Welcome to the thread of my new Kaizo-Hack called "INFERNVM",

Now that my old Hack, IUDICIUM TRIBUNALIS is accepted on the site I´ve started a new hack.

This project is still at its very beginning, so i have no idea how long this hack is going to be and how difficult this will eventually be. Though, I aim for light Kaizo this time.

The hack´s name also isn´t final. I just searched for some random latin stuff again. Yes this time my hack is going to be entirely latin. Even if no one will understand my levelnames or message-boxes i hope the level design is going to be enjoyable and creative at least.

Speaking of which: Before i get lost in preambles of a project, of which i don´t even know if I will be able to finish it (I mean it took me 1 and a half year to finish a 9-exit hack) I won´t make any promises at my current state. Perhaps i can finish it. Perhaps not. For now, I´ll just show you some screenshots of my first level. I doubt it will be the 1st level of the hack, but it´s definitely going to be a quite early one. it´s also the only one that I call finished right now. I´m working on multiple levels simultaneously so perhaps i can show you several other levels soon. Depends on how long it will take until i can get creative again and if I´m motivated to hack.

However, here are the screenshots now:

Looking at these screenshots for myself, I think I should add some decorations to the dirt, but I hope the level design you can see so far is fine >w<

As said, that's sadly all for now. My updates here probably won't be very frequent, since I usually work relatively slow, but I promise to show off all the levels, once I´ve finished them.

Anyway, please comment and give feedback!

Seems good so far. Be sure to apply that patch that makes spinjumping on bombs consistent, as that has always annoyed me.
Looks pretty interesting from the screen shots. I'd be interested to see how difficult it is. What difficulty are you aiming for?

Do you know if it's going to be a hack for speedrunners? Or maybe a hack where you have to use savestates? Or sth like Super Dram World 2, a hack with some setups where the chance you can parse them equals 50% but you can beat it without savestates?
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

This exists?? O_o
I wonder, why I´ve never heard of this one before. I´ve already patched my ROM to SA-1, but I´ll browse for it and try to implement it. The vanilla explosions are indeed frustrating.

Actually I don´t have a plan right now what kind of hack this is going to be. I mean there´s only 1 stage finished #tb{:p}

The only thing I can say currently is, that I plan to make this a rather long kaizo hack (perhaps 30-40 exits), but since I aim for a high level of creativity as well, this entirely depends on with how many ideas I can come up.

Again, thank you very much for your feedback :3
I´ll try to finish an other level this weekend. So stay tuned for new screenshots #tb{;)}

There are also some other minor things I can announce, that I´ve planned for this hack:
- Every stage shall revolve around its own gimmick
- Predominantly this is going to be a vanilla-hack
- Every stage is going to present a start-kaizo-trap
- Every stage is going to present a goal-kaizo-trap as well #tb{;)}
- Every stage is going to include a (more or less) difficult to reach moon

Kaizo light can range anywhere from korosu/banzai to Kaizo 3, is there another hack with similar difficulty you are aiming for?

Edit: btw I'm excited to see how this hack pans out #smw{:TUP:}

Aah, now I understand your question^^

To answer it: I aim for a hack that is a tad more difficult than Banzai Mario World. However since only 1 stage is finished so far I have no idea, if I can/will stick to this, but we will see as i create more stages #tb{:j}

That's pretty much the same question I asked. There are a few harder kaizo light hacks than Kaizo 3, like maybe Horrifying Mario World or Super Dram World 2.

Due to some technical difficulties finishing my next level delayed a bit >_>

It´s inspired by "JUMP" and "My little Puzzles 3". I guess it´s obvious what´s the gimmick here #tb{:DD}

Even if this is finished "per se" I´m not satisfied. I think some parts are still way too difficult and I´m looking forward to make several sections a tad easier. If you have any proposals feel free to share your thoughts #tb{:]}

Really digging the whole gimmick of avoiding every single keyhole.

