNES9x for 3DS on an old XL and it seems to behave perfectly fine. I haven't seen a bit of slowdown and nothing seems out of the ordinary. There doesn't seem to be a tune when dying but I don't know if that's the emulator's fault.

this post was so hard for me; i kept rewriting it so many times
awesome a perfect excuse to use the snes emulator on my 3ds :D
Its jowke

This hack looks perfect!
My goal is i'm gonna beat this game!
