Reign of Koopa (Name up for debate, why not suggest some?)

Standard

Reign of Koopa* is a hack designed with the idea that it would be similar to a real Super Mario game, in terms of level design.
I came up with the idea after playing a lot of Super Mario Maker and thinking "I wish more people would make real courses."

The story is the same as always. Princess Peach is having a party for Mario, she gets kidnapped, Mario goes to save her. Etc., etc.

*Please note that if someone comes up with a better name, I'll probably change this.
Hey. I really think you've got something here. The design of both your levels and your maps have an appealing, organic appearance, which goes a long way towards convincing me I won't get bored. I really dig the maps in particular, as I see Super Mario 3 and SMW elements and the interpretation is elegant and tasteful.

I'll look forward to seeing more progress. #smw{:TUP:}

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
UPDATE!!

Hey, sorry I haven't been updating as much as I probably should be.
I've been working on a few other things, yada yada generic excuse.

Anyway, screenshots. Some may be slightly outdated.

World 3-Castle - Hot Dry Desert Fort
I haven't gotten Mouser to work yet, because PIXI just hangs when I try to use it.

Also, a slight update to worlds 2 and 6

I hope you'll enjoy this when it eventually comes out.
The plant in the castle is a great idea! What is this used for? Decoration or maybe something that'll be used later in the level/game?

As for PIXI issue, idk the source of crashing. Maybe that has to do with system tasks?

Although the overworld looks overall great, it's weird that vanilla SMW events and decorations are used on some overworld submaps while others use completely chocolate stuff. It looks kinda inconsistent. There's also some cutoff on the night, cave and lava submaps and some weird rock palette on the forest submap. You might also look closer to the last submap, there are some perspective errors. Other than that, it's a great overworld!
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

The plant that's growing through this castle is used to climb to the top. I probably should have taken a screenshot of Mario on one of the leaves, in retrospect.
I know that a lot of people tend to dislike vertical levels, but I thought it was a cool idea.

Yeah, I was thinking about removing the chocolate tiles from the overworld, as I think it's inconsistent.

I think I see what you mean about the Lava and Night submaps having cutoff, but I don't see it on the Cave submap?
Would you mind pointing it out to me?

(Edit: never mind, I see it now.)
I'm currently in the middle of overhauling the overworld.

The general shape won't change, but I've added some more levels, so everything's gotta change to accommodate that.

All of that gross cutoff has been fixed (at least, I think), and I've changed the main section of the overworld to using edited vanilla tiles, instead of chocolate tiles.

Here's how it looks currently:
So, in case anybody was interested in this anymore, I have decided to cancel this project.

Basically, I ran into some problems and also out of ideas.

If you wanna play what I had up to this point, Here's the DL.

EDIT: I might be coming back to this, but for now it's abandoned. That said, I haven't turned my back on hacking completely just yet.

Also, if you wanna rip any of the graphics that I made, that haven't already been uploaded, go ahead.
That's unfortunate, because what you had made so far was pretty fun to play even there only being a few levels! I hope people are going to make good use of the graphics you made, especially for the World 3-Castle stuff.

Good luck with your future projects!
Whoa, you canceled this! Dude this is a really nice. Honestly I never noticed it, possibly because of the generic "New Super Mario Bros."
Once I saw title screen though, I decided I actually like the name, and for some reason it just fits.

I really hope you reconsider abandonment. This is a really nice hack.
If I do come back to this, which I've been considering, I need some questions answered.

Should I change the name?
And were the coins invisible when you played the "demo?"
EDIT: bruninhopz told me the coins are, in fact, invisible.
So, to amend my second question, does anybody know what might cause this?
Well, this probably isn't it, but are the act like settings correct and did the invisible coin get pasted over the real one?
Hey, look at that!

I just exported a .map16 file from a clean rom and now the coins are back.
I must've messed with something I shouldn't have.
Note to self: don't mess with invisible coins, or your life will suck.
I'm gonna do a bad and double post, but I've decided to not abandon this, though because I've since started another project, it'll probably be quite a while before this one gets another update.
That's honestly not too much of a good sign. You've made direction and got a path working on this, yet instead you choose to abandon it in favor of another project that you just started. I've seen enough of this to know how it works.

I'm going to suggest that you should abandon your new project, or inject it into this one, because you'll only end up working on one or the other. Very few people can finish just one project, let alone juggling two.

This is just advice, you're free to do as you want; but I would hope you do the wise thing and stick this one through to the end. Don't let a little hiccup discourage you from working.
Don't worry, I'm gonna put the new one on the shelf while I work on this one. I hardly have a direction to put the new one in, anyway.
Well, if you really want a new name, just drop the "new". I like the reign of the koopa part.
I'm glad that you didn't just drop this outright, because it definitely looks pretty solid so far! I'll give the "demo" a try as soon as possible so I can help give more detailed feedback.
As for the name: in my opinion, you should drop the "New Super Mario Bros." moniker entirely and change it to something like "Mario: Reign of the Koopa". It stays simple and true to the original name, while also keeping it from sounding like another one of those generic "Super Mario Bros." titles.

I also think this looks and feels better.
