Super Mario: Other World - dead

I've finally finished it.

Grape Ruins castle: (Currently unnamed)

This castle mainly consists of moving castle bricks and Thwomps, both of which haven't been seen since the first castle, Groven Fortress. But aside from that it's a pretty standard castle level.

Now, I just have to double check all of the levels to make sure there aren't any errors. At the time that I post this, there are 2 days left before C3, so I should hopefully have plenty of time to prepare a demo by then...and speaking of levels, most of the levels I've shown off have been revised and edited, so don't expect them all to be exactly the same as I've shown here although I suppose that goes without saying Most of the stages from the first demo have been changed as well.

I've started work on world 5!

Blueberry Skies submap

Blueberry Skies 1: Mushroom Heights

Red mushrooms are bouncy, and green mushrooms are scale platforms.

Blueberry Skies 2: Up

This level's gimmick is centered around Mandew's Balloon Glider sprite. Single balloons carry you down, and triple balloons carry you up.

Looks good, but imo the third screenshot of the first level lacks action. Maybr you have killed the enemies already, but maybe a Koopa or two could've worked. Otherwise I like this and will likely play the next demo.
This looks good, but the screenshots from the second to the fourth one look kinda bland. You should add more action. Also I really like the second level. I'm assuming the title (Up) is inspired by a Disney movie?

Yep.

So, I've been working on the main map...

I began working on this yesterday morning. Thoughts? Aside from the cutoff and lack of decoration, of course.

Looks pretty much like a Mario game to me. I'm okay with it.
So, the other day I got a message from a mod, and it was about my hack being removed. Basically, the tester didn't like it because it was too linear and the levels were too short and blah blah blah

But, this gave me a chance to change things that I've wanted to change for a while now, but was lazy to do so. So I've remade and added some new stuffs that I want to show. So consider this a revamp of this hack.

World 1
Pineapple Plains 3: Sandstone Stroll
Song that plays: MegaMari - Cirno

This replaces that boring beach level with the annoying orange sky.
Not much to say about it, other than it introduces Monty Moles and fish.

Pineapple Plains 4: Freshwater Forest
Song that plays: Yoshi Village

Based off of Springwater Swamp from Newer Wii, and replaces the forest stage with the secret exit. You're gonna see a lot of vines and floating platforms here.

Pineapple Plains 5: Piranha Plant Bay
Song that plays: Little Nemo - Mushroom Forest

This stage is a remake of Boardwalk Breeze. It still uses the wooden platforms like the previous version did, except there are Piranha Plants and spiked balls this time.

And now, for the introduction of a new world! Er, kinda. Desert worlds have always been my least favorite world theme. They're really generic and there aren't that many ways to make them interesting. So, I decided to go with another world theme:

Cave! And that's totally not just an edited version of the old desert map, conveniently edited to look more cave-like. But I can't just introduce a new world without showing a level or two, can I?

World 2
Rock Candy Cave 1: Toxic Tunnel
Song that plays: Funky Boo

Pretty much a generic cave level, but hey, purple!

Rock Candy Cave 2: Crystal Shard Shaft
Song that plays: VLDC7 - Cave Map

I'm working on this level as we speak. It's going for that 'abandoned mine' theme, am I'm quite proud of it so far.

And since I've finally gotten Asar to work, I've been going nuts with the patches and applied a lot of them, like wall kicking and better powerdown.

I really like the palettes of "Pineapple Plains 3: Sandstone Stroll" and "Pineapple Plains 4: Freshwater Forest". Their gameplay Looks at least decent, too.

Maybe you want to add a HDMA-effect to the sky of "Pineapple Plains 5: Piranha Plant Bay" as you did in "Pineapple Plains 3: Sandstone Stroll", too. The plain purple looks quite boring. Adding Clouds, mountains or other background-decorations could help as well.

The palettes in "Rock Candy Cave 1: Toxic Tunnel" and "Rock Candy Cave 2: Crystal Shard Shaft" look very monochromatic though. The "Crystal Shard Shaft" has at least some wooden pillars and the mist Layer 3, that make it at least a bit more varied, but your "Toxic Tunnel" is basicially not more than plain purple. Even if this is supposed to be toxic, try to vary the colours at least a bit. Making the ground-tiles grey and only the lava purple for example. This is only a suggestion. Feel free to come up with an own well-looking idea, but compared to your World 1 Levels this stage looks (graphically) very boring. Gameplay seems to be fine in world 2 as i can see in your screenshots that it is possible to go up and down here and there and explore a bit.

Sandstone Stroll
You made the cloud FG look like a sand and it's nice to me!

Freshwater Forest
I like the level and the palettes. Particularly the crystal water and layer 3 clouds look good.

Piranha Plant Bay
As Sariel said, HDMA gradient would look nice there, too. Aside of that, I like the palettes.

Toxic Tunnel and Crystal Shard Shaft
Both levels need more contrasting colors so it looks better for an eye. Toxic Tunnel looks kinda boring compared to Crystal Shard Shaft because the first one has a little to no decoration and the latter has wooden pillars and layer 3 mist. Other than that, they look great!

Does this look any better? Or does it still need more color?

The Buzzy Beetles actually have the wrong palette, but I get why you would do it because it does fit the level. For the rest, I don't see a problem with it.
Better? Definitely!

Good? Well, I´m not an expert when it comes to aesthetics, but i guess, to darken the Background a bit could even improve the current result. At the moment the FG and the BG blend a bit into each other, so I´d darken the BG to create a better contrast and even a bit more variation.

Definitely looks way better than previously. You can either make the background or foreground a tad bit darken so the colors won't blend this much and the contrast will be bigger.

Nothing to show this time but two submaps:

I've edited the cave map slightly. Nothing too special.

This is an entirely new submap and replaces the Abstract map. Thoughts? I'm probably gonna change the girders sticking out of the water because they look pretty bad right now.