I think you should sneak in a bit more action and place some more keyholes and enemies, mainly in the first 3 screenshots (if that doesn't screw up the sprite memory), while keeping it simpler at the same time!

Long time, no see...

Yeah it´s been a while. So enjoy this video, which shows that I still make progress, even if I just slowly progress.

Video

It´s a castle level. Its name means "abundance and poverty". As you will see its gimmick are powerups. You avoid them in the 1st room and you have to use them cleverly in the 2nd room. I don´t know in which world this castle will be. Depends on how difficult the other castles are going to be #tb{^V^}

I remastered the Key-stage at several parts. It´s more fair / less frustrating now and I tried to follow your advice and added more enemies here and there. Thanks for your tips #tb{:]}

Long time, no see... (again)

Another Video

It´s a semi-water level inspired by S.N.N.´s vldcx-entry "Wetsuit Columns". My level´s name means "magical water" (cause you can move the water by pressing L/R).

Yeah, that´s all for now again. Hope you enjoy! #tb{;)}

You have been evolving on your ending kaizo traps as of lately, so good job on that #tb{:D} The mushroom level is pretty good and simple, although there are some parts where a powerup supposed to be avoided could be simply replaced with munchers (like in that one bouncing koopa section with flowers), so I'd redesign that.

As for the latest level, I feel the first room is alright. I could feel the inspiration from SNN's entry lol. I'd reduce the waiting in the last room before the midpoint or just the timer, as the platform sinks way too slowly and that could be boring, especially if there are no obstacles beside the timer.
Also, remove the bubbles in the dropdown before the door in the previous room since you seem to not use them. Otherwise, nice work on both levels!

Thanks Katerpie for your feedback. I´ll definitely redesign both stages with the points you mentioned in mind. I didn´t recognise it myself, but you´re right, that both levels have some "weak" parts and I´ll do my best to make these more interesting, too #tb{:]}

I think i should announce, there´s a demo of this hack now.

Download it here.

Note: This isn´t the demo i´ve released for C3. There are some huge improvements (especially the retry-patch) and some adjustements of difficulty.

There are also videos of the levels included in the demo. You can watch them here:

CLAVIS CALAMITATIS
ITER PER TEMPUS
SERRA HISPANA

It's been about a year since i've posted in this thread. A year in which i've been continously working on this hack, even if barely anyone noticed. I'm glad to announce that this hack is making more and more progress (even if i'm working quite slowly).

The most noticable change is probably, that this hack isn't called LEGATVM ALBATI anymore, but INFERNVM. I mainly made this change, because the new name sounds a bit more threatening than the old one, plus "LEGATVM ALBATI" was too long to insert it to my title screen.

Apart from the new title there are also a bunch of new levels finished. I showed most of them in my C3 thread, but for anyone, who missed C3 it might be useful,if they appear here as well.

As you may also notice some of the levels are obviously inspired by other ones (the Yoshi-castle from ASMT or Gloomy's VLDCX Level for example). This hack is going to contain several of these allusions, despite the original levels i create. Some may argue i'm just copying others' ideas, personally i think i put enough own ideas into them. But it's up to you to decide, if you like this or not.

I also made a Playlist containing all my current uploads.

I just watched the last two levels and they are really nifty by the way.
First stage is actually creative and all but I'm under the impression it has too much waiting. Not much can be done with the bombs.

Second stage seems pretty identical to Gloomy's VLDCX entry, at least in structure, but at least it has some creativity flowing. Consider making the diagonal line guides the same color as the rest to make them easier to differentiate. And you can keep the shell from the beginning by simply tossing it to the switch instead of pulling off a shell jump.
A shame it's so short though :/

Long time no see...
Yes I've been silent for a very long time, but now I gotta make a big announcement:
After lots of editing, lots of testing, more editing, even more testing, [continue this cycle several times], I can finally announce a release date.
I plan to release my "Magnum Opus" in approximately 5 days.
If you haven't seen the few streamers who tested it, you can get a good impression from the following trailer (even if several scenes are slightly outdated already).
Enjoy~
