Not at all. I love the idea as well. I find the VLDC too lenient.

Can we use the unused bouncing turnblock? I know its bounce sprite is glitched, but it could be useful. :-)

I, uh, used that thing in my regular VLDC entry unmodified. so if you're willing to take the risk, I'd wager it's no worse than negative 1 point. The default state doesn't appear glitched.

It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the OP but iirc the consensus was to allow unused objects

Is changing the overworld level tiles to get to the level easier allowed? Example: Change level 105's level tile to level 2 or something like that.

yes
Overworld isn't judged so I wouldn't have thought that matters.

good luck tbh

and yeah this contest is a lot more fun to design for because there's a lot less pressure attached. Instead of having to come up with the most wild/memorable/interesting/unique gimmicks or tricks to give your level an advantage, all you really have to do is focus on the level design and making it fun that way.
For me at least

Another question, will the compilation have the counterbreak patches? Or do I just have to create powerup filter manually?

I can't speak for the organizers, but VLDC had it, so it's very likely this one will use it as well.

I was wondering if doing something like this to have more vertical space in a forest level would be okay. It would technically not break any of the rules but I'm not sure if it's in the spirit of the contest.

Yeah, it's allowed.
Also please use this thread for any question regarding the contest. I removed the post in the other thread.

Yeah sorry, I must have overlooked that.
Will it become a collab hack like the VLDC ones? #wario{-_-?}

Not only that, but like with the VLDCs, this will have its own compilation! Nothing too fancy but still worth playing.

im struggling to come up with ideas atm. I think I'm going to play the Star/Special worlds to get an idea for the kind of difficulty those levels had and then try to re-introduce an idea from the early game in a harder context. I really struggle with SMW's idea of mid-game difficulty, so I'd rather go straight to the hardest levels for inspiration.

No, UberASM won't even be considered to be allowed if that's what you mean.
But Erikie, how else are we gonna get our 32mb ROM working? UberASM is the only way!
Hi! In the level I'm making, there's an interactable layer 2, along with no natural layer 2 scroll and sprites that move the second layer as well. Does that count against the 'no unintended behaviour' rule?

Something like an elevator? That's a really good question. By definition I'd consider that unintentional, but idk what the actual verdict is

Well, what I did isn't anywhere close to being an elevator...
Basically, there's a section of floor that follows you through the level.
I hope it's not against the rules, because I think it's kinda neat!
Thank you for telling me, I wanted to make sure.
