What's happened with the results?
I fear that the VLDCX will suffer the same fate of SMWCP2 and SMWC island.

I realize nobody owes us anything and that the judges will be done when they're done. I do feel like the nature of this community is such that if I were to make a suggestion I'm going to get ripped apart/shot on sight. There's plenty of criticism and if it's constructive, I'll take it as such.

That being said, here goes: What about a central VLDC thread or page where the judges can update a table of progress that people can look at? Perhaps level judging can be only part of it; we've still got the Overworld and other technical stuff to wait on as well. Perhaps a quick at-a-glance visual would help ease work done by mods and ease frustration all around.

I feel like the thread constantly leaves most of us hanging in regards to the question "are we there yet?", which has already been asked multiple times. I feel that the big difference is that most people can come and just look at the first post of a thread or a special page showing progress, along with a warning like "Judges [or anyone else involved--hackers, etc... I don't really know] will update when they update. Don't ask for a release date. Don't ask for updates." or something to that effect and lock/close the thread.

I'd be willing to make some kind of mockup for such an idea but I am not really familiar with what all is involved with putting together a ROM like this, much less what is even worthy to report on. I'm just thinking of highly generalized stuff like "ASM 73% complete". Numbers shouldn't be expected to be accurate, It's just to give the user a ballpark range of completion.

I realize that how things are now aren't that bad. We'll get it when we get it. I and many others are anticipating the release of this thing, and we all will have to wait like adults (even though some of us are kids) and it'll eventually be released. I just wanted to put forth the idea along with the offer to help execute it.
It's a nice idea, but I'm pretty sure the judges already have a mutual table where they share their progress (and scores). I've always assumed that they dont make that information public because it would just make us feel worse if we actually knew how much work was left to do lol

but it's also a lot of work, so its understandable that its taking so long (especially with 2 judges starting late)

e: tho i will say its annoying when staff members and people in the know act like people in the community are being irrational when they're impatient. obviously some people need to chill out and just wait, but it's incredibly disrespectful to be rude to people that are simply curious because, to be fair, it's been about 9 months. I get that on the flip side its disrespectful of the community to demand answers they aren't entitled to by any means, but just because people ask for an update, you dont get the right to shut down and dismiss them so eagerly.
or maybe you do what do i know, i've mostly stayed out of this forum so idk the extent to which people have been nagging up to this point
ask me if i give a f*ck...

I apologize for sounding rude, but when there is nothing else I can say past "the judges aren't done" without revealing just how close they are, I don't really know how I can phrase that without shutting down.

I mean, even in the last post I only quoted my earlier answer because roberto literally asked the same question twice in a row.
Right, and since the ability to read seems hard to come by for some users I can understand the bluntness a little bit. I'm not asking the question a third time; I'm asking 1) what could be done to reduce the asking and 2) what could be done to answer *THE* question, which are really the same thing. I guess I'm assuming the question needs to be answered. Why is it important to hide judges' progress? Don't want to get people's hopes up? I mean, it could reasonably be stated with a disclaimer that nobody should set their expectations based on updates, but it's still nice to know.

As an aside, based on a few threads I've read, I feel like I'm required to walk on eggshells when I think about posting here. The tolerance for users who don't want to read the entire library of threads on these forums before posting seems to be ridiculously low. That being said, thanks for the cordial responses.
I'm going to drop this and say that progress on judging hasn't been massively different since the last update if I recall correctly. ASM shenanigans is difficult to start without the judges' results, and how the collab will actually be like is uncertain right now.
Not much else to say unfortunately besides that you could expect the results before Christmas, hopefully.
Here's what I gathered from reading the various scattered updates:

VLDCX is on it's way to getting done (transparency out of the way, not much was done the past few weeks. However, a quick talk with the judges shows some immediate promise in wrapping this boy up), perhaps we can talk about what you guys would like to see happen in the following months.

A minor update:

This isn't big enough to really warrant it's own new thread, so consider it a mini-update. As of right now, Lolyoshi has completed judging, Noivern has completed judging, and Koopster is like 6 levels away from finishing judging. Sinc-X and Rameau's Nephew are both in the triple digits as well.

