Bumping this, since I ran into an issue.

Me and my friend Sariel did some tests in ripping some .pal files from pics. We noticed that ripping this won't work, while this does.
First pic is taken by me using Windows 10 (64 bit), while the second is took by Sariel using Windows 7 (64 bit).

I'm assuming it's because of the window border or something? I tried taking various pics of this palette, but all of them simply don't work.

I'd really appreciate if this would be fixed (assuming it's an issue from the tool, unless I messed up), since I often use this.

I take it the tool finds no palette at all? That would be the fault of your monitor's scaling - at 125% the color "squares" are 18x19, while the program expects them to be 16x16.

This seems to be a common issue, so the next time I touch this I'll be sure to add support for hiDPI or whatever it's called. In the meantime, I'm afraid the easiest workaround is to temporarily change your scaling back to 100% while taking the screenshot. #tb{''}

... had no idea that scaling monitor was a thing.
I can confirm, setting scaling to 100% made it work flawlessly again.
Thank you for considering this issue though (and for making me discover such a thing on my pc lmao).
I sat down today and tackled the issue of monitor scaling, and it wasn't as tedious as I thought! Only took me an evening (assuming there aren't any major bugs left).

It's kind of unfortunate timing to have something to release right after C3, so I figured I'd declare this a beta for now and delay the official submission until whenever.

Download version 1.1 (beta)

Changes:
  • now supports screenshots made with monitor scaling settings of 100%, 125%, 150%, 175% and 200% (that was all that was convenient for me to test, and it should cover enough use cases)
  • now auto-closes when a file is dragged and dropped onto it (and no errors occur)

I'd appreciate if you guys could give this version and try and see if it works as expected! #tb{:)}

(@Wakana, do you still have a 32-bit machine and can confirm the tool still works on it?)

palGenerator.exe: PE32 executable (console) Intel 80386 (stripped to external PDB), for MS Windows

80386 = 32bit
<blm> zsnes users are the flatearthers of emulation
That answers that. #tb{:)} Thanks Alcaro!
