How long a hack should be?

Well, around the site we see hacks that have a huge number of exits and playtime while some others only have 7 or 8 exits.
For you whats your favorite gameplay time in a hack? do you like huge hacks with 120 or mini-hacks with 8 or 9 exits?
Check out my profile to see a list of SMW Hacks I made and where to find the latest and best version of them.
Thanks for playing and have fun!

I like medium-sized hacks (so about 30 to 60 exits) most, but pure SMW-like hacks can't be long enough if they're fun.
For me, I feel that long hacks are actually better for me to play, since I enjoy a long adventure WAY more than 7, 8 or even 40 exits in a hack, tho I have stopped playing hacks a long time ago, so what do I know. lol

It depends on the difficulty. Kaizo: Hard should only be around 5-9 exits, while easy should be around 96-120.

Yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation...

I'd like to vouch the opposite. Hard kaizo hacks shouldn't necessarily contain only 10 exits and easy hacks even more than that, it just depends on the amount of ideas you can think off the top of your head. There's no set limit for that, at least not if you can think of clever ideas and gain enough motivation and inspiration.

I don't like short hacks as much, all things being equal. If it's really good, I want as much as I can get.

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
it can be any length if it doesn't feel rushed or like it drags on
Really, it should be as long as you feel it needs to be. If you're trying to tell a story, you make it as long as you need to, to properly tell the story and make the player feel like they're smoothly progressing through it, not too fast or too slow.

If you're simply making a hack to make levels, again, make it as long as you feel you want to. After all, it's just levels right? But maybe you're aiming for a Bowser-like hack, where you have to save the princess? Well, three worlds would be too short, but 12 would be too long. It all depends on how you feel your hack is progressing and whether it is worth making long or not.
as long as the creator wants it to be. I'd rater play short hack with well designed levels, ideas and gimmicks than overly long hack which is filled with filter, bad/boring levels and padding just for sake of making long hack/having billion exits.
I'm currently making a hack with an even 100 exits. I do this so that when the player saves their game and resets the emulator, they will see exactly what percentage of the game they have completed. The number of exits found equals the percentage of the game completed. Finding all 100 exits results in 100% completion.
Two Worlds
ask me if i give a f*ck...
Check how many inches you are, and make that the amount of worlds you should have.
I only play hacks that have between 12 and 14 world personally
as long as gd's hacks but with the amount of worlds divided by 10

Just keep going until you run out of ideas, or until the hack has fulfilled its purpose. If you run out of ideas, then stop making levels.

Setting out to create a 96 exit hack, and running out of ideas after exit 20? Then make the hack shorter.

in general any length is acceptable as long as the hack doesn´t get too repetitive with its ideas.

Also consider the harder the hack´s difficulty is, the faster it´s going to feel exhausting to play, if the previous circumstance isn´t complied.

3-level hacks are too short while hacks with 100 exits are long (for me, at least).
I think it should be between 40 and 90 exits if it's fun.
I generally prefer hacks that are 40-100 exits long, but honestly it really comes to down to the enjoyability of the hack itself.
