As with all the others that have come before, we're running two categories: one for foregrounds, and one for backgrounds.

I'll have some free time coming up towards Xmas so why not. I'll enter.

Are the entrants allowed to change the colors of the standard objects as long as they stay the same base color? For example, change the green used in the pipes to something more blue or hue-shifting the shading; it's still green, just a different shade of it.

I'm asking because being allowed to use only SMW's colors for those objects (pipes, water, coins, question blocks, etc.) might prove to be far too inconvenient for the entrants (like wasting slots with a different shade of yellow when you could just have modified and used the yellow used by the coins and the question blocks) and will probably stop good-looking tilesets from achieving their maximum potential (like if an entrant's palette has a strong mood and atmosphere to it that gets ruined by having to use the standard colors for the standard objects).

Manofer, the other thread is not for discussion.
Also, that's a silly complaint cause by that logic we would never be allowed to have non-LDC contests ever just because you can't draw.

There'll be another LDC soon.

As much as I would like to allow it, I'm going to have to answer with no to keep things as simple as possible. As for why, a lot of these rules have been decided from the beginning, including the palette restriction. Ignore this post, this was made before said discussion below.
In case you're not on the Discord and, as such, didn't catch wind of the announcement, fear not! After discussing matters with the staff team, the ruleset has gone through a minor revision which intends to address the palette editing issue. It is as follows:

• You may now change the palettes of original vanilla objects. Feel free to change the colors as long as everything still looks good [as long as the original vanilla objects are still perfectly recognizable, basically]. If your palettes look bad you may lose points.

Exceptions to this rule update:
• Status Bar colors are still not to be replaced
• Message Box text colors are still not to be replaced
• Player Palette is still not to be replaced

So, as it turns out, the above post is no longer valid. So go hog wild while still following the rules!

is it allowed to mount the BG with FG tiles?

Is FG and layer 3 allowed only?

As with all the others that have come before, we're running two categories: one for foregrounds, and one for backgrounds. You can submit both, and they shall be judged separately. You are free to include Layer 3 in your entry. We will allow graphical edits on Sprites. How these two will be judged are explained later on below.

Read the rules.
Will this be okay if my entry is submitted to the Graphics section after announcing the results? I don't think we can submit there before the deadline.
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

Oh boy. time to see if I can whip something up.
You're free to submit your entry after the closing date, no need to wait for judging results.
Not sure if it's a good idea, but I'm nearly done with my tileset. I need to make a good FG. I'm at nearly 50%.
You can compete in either the Foreground catagory, the Background catagory or try your hands at both. If you only want to make a background and not a foreground to go with it, or vice versa, then no problem. Both are scored separately.
if layer 2 is used as part of the FG (aka layer 2 level), would a layer 3 background be judged in the BG category?

i did layer 2 level for one of the exgfx contests but i forgot what happened
