4) The Big Boo's Legion

Yeah, didn't play too many scary hacks. Because they are just to damn creepy #smw{:x}

What is yours?

I don't have a list but I'd say Massimo. It's not scary in a sense but the atmosphere can come awfully serene to awfully creepy.

Also there was that M A R I O hack/creepypasta awhile back that spooked a few peeps.
They're not all necessarily Halloween hacks, but the creepiest SMW hacks I've played were:

1. Jigsaw's Test: Despite being a very short hack, it was one of the most unique one's I've played for its dark and morbid feel and gameplay. Sure, you could make Mario self-injure before, but never with a knife.

2. The Haunt: I thought the whole atmotosphere of this hack was pulled off very nicely: the music, graphic, and palette choices all attributed to a very eerie level.

3. Some hack by Ghettoyouth with a castle level with impaled, bloody Toads: Yeah.
I don't have a Top 5...

I just like the Jigsaw's Test: Unfortunately is a Too Short Demo, but is Really Impressive, Gameplay, Graphics and Musics.

Huh, I never knew my hack was a Halloween hack (especially considering that it was released somewhere around Spring 2009), and I never thought it would be scary. #ab{:P} Though I admit, there were a few "creepy-ish" levels.

Also, I found The Haunt and Jigsaw's Test pretty creepy. Especially the first one, it was so twisted and had that awesome chilly music.
Maybe M A R I O ...I know, it's not an halloween hack, but it's the creepiest one I played so far.

1) M A R I O
2) The Haunt
3) Jigsaw Test
I haven't really played much those kinds of hacks, but the one I tried, The Haunt, gave me one of the biggest creeps in my entire life. I mean, the path down the bad ending was goddamn scary. And the big boos, OH THE BIG BOOS.

I kind of meant any hack that's Creepy.
The reason why I picked that was because it had a little bit of creepiness at the end of the hack.

You mean Mushroom Kingdom Meltdown Panic in the Mushroom Kingdom? I don't consider it that creepy. There where only a bunch of dead things though.

Creepypasta Hack? I searched it on YouTube, and I admit that it does seem a little creepy. Not the creepiest hack ever though.

E: I notice that now? That wasn't MKM, it was PITMK.

The original version of Mario Wakes Up was a very short and simple yet surprisingly effective exercise in creating a creepy atmosphere with largely (though not exclusively) vanilla resources.

Bear in mind that the expanded version available in the hacks section is a decided downgrade, however, as the newer areas don't live up to the promise of the originals, and even the original areas have had their impact diminished by the addition of atmosphere-destroying dreary music, and an over-explaining intro scene which robs the entire work of much of its compelling mystery.
Do any hacks have jump-scares? That would be interesting.
don't click this link...
I didn't play many of these but I'd go for The Haunt and Jigsaw's Test. They aren't scary, but the atmosphere is pretty creepy, especially in The Haunt.
M A R I O is the probably the Top, that's not saying a lot though.
I did feel some unease, especially during the cave sections, but not anything I would consider legitimate fear.
Call of Cthulhu seems promising.
layouts suck
Haven't really played that many, but I did download the zip file containing the entries from that contest.

From what I've played, The Haunt is definitely the most creepy hands down.

I thought SCORPION's Temple (a level from the contest, later appeared in The Fourth Sector) was rather creepy too, but I'm sure that the new version is going to be even more dark.

Vanilla Twist!
If you guys haven't played Massimo, I suggest you do now. It may not be a great hack, but I've never seen atmosphere more competently accomplished than that hack. It was really impressive.

Also a very eerie game. i really enjoyed it.
Mario's Exodus to Death

This is the hack that comes to mind when I hear the word "creepy," it's a tad haunting too but not so much scary. Maybe it is a bit of nightmare (moon) fuel since the atmosphere is really atmospheric...

I wish Soul2Limbo would finish/update it ._.
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
I can't think of any real frightening hacks outside of like game.bps?

Mario's Journey Through Time & Space does scare me with how horrendously bad the hitboxes are does that count

Hey! Also has the 'the.
if I were to make a top 3 of halloween hacks complete, I would even include it. (and Game.bps)
I am pretty sure bump rules only apply if you're not contributing to the thread you are bumping, which ironically enough
