Splatoon 2: The one that could've made it this far. (New Super Mario Splatfest! 🍄🌟)

I played Salmon Run with my girlfriend yesterday. I really love this new mode! Though it's really tough, especially when just two players. We barely managed to beat a single game on 5%, which is the lowest possible difficulty. Getting four players together should really make this an awesome mode. Unfortunately, it once again showed how horrible the Switch's ad-hoc connection is. I literally had to stand a meter away from my girlfriend's Switch so that we could play, and even then it would occasionally display "the connection is unstable".

The next Splatfest is coming soon, and the theme is a clash of condiments: Mayonnaise vs. Ketchup.

The Splatfest event times are:
8/4 (Fri) 9:00 p.m. PT – 8/5 (Sat) 9:00 p.m. PT

As a reminder, at the end of the event, the winning side will be determined by Popularity, Solo Win percentage, and Team Win percentage. And this Splatfest theme will be shared globally, though results will be tallied and shared region by region.

Don’t forget you can team up with friends in Splatfest, though Team Mode is a little different from what you may be used to. This mode requires four players (must be friends with someone from the same team who is in the Lobby) to join a private lobby before being matched up against another team of four.

But will players choose mayo or ketchup? Only you can decide! And if you can’t wait to show your support, you can go into the game later tonight to pick your team and/or submit some mayo or ketchup centric drawings. We do enjoy tuna fish sandwiches and potato salad here in the lab, but we’d also be lying if we said we didn’t have a few bottles of spicy ketchup in the fridge. Decisions, decisions..

Pick a side and discuss.

I picked Ketchup, as much as I would like to pretend I'm shooting jizz everywhere, I like red more, and I can pretend to be throwing blood everywhere during the splatfest.

Mayo and ketchup sounds kind of like a dumb splatfest theme, but it's probably an excuse to have fun ink colors that night.
Ketchup is probably better, but I don't think I could live without mayo either.

That was bullshit, 70% of my battles were against other ketchup teams. Separating solo and team battles is kind of weird, I didn't have 4 friends with the game, so I was unable to even try to make a difference? I think if it went by the same guidelines that splatoon1 did, ketchup would have just won.

Mayo vs. Ketchup (Europe)

Wondering how your condiment of choice fared in other regions? Our intel shows that this was a tightly-contested battle around the world.

While Team wins narrowly tipped Ketchup over the line in Japan, Mayo managed to hold onto a 2-1 win as the more popular choice. In Europe, Ketchup held onto the popular vote but just couldn’t squeeze through in Solo or Team wins.

Congrats Team Mayo on a global victory!

Apparently only MLG gods like mayonnaise.
*everything stops*
Yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation...
*cut to next post*
Well, that's really quite an overstatement, since in almost all of those cases, their win percentage is only 1 or 2% above that of team Ketchup, which is such a small percentage that it could be purely by chance. In fact, it's even very possible that team Ketchup had led most of the categories until just before the end, when team Mayonnaise surpassed it. If team Mayo's win percentage had been 75% or something like that, I would probably agree to that statement.

Been playing a ton of League Battle with my friends. Its a ton of fun. Only complaint so far are the communication errors we get after almost every match in League. Anyone else have this issue? I don't think its my internet since the issue affects 3/4 of us each time.
I'll make a layout eventually...
I was playing on Mayo, and from my perspective it was mostly blowouts for w/e reason (level 17 Aerospray player). I can't think of a single time I played on Shifty Station and Mayo didn't get destroyed, though on the rest of the stages it was pretty much a coin flip on who won for whatever reason.

I've been having connection issues maybe once every other time I play? It's annoying but not awful thankfully.

I cant even unlock the mode, I have a real hard time moving up. It's just like 50/50 with most of my matches, so I just kind of stay in place. Add in the fact that the rank goes back to C- once the mode switches and I'm just stuck. I'm almost at c+ in splat zones though! (seriously, I think I just need to play more, I usually just prefer to hop into a friends room in turf war)

I'm so bad in Tower mode, all it takes is a single asshole with a blaster to even come within 4 feet of me and I'm dead, I can't even hide behind the pole, I just die every single time. It's sad because I think that might be one of the funnest ranked modes otherwise. Fuck Blasters.
I've had few internet problems so far. Connection has been rather stable for me. Can't say the same about local multiplayer (ad-hoc), though. That's running like shit for me, and it does for pretty much every Switch game, even within 1 meter distance. Honestly, it might be a malfunctioning part at this point, though unlike with the Joy-Con connection, I never heard anything about a malfunctioning part in the Switch console itself causing bad connections. That might just be because people rarely play locally, though. I guess internet play is just way more prominent these days. At least we can technically use a LAN connection at home, but that also kinda sucks, since we can't easily be in the same room anymore.

I dunno, two of my nephews played salmon run locally. Oneon the TV and one on handheld in the same room and it seemed to run just fine. I didn't notice anything off.
So there might be a malfunctioning part in one of our Switchs, huh? That sucks. I really don't want to send it to Nintendo, especially since I expect them to just return it without doing anything.

It’s a superpowered Splatfest this week in Splatoon 2! Which team will reign supreme? Let’s take a look.

Team Flight gets to save a bunch of money on plane tickets and you never have to sit in traffic again! Invisibility has its perks too though. You’d make a pretty great spy, being able to listen in on secret conversations, and skipping lines would be a breeze!

Of course, there’s only one way to settle this argument, and that’s by inking up your opponents on the splattlefield this weekend! Splatfest kicks off Friday 9/1 at 9PM PT and ends Saturday 9/2 at 9PM PT.

May the best superpower team win!

For once I was on the winning team today, which is ironic, because I feel like I lost like 75% of my matches this time (no joke, my flight power went down to like 1500 - in ketchup vs mayo, I actually was between 1800 and 1900 most of the time). Since I made it to the highest rank, that's 24 snails for me. The splatfest shirt this time was also quite useful for me, since it had exactly the brand that I needed, allowing me to farm a couple of fragments I needed (since you can release them for only 2000 coins as opposed to 20000). Now I actually have 19 fragments of the ability I want and need only one more to build it for one of my helmets (at which point it will have three of it - one main and two subs, only one sub remaining). That will give me some good protection against enemy ink, which usually is the main reason I die (seriously - just a single drip of enemy ink under your feet and you get so ridiculously slow that it basically becomes impossible to dodge any incoming attack). Luckily, the teams were more balanced this time, so I didn't spent 75% of the time fighting my own mates.

I was going to pick flight, but i saw all my friends were picking invisibility, so I just picked that side instead since it would be more fun to play together. I ended up playing the whole splatfest with randoms, and I still had fun. I got 21 sea snails, which isn't even that much less than the winning side. (I could have sworn that in the first game you got almost double for winning) I can't even be that mad, it was a close splatfest.

But, did that many people really choose the invisibility side? I thought flight was going to be a landslide winner for sure.

…and this is all as we hold up the line and the cars started piling up behind us! We need to hurry up!
