My Mode 0 guide.

My Discord server. It has a lot of archived ASM stuff, so check that out!

OMG! So many hard levels submitted on the last day. That's really scary.

Flan. entry - so you missed KLDC and decided to submit your level here? Very clever idea.

Okay, this is probably an unnessecary/dumb question, but I want to make sure: We can place porcu-puffers in the air, since they are water sprites, right?

Ive answered this quite well. Porcus are technically fish yes, but they exhibit completely new behavior when placed outside of water (and on top of that they are incredibly janky in general, which the player is only made more aware of when they suddenly have to deal with them on another axis). It's better to avoid this.

Also, there was an argument made that the normal fish-type sprites (eg blurps and co) should've been banned from the getgo because Nintendo did literally think about fish-out-of-water scenarios for cheep cheeps (they flop) and as such it's easy to come to the conclusion that blurps not doing so is very much unintended behavior, not just unintended scenery. But that'll be something to keep in mind for OLDC2 if that should happen, they're just fine in this one.
Your layout has been removed.

imo the standard blippers are allowed because they still follow their natural behavior: swim forward horizontally. Porcu-puffers, on the other hand, slowly descend in a quite unnatural fashion. Maybe if you use it wisely enough the judges won't take off points, but better not to risk it.

Thanks for the responses. It's kinda what I feared, but alas. I've removed the porcu-puffers from my level and changed the room.
But blurps out of water are allowed? This is kind of a shame, because honestly the puffa room was by far the best...
I used the Underground 3 tileset for mine, which I hope is okay.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
That puffer room was my favorite as well. I think for vldc11 Blue Leaf, you should make a level revolving around water sprites (the urchins are very versatile and fun to use, and with your ability to judge player movement and action in design, I think urchins would work well similar to grinders). I was actually thinking about making a setup with urchins or puffers, but the spin jump is taken away (by using invisi yoshi ft style)

I think I've been so hack-ified that urchins out of water look completely 100% normal to me, and I forgot that water sprites weren't supposed to be out of water until this contest lol.
finally updated the level, now I'm definetly ready to get 11th place.

afaik you're allowed to use any permutation of built-in tilesets, spritesets, layer 2 map16 layouts etc. as long as it doesn't appear glitchy or use unintended sprite behaviors.

I got to admit I'm surprised we got more entries than the 8th VLDC.
I hope I win

Remind me to not apply for judging anymore. I'm happy I didn't get picked because this contest is way bigger than expected, lol. Anyway, i've heard stories of overly annoying and Kaizo-like levels, so that makes me wonder if I have a shot for a price. I hope so of course.

I'd say no, because your level is a rather safe romp without anything that makes it stand out. We'll see what the results bring us, though!
Everyone hates water levels, sign me up for last place.

I don't
I hate water levels so much, but I've decided to make one for this contest anyway. #tb{:p}

Good not everyone then hates them.
I don't dislike them either once they are used in a really creative way or if you can swim in a speedy fashion. Otherwise it's too slow and boring really.
