This guy mentioned 4 BG layers.

Looks good, and at the same time... not right. Background still looks somewhat detailed to me. You'd better to apply more NES limitations in here to make it look more natural. 4 Layers sounds too much.
Ayy, this hack looks really nice. I'd like to try level design, since I apparently can't make ROM Hacks by myself at all.
For the followers of this project, the latest version (beta0.0.1.1) is going to be presented at C3. Stay aware if you want.

Version beta0.0.2 has been released with world 1-2 finished and a lot of stuff more done. Check the changelog in the main thread for more info.

From this point on now versions with unfinished levels will be less frequent and if they are released, they will come with major features.

Sometimes I like to make a level in smb ultility, transmorgifer, smb3 workshop etc first, then bring it over to LM. It can help a more nes feel.

You have a nice level design technique here, I could possibly do that in one of the next levels (unless the tools are similar to Lunar Magic).

I think this is already my favorite SMW hack ever. The entire time I played it, I couldn't help but have this stupid smile on my face. Besides the background, it felt exactly like an official NES Mario game. I was, and still am baffled on how you made Mario's animations like the ones in SMB3, like throwing a fire ball. I really don't have any negative things to say about this. It's a beautiful project, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
Expect little to nothing from me for now.

Player graphics are the only thing I do right, so come tell me to make one you want.

Go to my profile for more trash of mine.
yep, I just finally played this. It's super fun to play. I hope you keep this alive. Those sound effects are awesome, I've been trying to make them like that for a few years now but no success :(
Hope this is still alive!

After nearly two months, update Vbeta0.0.3 and Vbeta0.0.3.1 have arrived.

What's the difference between the two?
Vbeta_0.0.3.1 has bugs fixed from 0.0.3 like noise channel being stopped by noise SFX in world 1-3's theme. I'm making the changelog in paste.bin an .txt so it doesn't makes the main post huge.

You mean compared to SMW or the previous version?

I haven't changed them in these two updates. The modifications I've done to them is that you can't press A while in air to give you "gravity" while in air and when running, jumping and turning while in air it's harder to turn like in SMB3. Also I've removed the spin jump.

I just played the beta/demo for myself after having watched Stiviboy's video of this hack earlier. Physics-wise, this does indeed feel like SMB3, but the overall presentation reminds me more of New Super Mario Bros. due to the visuals and Star Coins. The NSMB influence is NOT a bad thing though. It kinda makes me want to hear more 8-bit versions of NSMB songs later in the game.

The only complaint I have about this is that, when a kicked object is allowed to go off the left side of Screen 00, the game freezes. I know this is a side-effect of the Shell-Collectible Coins/Yoshi Coins patch. If you know enough ASM to try debugging that, please do so. I, along with another user, have commented about the freezing on the patch's submission page.

EDIT: While recording a Let's Beta-Test video for this, I found a glitch in the third level. Upon re-entering the level from the checkpoint, you see a cutoff wall of dirt covering the right-hand side of the screen for a second after the level fades in. It disappears too quickly to determine if it's game-breaking, but such graphical gaffes kinda break up the overall beauty of the visuals.

Here's the video I was talking about.
Quintesson Judge: Silence, or you will be held in contempt of this court!
Hot Rod: I have nothing but contempt for this court!
- Transformers the Movie (1986)
What a great job. 😄 that hack has a lot of amazing ASM we like to see. We want to see more in C3 soon.

Sure I can try to fix that.

Yes that issue happened me too and I left it because I couldn't find how to fix it nor what caused it. I'll try to fix that thing in the next version.

Did try moving the re-entering postion? Maybe tweaking that could help.
