Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (+switch core games confirmed)

A new Pokemon Direct has been announced and will air tomorrow. Link.

Place your bets: will the new game be on 3DS or Switch?
Or both??
Will it be Stars or a straight skip to Gen 8?

I don't know how they plan on supplying the Switch if a new Pokemon game on Switch is announced. In Japan, they're doing lotteries in order to get a chance of buying one.
This would most likely be the second to last one on 3DS. They can't skip over to a console that has not settled in well just yet. They have to reprogam a lot of things too. The DS also had this, with two Pokémon titles released with the 3DS already out. I would be suprised and dissapointed if it weren't the case because of my lack of a Switch.
There's a rumored leak of Pokémon "Stars". Regardless though, I'm thinking it will be the third version of Gen VII.

I do agree it would be surprising to see a Pokemon game out so soon on Switch considering what happened with the DS games, but don't count out the possibility. GameFreak has been quite unpredictable these past generations.

Also, the Switch has been labeled as "very easy to port to" by many developers, GameFreak are also part of Nintendo so they could've had earlier access to the hardware. After all, Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 were ported rather soon. The only downside of having a port would be the upscaled graphics (which will result in very pixel-y textures from 3DS to Switch).
Why the hell is the speculated name of this possible third Gen 7 game "Pokémon Stars" when a star is actually a sun? It would basically be the same as Pokémon Sun or at least be called "Pokémon Suns".

...Okay, that's enough spouting bullcrap for tonight.

and whats the deal with airline food (laugh track, bass tab)

I was doubtful of Stars at first, but after seeing the Gladion concept art - which is ridiculously similar to the third level starter concept art sheets from the S/M leaks - I'm honestly sorta 50/50 on the 4chan post being real or not. I won't jump to any conclusions tho.

If it is an S2/M2 and not just a generic updated third version ill be DTP (Down to Poké)

I can't believe people want another gen 1 remake, like there's a reason they got ported to the 3DS VC in the first place.
A Sinnoh remake would be nice though, so long as they at least give themselves extra dev time so as to not remove stuff like the Battle Frontier and what not (like what happened with ORAS).

I don't even think that's true. I often read people calling GameFreak second party or even first party developers of Nintendo, but that doesn't make much in my opinion. In 2015, for example, they released a game called Tembo the Badass Elephant - on PS4, Xbox One and PC. I'm pretty sure they're just a third party developer with close ties to Nintendo thanks to Pokemon.

Anyways, I'm pretty much expecting a Pokemon game on Switch, yeah. The Switch supply to meet the demands may not be quite there yet, but a new Pokemon game, if it's coming at all, probably won't be there before fall this year, anyways. That's still quite some time to hopefully catch up with supplies.

It's just that Pokemon is a Nintendo exclusive, but it's also their most famous game series. And they work on Pokemon most of time.
Which is most likely what lead people to think that Nintendo and Game Freak are part of each other.

Anyway, I really wish for another Mystery Dungeon.
A good one, I really like that series. The DS ones were my favorites.

And I'm really unsure about Pokemon Stars, or whatever it is.

I just don't think it will happen. Maybe it will, but if it does, it will be on 3DS probably.

For these reasons:

-They never changed consoles mid-gen:
Gen 1 - Game Boy
Gen 2 - Game Boy Color
Gen 3 - Game Boy Advance
Gen 4 - DS
Gen 5 - DS
Gen 6 - 3DS
Gen 7 - 3DS

If it's part of Gen 7, then it's probably 3DS. And it it's on Switch, then it will most likely be Gen 8.

But of course, that could be an exception, I heard the 3DS and New 3DS can barely handle Sun and Moon, but I don't know if it's true.