Vitor Vilela will be taking care of all the scary ASM related things regarding this project, as Medic has stepped down.

I anticipate results won't take terribly long now (hopefully), and then we can go full grind putting this boy together. Thanks for the patience y'all.

Yep, I've finally finished judging!

So, here's what I got:

Lolyoshi - Done
Noivern - Done
Koopster - Done
Sinc-X - Past 100
Rameau's Nephew - Past 100

-That was about 2 months ago (September 2nd)
-Progress has been slow since
-It has been promised repeatedly that we are close to completion since those stats were put up (again, September 2nd)
-"Before Christmas" was the only hard date given (likely generous, given the nature of hard dates)

Make of that what you will.

Well, that's nice to hear. I've been waiting to find out who won and if my level gets a placement near what I'm hoping for.

...If anything I can say it's hopefully better than most first levels?:P

Not to mention the question I have... What's going on with the Overworld Ideas? Are the ideas being considered, or is the Overworld gonna be something else?

The OW is going to be a collaboration, so we can't start it until the results are out.

... Well, this is great. After finally watching Noivern's video of my level and finding out the custom forest music I supplied for the contest I used isn't in there, it has me worried about what all of those updates did to it.
Lesson learned? Don't release something into the public until after everything has been fixed that you can.
... Also should've made it a bit longer.
And to think before today I thought it'd get near 50.

I wouldn't worry, short levels have the upper hand this year, due to the encroachment of long levels via 1-up checkpoint's "checkpoint" discovery.

I saw the video, and yeah, it's a bit on the short side. But you could've done way worse. Personally, there's not much inherently wrong with it, as the worst thing I can think of is that it's bland. Some jumps are a bit awkward, but it's not a big deal. I think you'll do OK. (not top 50, but not world worst)

Don't worry about it at all. At least you didn't make Cloudtop Castle...
Hopefly it will get released in January 2018:).!!!!!!!
a final update for this thread:

there's good news and bad news. the good news will be posted elsewhere soon. take that as you will, it's not hard to understand.

the bad news is the elephant in the room that we've been dancing around for a few months. the collab.

the full 180+ level collab you were promised will not be happening. we weighed on things for many months now with this project, and we essentially came to the conclusion that we just do not have the resources to produce it in a timely manner, and we would rather just move on with future projects. vitor vilela was the leader of this collab when it began, but he dropped it when he left staff. medic later took charge of the asm for this project, but he too left. we don't have any asm lead to handle the complicated issues of this project (re: the sa-1 combining stuff, the custom asm for judge screens, etc), but beyond that we just dont have much interest. even if we did find the people who wanted to, it'd probably take us another year to make the two big maps, to insert all the levels, compose all the music, and not run contests during that time that would take away from producing the hack (aka what we ended up doing this year with no overworld contest or idol contest). we just decided we'd rather learn from this for our future events and put them towards better things.

we're sorry about that. we are open to the idea of doing a simpler best-of collab for vldcx, where it's instead just a collection of the top, say, 40-70 levels or something. we'd need people to help with this process, though, and it probably wouldn't be done until mid-next year.

or we can just do nothing. let vldcx results come out and move on and figure out how to handle our next vldc, whenever we have it (which, if you may not have caught onto by now, is not likely to be held next january).
I can't say I'm surprised...

I mean, if we can't get 180+ levels in a hack, either just split it in half, do the "top/best 70/100" thing but with no World X and move on. We can do a simple hack like the VLDC1 or VLDC7 collab.
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
Just wait, SMWCP2 will be cancelled too.

I mean considering that Vitor Veilia totally just ran off with the knowledge of how to create duel roms, I'm not surprised either to see it being canned/reworked. Though, I do have to wonder (other then it taking a year or two) why it can't just be two separate roms (one for the worst 90+, one for the best 90+) and World X or some other prize would be unlocked after completing the best half.

And I'll probably end up in the worst half for being another long 1F0 level, lol.
