Lolyoshi beat that level in one try. Not kaizo. #lm{owev1}

Lol I forgot about that :O

I guess the only level we have left to disqualify is
Bet you thought there was gonna be some snarky, funny joke in here. Nah, there isn't. I really can't think of a level that could be dq'd tbh. Oh well. Thanks for clicking this though. While we're at it, please like and subscribe, and don't forget to leave a comment below on what forum I should leave a garbage post on next.

Fourthly, we will not be remixing old songs for VLDC this year. Levels that used SMW Music will continue to use SMW Music in the collab hack. We will be composing new songs for the overworld though, and we hope our various composers on the site will come and help us out during that time. More information on this will be shared at a later point when we are ready to begin this process.

That should answer your question, yeah? Very few levels used VLDC remixes during submission, so you won't be spammed with them this time. Instead, hope you enjoy vanilla SMW music #smw{:TUP:}

Also, to start the green orb debate before it happens...
If so called "kaizo" levels like snakes and ladders and swissotel get thrown out, than I will seriously be dissapointed in the vldcx final collab. And I highly doubt that idol wants to throw out these levels either. I was thinking more like marioworld's level as an actual kaizo level.

They'll be "Very Hard" I'd assume. There'll be a visible difficulty rating for every level, so if someone can't beat this kind of level or doesn't have the patience to then they'll be forewarned enough.
From what I've seen the limit really is actual Kaizo.

Thirdly, there has been some talk about the Overworld Contest this year, how it's gonna be handled, and when it will be. There will not be an Overworld Contest this year. Last year, the self-described "Squadmap" created by Code of the Dragon didn't even finish being made in the time limit. This year, there will be twice the amount of map to fill potentially, since we're using two whole roms worth of map space. This includes having two big maps, along with however many submaps we decide to fill. This would not be feasible in a contest, as it is simply just too much work to do. As such, the overworld will be handled in a collaborative manner. Stay tuned for more info on this at a later point!

RIP VLDC. it was good while it lasted.

so are we replacing it with a different kind of vanilla contest? or what does the staff have planned to replace VLDC? i am legitimately curious

There haven't even been any proposals yet for vldc11 but prepare for things to get controversial.

I have noticed an interesting trend. It seems like there's a movement for simplicity, which is nice. I think a lot of people are exhausted and tired of vldcx and how insanely ambitious it was. Honestly, it feels a lot more lighthearted and fun to design for OLDC. However, I still think that when next year does roll around, most of us will be eager to design our vldc11 levels.

I think it's also a bit exhausting looking at the sheer volume of entries, versus the volume of entries that are worth playing... and realizing that the difference is insane.

OLDC was different because there was no pressure, and as a result, not many people went "all out" like in vldcx. 180 "all out" entries, where the actual quality overall is quite low, is exhuasting to play.

True words Gbreeze. It´s indeed an incredible amount of labour you have to invest to design a well-ranking VLDC-Level. Also the labour the judges have to write their reviews must be immense, too (and also the pressure that everything must be reasonable and nobody discriminated/preferred)

Perhaps in vldc11 every entry not passing a certain limit of quality should just be instantly DQed. But that´s just me thinking radical, lol. There´d also no absolotely acknowledged instance who had the right to DQ someone´s entry instantly, so this just won´t happen. But this would be at least one solution for increasing the VLDC´s level design quality again. Feel free to disagree vehemently #tb{;)}

It surely gonna be an interesting thing how to manage future vldcs

Honestly if you just make the rules more strict, less people will enter. We've seen this with VLDCs in the past.

Though I also wonder how much of it is due to wanting to be in the collab over wanting to actually design a level and win the contest.
At this point I don't think we can really stop VLDC from staying this big.
Neither are there plans to force it to be smaller or anything, we'll just change up our judging process to accomodate for the fact that we can't expect multiple people to play and judge hundreds of SMW levels, and start cutting corners with the collaboration process starting with VLDC11. X is gonna stay as ambitious as it always was for now.

Re: no new level theme remixes

We argued that since level music is being considered while judging, we would not replace level music for the collab because then any level with changed music is no longer what the judges played.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Probably more than some entrants would like to admit, knowing past trends.

people see it as a good excuse to try lunar magic for the first time, which is somewhat annoying but tolerable
ask me if i give a f*ck...
an uninteresting level need not be disqualified. It should just not be in the collab.

This does two things:

1. players won't get bored playing the collaboration
2. some people who would have made boring entries would try to make something more interesting, which makes the job easier for the judges as well
I'll join along and make some music! But Idk how to convert midi to SMW format

IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER?

It's not all bad though. VLDC is a good way of getting people into the SMW hacking scene.

Hi.
I'm very sad to hear the levels that used the original music will stay that way without using any remixes, but I'm NOT sad to hear there won't be an Overworld Contest. Ever since what happened in VLDC9, we've outgrown those, and seeing how huge this contest has grown, we needed a different approach for the maps. I hope the maps are great, too! Show us progress as you go on with them, even if judging hasn't ended yet!
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
The maps can't be started until judging is done because we will not know which levels will end up in which ROM and which worlds will be in which ROM due to that.
Also it will be mostly public, so you'll be able to just check in if you're curious but don't feel like participating.
