Super Mario Legacy

Super Mario Legacy is a traditionally styled hack featuring 140 exits over 75 stages, heavily inspired by Super Mario Bros. 3 and Yoshi's Island.

I had planned to release it during this event, and I pushed for that hard over the past few weeks. However, I had to deal with a plethora of glitches and bugs, most of which related to accuracy emulators. With this being a 4+ year old project, fixing these issues took quite a bit of effort on my side. In the end, I did actually manage to finish the hack, but I wasn't able to thoroughly test the result yet. It is for this reason that I decided to not release the hack. I'm now aiming for a public release somewhere in early March 2018.

Some features:
- Colorful SMAS-styled graphics;
- 140 exits; 75 stages; 9 worlds;
- Two-tier difficulty system;
- Implements SA-1;
- Bowser;
- Long and challenging levels featuring multiple midway points;
- Designed to be enjoyed without the need for save states;
- Lots of optional collectibles for completionists;
- A secret new power-up;
- Soundtrack consisting of over 50 tracks

And some random statistics for fun:
- 417 levels inserted;
- 131 midway points;
- 149 custom blocks;
- 202 custom sprites;
- 1163 single-byte hex edits;
- all on a :cozy: 2MB rom

This looks like it has the potential to become one of the viral hacks many people will talk about. All the screenshots give me a very good SMAS vibe and all the levels also look somewhat unique (what was a problem with the original SMB Trilogy imo).

Too bad that you didn't manage to get it done for c3, but I really can't wait to play it once its done! #smrpg{y}

Not long ago, the banana bamboo was damaged and couldn't get out so I can't help opening it or demonstrating. Because of a sudden error, I can't fix it, so I have to make it go away and think about it, and then do something about it. You have to wait a little longer to remember forever before you can solve everything.

A bummer indeed that you couldn't release the hack in this C3, but it's good to know that a release date for it is closer - since I've first had my eye on it I kept looking forward for its completion as I really like hacks that mostly use SMAS graphics (and the other ones from other games don't feel out of place in it!) while keeping some SMW elements that go well together. I've seen you post some level screenshots in the Discord server before and I'm sure this hack is going to turn out really fun to play! also please call me to be a tester

Fantastic work, all levels seem to be both visually appealing and fun to play. Shame you couldn't get it done on time, but it's certainly better than rushing out an untested full release. Looking forward to playing it!
