Hey folks! This thread is for discussion and feedback about the recently started SMWCentral Podcast headed by myself, Ivy and Impetus. Dan was originally going to be a part of the show (He's in episodes 1 and 2) but felt like he wasn't a good fit for the podcast. So now we're usually planning to have a rotating fourth person on the podcast to help add some variety. We may even get some special guests on the show but we'll see what happens.

The podcast follows a simple format. We start with Intros before moving into Site News where we discuss things that have happened in the past week or events that are upcoming. Then we optionally have a Gaming segment where we talk about some of the games we've been playing lately. And finally we have out Main Segment, which is usually some sort of discussion related to SMW hacking or another event/season/something else going on around the time of recording.

Speaking of the Main Segment, we have some ideas already but I'd like to also ask you, our listeners, for topic ideas of things we can discuss in the podcast. For example, we've covered personal level design preferences in Episode 2 and spooky games and creepypastas in episode 3 because it was close to Halloween. So just give us some ideas for stuff to talk about and we'll see if we can make it a topic some time.

Episodes are supposed to come out every two weeks or so, though the exact date is sometimes up in the air depending on how quickly I'm able to edit and upload the whole thing. Update November 12, 2017: Episodes are now available in MP3 format in addition to their normal Youtube uploads for ease of listening on the go!

Here's to a happy listening!

Episodes List:
#1: The Pilot [Youtube] | [MP3]
#2: Level Design Episode [Youtube] | [MP3]
#3: Spooky Spaghetti, Creepy Spaghetti [Youtube] (feat. Eevee) | [MP3]
#4: Burn Down the Sandcastle [Youtube] (feat. Tyty/Teyla) | [MP3]
#5: Held Together With Hopes And Dreams [Youtube] (feat. Tyty/Teyla) | [MP3]

#7: C3 Power Panel Podcast
#8: CaffieCraft Revival (feat. Dan)
Talk about let's plays. Then let's plays about talk.
dont do that thats boring af lol

first thing you gotta evaluate is what you guys can actually bring to the podcast format that nobody else can. Like why tf should anybody care about a smwc podcast? They can get gaming news and opinions from literally any other person ever. They can hear about creepypastas and horror games on any other podcast ever. The level design episode, for example, is one that directly appeals to somebody like me, but I see no justification to listen to an episode about creepypastas (unless i like the host's chemistry and personalities, which

one thing that has to be done is there needs to be a visual cue to help identify who's actually talking. I clicked into the level design episode and it was 3 people talking over each other and i couldn't follow any of it. Also Imp needs a not shit mic ASAP because that stuff is distracting af. I'm not one for podcasts so i cant weigh in on the actual substance of the show because i dont have the patience to listen to a 1hr podcast unless i already know and like the personalities that are on it. So maybe somebody else can offer some advice on the actual content.

e: also we officially have way too many stickied threads
ask me if i give a f*ck...

a visual cue would require some sort of scripting which I don't think anyone here is capable of doing, but would certainly be nice if possible. Also imo podcasts are meant to be listened to in the background of doing other stuff. Nobody except the most die hard fans are expected to sit still and watch an entire blank video just for the sake of it

Please set up a gofundme for getting impetus a new mic. I legitimately wouldn't hesitate to donate like $2+ just so I can tolerate the audio quality (no offence to Impetus but please get a better one).
I'm in favour of the highlight thing. If you guys record this podcast on discord, then one way to achieve this is utilizing this (Voice Widget) in a creative manner. Someone will have to record the browser output of that URL and then send it to the editor. You could probably customize it further with custom CSS (Stylish or OBS Browser Source custom CSS?).

I've only listened to the first and third podcasts so far. Maybe it's just me but it feels like Impetus gets ignored sometimes, I'm not sure if it's because her mic quality is sub-standard and people don't understand what she's saying and it'd be too awkward to repeat herself all the time. Either way, decent desktop and/or headset mics are pretty cheap nowadays. Or you could overkill it like I did and get a blue snowball or some AT mic or something lmao. Or maybe it's some messed up windows setting which ruins the bitrate or whatever. Either way, definitely look for a solution. No offense but yeah!

Yeah I think that is the most common case. As you start listening to more podcasts, you'll just eventually *know* that a certain voice belongs to a certain someone.

It's still nice to hear our people's thoughts on certain topics. Because it has been done on other podcasts doesn't mean it shouldn't be done here also. Maybe this SMWC podcast is people's first podcast they ever started following, dunno. Personally, I quite enjoyed the SMWC podcasts I've listened to.

If you guys ever want to have a podcast featuring ASM stuff, you could count me in #ab{>_>} (but I'm not saying you *should* have one; I'm not sure how many people would be interested in listening to technical mumble-jumble)

That's all the feedback I have so far.
My blog. I could post stuff now and then

My Assembly for the SNES tutorial (it's actually finished now!)
I know, I'll make a news post when I get a new mic ;-;
We just recorded Episode 4 and it was a lot of fun. I'm hoping to get it edited and uploaded in the next couple days.

I'm pretty new to using Premiere, but I'll look around its features to see if there's some sort of "If sound is coming from X audio track, draw Y image on screen" and see if I can re-create something like discord's speaking notice. This may or may not make it into the next episode depending on if it's something I can do and then do easily.

And Ersanio, if we ever want to talk about ASM on an episode I'll definitely let you know and you can come on the show.
Episode #4: Burn Down the Sandcastle | [MP3]

Special guest Tyty a.k.a. Teyla joins us for a long and rambling podcast that was supposed to be about Let's Plays, but also ended up including our favorite Rejected Mosts ideas, a guest introduction, Impetus's jet engine PC, Ivy's inability to hand out a free Pokemon, "vigeo games" and more.

Episodes will return to being every two weeks now. Last week was an exception where the editing was delayed.
In case anyone wonders why an episode didn't go up despite supposedly returning to every two weeks, FPzero didn't have his usual recording setup due to thanksgiving u-u
I'm a sham user. #smw{T_T}
Episode #5: Held Together With Hopes And Dreams | [MP3]

We're back and we're late but that's not gonna stop us from having a good time. This episode, we talk about why SMW is a bad game, why SMW is a good game, and why SMW is a weird game.

Sorry about delays. It took us an extra week to record because of Thanksgiving and then another week for me to edit because of finals season.
I've been listening in and I'm quite enjoying what I am hearing so far.

I say that people bounce off each other well and there really is not much I'd say in terms of suggestions or recommendations.

The mic thingy with Impetus really is not the biggest of issues so I don't mind it.

Looking forward to the next one to see what else will be discussed.
I'll still donate 3-5$ to make the new mic come sooner

Episode #6: R.I.P. VLDC | [MP3]

Did you ever want to know about the history of VLDC from beginning to now? Well you're in luck because that's what we talked about for over an hour. Join us for a look back on VLDCs 1 through X as we talk about the good, the bad, and the future.

Stick around for a sneak peek of what the BLDC contest might be.
A bit unrelated, but I think it'd be a good idea to add closed captions to the YouTube videos because it might be hard for some to comprehend what y'all are saying (at least for me)

This actually takes an obscene amount of work (fpzero already does all the audio splicing, syncing, and any video editing), but I can definitely appreciate the value. I'm assuming the auto-generated ones don't work particularly well when we're all talking!

Episode #7: C3 Power Panel Podcast | [MP3 later maybe]

It's C3! For this episode of the podcast, we checked out the C3 subforum and the projects contained within, LIVE and in video format. As such, an MP3 of this episode probably wouldn't make much sense since it's heavily visual, but if people really want one I can provide it.
