The rules should probably clarify that PIXI is required.

1. Changing the palette of a sprite falls under graphics, which is allowed within the rules.
2. Vanilla sprites are explicitly allowed in the rules.
3. Patches that don't affect the custom sprites are allowed (this has now been clarified in the rules).
4. You're not technically required to use all the sprites, but by not doing so you're sacrificing sprite usage points (we expect you to use all of them creatively for full points there).
5. Blocks are not allowed. This has also been clarified in the rules.
6. Sprite usage is such a big category because the whole point of the theme is to be able to use the sprites you're given in creative ways. If you haven't achieved that, you've pretty much missed the point (This should probably be called Sprite usage/Creativity).
Update: Note 6 has now been reflected in the rules.
Thank you for answering my questions. I was also wondering..
So what sort of patch modifies a sprite? A low gravity patch for example?

I was considering having sprite usage more valued then fun but apperantly that was ignored so /shrug

We originally considered only 1 sprite set so 5 should let there be enough variety. I hope.

Also @Latios this is no place for personal problems but rather discussion about the contest.
That seems.. sorta odd? But I guess it makes sense if we are basically calling sprite usage "creativity". I mean, is this a design contest, or a tech demo of the sprites, where we show off their intricacies? I would think it would be the former, so "fun" is obviously more important. It's a bit of semantics though, cause if you use sprites well, your level should also be pretty fun. I sorta question the need for this category at all.
Having 5 sprite sets is not gonna increase the variety much at all. People are still going to immediately figure out which sprites are fun to use together and which feel funky together. Of course, there will be plenty of variety in design itself.
I also really hope the "sprite usage" category isn't some arbitrary category that encourages people to use all 5 sprites, even when only using 1 or 2 is better.
