i was thinking about the ideas that were floated around for the world 9 boss (RIP) and coincidentally i was also listening to drakengard 3's final battle song and i had a epiphany. a sudden rush of inspiration and determination. i really can't ignore it

it's basically magi's idea, but more fleshed out. since you are in the dreamer's world, it makes no sense that you're able to attack her manifestations. so you can't actually hurt her or her manifestations (but there is a way)

in terms of how the battle plays out, i was thinking of something like tanasinn, where the 5 different emotions have their own health bars. except there is the intermediary form where it's just the dreamer in the bg. during this time she might throw enemies or health

regarding the dreamer: she's in the bg, asleep (not tied up or anything)

regarding her manifestations: they are made in her image, are large but featureless, and yeah basically invincible. you can't hit them, but they have a health bar. hmm... really makes you think #smw{o_O?}

once the 5 manifestations are defeated, the dreamer goes into a 6th state: fear. fear of death or the dream ending or something idk. but again, you can't really do anything, so it's basically OBJECTIVE: SURVIVE until she ends herself

magi mentioned the BG degrading over time, and i believe that'll fit this very well (especially going into fear)

for music, i was thinking something along the lines of the song i linked. and yeah spoilers: i was partly inspired by that boss fight

"Ladida, we aren't doing a W9 boss. Why did you even make this thread? Goodbye" *closes thread*: I will code the boss and do the graphics. if no one is willing to do the music, then i'll go ahead and do that too. i am that determined. whether you guys end up implementing the boss or not, i dont really care. im coding it. end of story

but not end of thread. comments? this really wouldn't take more than a month (work allowing), and i doubt the project would be released by then
That's pretty brave of you. I wasn't too keen on the fact W9 was going without a proper climax, so yeah, I really hope this gets somewhere.
Same here. While I understood the reasons behind cutting this boss, I found its disappearance quite disappointing. I want to say to say that I support this wholly, and hope your determination will revitalise the project as a whole. Good luck ! #ab{:D}
Wow, that's really cool! Glad to see we finally found someone willing to do the Dreamer boss. I'm not sure if I got the idea fully, though, I do have a question to ask before I say anything else: Does this relate to the normal level itself, where the level is the final boss with the Dreamer in the background, or does this come after the "Anger" emotion phase, where we go down the line of Happiness, Mischief, Perplex, Sadness/Depression, and then Anger/Fury, then finally Fear? Clarification on what would be changed in the level and how exactly it works would be nice so a few of us can get the picture clearly.

I could also help with a bit of the graphics, if necessary, though I'm not really good at sprites, so just a fair warning.
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
First off, Ladida, I'd like to welcome you back to the forums, hope you plan to stick around for a while.

Otherwise, I like the sounds of what you have in mind, do remember to keep the boss varied, yet simple though. I'm not sure how much space there is in the base rom, but it might not be much, and remember with all the ASM implemented, something could break. Just keep these two things in mind and you'll be just fine.

i was under the impression that the boss was an isolated event (like a standard boss). if it's tied to a level... well, i dont know how to feel about that. kills my plans, definitely

if you guys arent dicks to me like you have been, then maybe. though ultimately no one really cares if i'm not here, so there's that. but thanks anyways

if the credits fit, then the boss should fit. i dont mind gutting the credits to make room either, considering they've already been neutered

Well, Level 13B is pretty much, for the most part, done. It is kind of anti-climatic at the moment, though. Check out the level in the BaseROM if you wish, though do beware it will be very glitchy, and cannot be completed normally.

However, if you feel that your Dreamer Boss won't work unless the entire level is scrapped and just replaced with your idea, we may have to remove a few sprites completely from the BaseROM, and a few graphics too. Not necessarily a bad thing though. Yes, the designers of each emotional section (2dareduck, Rameau's Nephew, Alessio/Dinomar, TomPhanto, and Frost) may be upset to see their level was removed to make room for the Dreamer boss, but we may have to make that sacrifice to give you more space to fit the Dreamer boss in, and to go through with your idea.

It's up to you, Ladida. What are we gonna do? Are we gonna keep the original level designs for the level in for each segment? Perhaps change the levels to satisfy both you and the developers (possibly)? Or will we have to redo the entire level entirely?

Glad I was never dick to you, because I can you're speaking in general terms. The community hasn't changed much since you left, but I'm pretty certain that you'll be fine. Though I have noticed there are niches so...

Anyways, if you plan to work on the boss, just post updates every now and again, let us know what's going on. And hopefully we can get this collaboration off the back burner and down the slide of success... or at least finished.

no, it's not. it's up to the level designers (as they outnumber me) and the project manager.***

as long as the boss is meant to take place in a single, separate room, and not "during" a level like i'm being led to believe, then my idea should work fine. i honestly have no idea what 13B is or how it works; all i have on hand is magi's old idea, which doesn't mention involving a level/levels. i simply imagined the boss fight would occur at the end of level 13B (much like a boss fight occurs at the end of a castle level in a standard mario game)

*** the boss will be made either way. i just dont (shouldnt) control whether it gets inserted
Okay, thanks for the clarification. That's all I needed to know. Good luck, Ladida. We're counting on you to code this boss. #smw{:TUP:}

As far as I know Ladida, the level was possibly canned due to the lack of a boss, so it's pretty much fair game; and if the level isn't, changes are being made across the mod as a whole, so changing this level to fit what you're working with should be a no-complaints-allowed situation.
The Dreamer is still a thing after all this time? I'm glad my character is still alive :´)

#smw{:TUP:}

i have concept stuff done already but i'd rather post progress once stuff is working in a rom
I've been put on as padding in case a zombie release happens to fix it up. So no matter how this project ends up it'll be finished #tb{:)}
the only burning question I have is when will this be finished.
it's been over 2 years since the last base rom release.
I mean being realistic the "this will be done in 1 month" self-imposed deadline was unrealistic to begin with because it didn't consider in any irl caused delays/demotivation/technical issues. While some progress would be indeed cool, you will have to do with the good old wait for it.

When people (including you if you want it to get done faster!) put the work to finish it into it.
From what I saw, HuFlungDu and FirePhoenix actually did some work literally today (I think FP fixed some of the issues listed on the github issue tracker?), so it might incidentally move forward some in the near future.

I've said this a few times before and nothing happened, but those were based on promises that "things would definitely happen by July (then August (then September))", whereas this one is based on me seeing people actually do things just today.

That's not actually accurate. Since the git was created, we have fixed ~70 issues, and most of those were not done today. Difference is that it's kinda hard to see the fixed issues when the pull requests don't get merged and we don't post anything in the forums. Also because the issues disappear in the default view when they are merged.

We closed these three issues today.

But yeah, we made the repo public, so if you want it done faster, help fix stuff. There's a readme that tells you how to contribute, and I'm almost always available to help with get stuff (can't work on SMW stuff at work, but I can help with git issues). The two people mostly working on it have a tendency to be pretty busy, so work is going to be sporadic if it's just us.
Yeah HuFlungDu carefully walked me through the process of working with the repo and we were able to close some issues related to my World 7 level. Honestly, a lot of issues appear to be things with the level design themselves, things that could probably be fixed pretty easily as long as people know how to properly make edits and work the repo.
I skimmed through the rom and there's a bunch of things I could probably still do, so I hope to continue helping out in minor ways when possible.
