hell, there was a completely custom SMB1-styled Bowser fight (with custom GFX) in Kaizo 3, leaving no excuse for flunchers.
I do have a funny feeling that, by that point, Flunchers were just a joke even by the creator.

I'm on the fence when it comes to the Kaizo games, considering (aesthetically) they didn't age well at all, and the hacks were responsible for the whole "YouTube Hacks" era of rom hacking when it was still massively popular... but in terms of gameplay and the responsibility of making a completely new genre of game difficulty? I'd say that's an advantage it had against any other hack in this site. I'm just saying that if the mods are pushing for quality, professional looking games, then Kaizo Mario suffers in terms of being a completely positive inspiration considering how many people (including myself at one point) thought invisible blocks and flunchers was considered "good level design". If ANYTHING, the best Kaizo hacks out there to feature are the Banzai Mario World hacks, considering it understood it's source material and improved the formula over the Kaizo Mario Trilogy. Those hacks are better inspirations, and because of the visual eye-candy, they don't appear to just be fluncher-invisible block spam hacks with cutoff, thus not giving the wrong idea.

Ultimately though... +1 for Kaizo Mario Trilogy for it's saving grace for both gameplay and impact. Just remember why YouTube hacks existed, though.

+1 to Kaizo trilogy. Its fun to try and beat these without any savestates
For the reasons above, the final verdict is that the Kaizo Mario trilogy is now featured~

That is silly. I don't play kazio, but I still respect the amount of thought put into them. If anything they deserve more of a chance for feature.

Regarding the Super Dram World 2 nomination, these are some thoughts about this hack worth taking into consideration. DoDeChehedron is one of the best Kaizo speedrunners, and he wrote this pastebin to explain why he believes this is a bad hack for speedrunning, while still a very good hack in general. Despite he is only talking about speedrunning issues, he mentions a few sections in the hack that are ''unfair'', in the sense of being luck based (which is always something to avoid in my opinion). This might not be big enough to decline the nomination, but it's another factor to take into consideration, as I said earlier.
Kaizo 3's "Heaven" also has many 50% setups, but that didn't stop it from becoming featured.

How so? They have a big fanbase and allow people to be more creative with their designs. It's not like it isn't indicated by something either. I don't see your point.

Personal bias.
I honestly don't know why you bothered to tell that then. It's fine to not like Kaizo/Pit hacks, but unless you have a VERY good reason to hold them out of the featured section, I don't think we need that kind of information, especially if it is as vague as you first made it.
I agree, Kaizo should not be nominated. A lot of people here seem to enjoy Kaizo for some odd reason, but I challenge anyone to come up with counterpoints to my arguments.

1. Munchers - Muncher abuse basically amounts to the mass agricultural amalgamation of the chompy chomp type plants, but do you notice any water-cans lying around? Any fertilizer filling up levels? And most importantly, where are the luxurious sunbeams that descend upon our horticultural friends, bestowing them with the ability to transfer oxygen and water into glucose, a lethal compound that gives Munchers that dangerous touch? Exactly.

2. Cutoff - You just came back from an afternoon jog in the heat of the afternoon. You run into the house, heading straight for the fridge. A burst of cool air meets your heat filled self as you thrust open the fridge door, and beams of light scatter across the room as the gloriously cold drink compartment is exposed to the living room. You reach in and grab a particularly cold bottle of glistening spring water. With exuberant thirst, you tilt back and begin to guzzle the water, but alas! It's entirely empty! You take a closer look at the bottle and notice with shock that the entire half of the bottle is simply cut from existence, and the water inside has spilled all over the floor. "Pesky cutoff again" you mutter.

3. Palettes - see folks, there is something you must know about palettes. There's this thing called the 3 golden rules, which every good hacker follows. They are: 1. Always make your palettes desaturated, 2. Vanilla palettes suck, and 3. Gradients are always necessary. Unfortunately, Kaizo hacks rarely follow this steps, and as a result, must be instantly disqualified.

4. Creativity - unlike good, easy, simple hacks, with plenty of goombas, Kaizo hacks are the unfortunate victim of a horrible design tactic known as "creativity". It is a well known fact among all good hackers here on SMWC that creativity is ridiculous and must be squashed every time it attempts to appear. Whenever you see someone attempting to be "creative" or what not (disgusting, I know), simply come up with good excuses for their hack to be disqualified from SMWC. By pointing out major issues such as cutoff, palettes, lack of story, etc, we, the SMWC users, can finally work together to abolish creativity once and for all.

5. Story - speaking of story, Kaizo hacks are absolutely terrible at it. As I am sure we are all well aware of, hacks do not become "featured" here until they pass the editorial and publication phases, and their story is approved by a special board of SMWC users that critique how well the story line fits the plot of touhou. None of the Kaizo hacks created have passed this test to date. Surprise, surprise.

6. World Peas - another issue with Kaizo hacking in the community is with a user known as World Peas. A devious hacker, World Peas uses various vegetable-themed levels to trick players into enjoying Kaizo. Do not give into his illustrious scams. He is simply pretending to make Kaizo. If you actually dig a bit into his levels and check in Lunar Magic, you'll find that it's just a bunch of green springy sprites spammed all over a bad Donut Ghost House edit.

7. Kaizo - what does Kaizo itself mean anyway? Is it Japanese? Is it Swiss? Is it Morsel? I prefer my hack genres to be real words.
Kaizo means modified or edited in Japanese. Also simple A E S T H E T I C S won't stop a hack of being featured. Although there should be more kaizo: light hacks with custom palettes and music in the section.
EDIT: How is water not gonna spill already in the fridge?
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

I disagree with your comment Gbreeze, about vanilla palletes sucking, and needing gradients. I don't think there's anything wrong with the orignal game's aesthetic. There are no rules when it comes to artistic choices. there's guidelines you can follow that work, but that's not all there is. EDIT: i don't know if your post is sarcastic or not, Im not good at telling if it is.

I am 99.99% sure it was sarcastic.

Looks like we're going to have to revoke Gbreeze's shitposting licsence.

Since you only mentioned this specific point, I hope you don't agree with his other 6 points lol.

And yes, as you are wondering, it was sarcasm. :)
Mario's Keytastrophe: Rebirth Edition is now featured. It's an excellent puzzle hack that requires the player to think outside the box more often and gives some leeway. I think we can all agree that it should be more recognized overall.

And lastly, we also decided to feature Item Abuse 3 after a brief talk yesterday. It's objectively one of the greatest and entertaining pit hacks of all time, and never gets too boring or repetitive.

A new hack has been brought up for discussion:
Super Dram World 2 has been suggested before, and it's definitely a well crafted hack with a lot of clever ideas. It has some difficulty spike in the last few levels, but at least it's playable for people who don't usually play kaizo.

Please discuss if you agree or not with featuring this hack. Don't worry y'all that more hacks will be discussed in the next few days!

Worst hack I've ever played tbh.

Generally well designed levels, good variety in gimmicks, pleasant custom palettes on the OW and in several levels. Don´t see a reason against it.

+1 for super dram world 2

Despite being made with speedrunning in mind and all the framerule shitposting, it's still a great hack for a normal playthrough with lots of original ideas and pleasant vanilla aesthetics.
It's featured \o/

Also, another hack up for discussion:
Tsunami Island seems to be a well crafted hack from what I've (re)played of it. I'm yet to play more, but I'm kinda unsure about it since it has some borderline difficult sections here and there.