-They didn't do a 3rd version of a Pokemon game since Platinum:
Pokemon Red and Green -> Pokemon Blue (& Yellow but that's not an upgrade at all)
Pokemon Gold and Silver -> Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire -> Pokemon Emerald
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl -> Pokemon Platinum
Pokemon Black and White -> Expecting Pokemon Gray? Here's Black and White 2 instead!
Pokemon X and Y -> Expecting Pokemon Z? Here's Sun and Moon instead!!

So I don't expect it to happen, but maybe they will subvert expectations by actually doing all that I said they wouldn't?
Who knows?

I still don't expect it to happen.

They take a long time to adapt to new hardware.

But well, I won't really speculate much and instead I will just wait until tonight (or tomorrow for most you, because timezones). lol

To be honest, probably yes. lol

Seriously though, I'm really not imagining any main Pokemon game either. Maybe spin-off or something. I really don't know.

Honestly, I don't think they would do a Direct just for a minor spin-off or even mobile game. It's probably related to either a main line game or a major spin-off.

Well, "barely handle" is probably exaggerated, but they both have sections that don't run smoothly, especially the regular 3DS. The 3D camera sections run like shit on both systems, though. Probably in 15 FPS or so.

Quick rundown on announcements:

Pokken Tournament on Switch, out september 22.
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, a sequel/alternate version to Sun and Moon. Out November 17
Pokemon Gold and Silver will come to 3DS VC, same day as Pokken.

Disappointed the new games are not on Switch, but ok. I'll give it a year.
Wow, that was lame. I really didn't plan on using my 3DS for yet another year, but I guess now I have to. I was really hopeing for something on the Switch. I mean, we do get Pokemon Tekken, but I didn't even get that game on Wii U. It's not like I was super hyped for a Switch version. There wasn't even any information on Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. I have no idea what those games are about aside from "there's a new-ish legendary Pokemon in them". It was just another one of those Directs that made you say "so you really couldn't just put those announcements into a simple press announcement?"

The amount of salt from people I saw in the stream chat was hilarious.

Port of Pokken looks great as it gets a second chance to sell well on the Switch which is doing great so far.

Ultra Sun and Moon look like Black and White 2 which if those games are anything to go off means they'll be improving on Sun and Moon which are excellent entries in the series so hopefully we get some new Pokemon and maybe other regional variants.

Gold and Silver coming to the Eshop is fine. Would prefer Crystal but whatever :')
I am pretty hyped for US and UM, because that means old Pokémon are once again going to be back and placed somewhere. Not only does that mean the post-game will be enhanced, that also means the National Dex might return. I hate the Bank Dex.
all I want is for the fucking 30-second christened every time I run into a single wild pokemon to be removed and maybe make my character make more than 1 facial expression like he's on some sort of ecstasy
Despite Gold/Silver coming to Virtual Console, Crystal is not following them, even though Yellow is on Virtual Console. I have a few theories as to why, ranked from least likely to most likely:

A) Emulation problems. I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to run Crystal, but some dodgier Gameboy Color emulators can run Gold and Silver but not Crystal, so it is a possibility.

B) They're planning to release Crystal after people buy Gold or Silver and hope people double dip.

C) The japanese version of Crystal made use of a mobile adaptor designed for the Gameboy Color. You could hook it up to a mobile phone and connect Crystal to the internet. Then the player could trade Pokémon and obtain the GS ball. This feature was gutted in the English version, but it's possible that instead of just modifying the ROM to remove this version in the Japanese version, they decide not to release Crystal at all, and America and Europe followed this because...Nintendo.
Although I really liked Sun/Moon, these third versions haven't really hyped me much tbh lol. I was hoping Game Freak was moving away from third versions, and we'd get a sequel again or something but I guess not! Oh well lol

I predict that these will be the last games of gen 7, and that gen 8 will be introduced on the switch, followed by Diamond and Pearl remakes.

Something gives me the feeling that nintendo will be phasing out the 3DS in the near future. I give it a year or two. I know there's the 2DS XL, but if the Wii mini was anything to go by, that's not really telling us much lol.
