Am I being too rude if I say I don't like the shrine-gateway thing? The way you changed pallete for the bottom of the pillar is just bad, I think you should go with some other tile if you want to connect it with another color. Also one of your screenshots shows a chuck running behind the leftmost gate pillar, which looks wrong for its given angle. You should only make the rightmost pillar have priority over sprites.
I think you better off going with the ghost house tileset for some of the terrain (even if it's overused), as it fits more the shrine concept (if you have a shrine gate you might as well have a shrine lol).
I don't like the "cherry-blossom
bushes" too. I think the forest tree tiles with a very bright pink color could work better.
Also I did like better your previous bamboo with the pipe tiles. I think you should go with it even if it looks exactly the same as Blizzard Buffalo's. This concept is kind of limited in resources, so you gotta use what you have.
Those were my thoughts, I hope you'll do a good job there. Good luck!
A torii is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the profane to the sacred. The presence of a torii at the entrance is usually the simplest way to identify Shinto shrines, and a small torii icon represents them on Japanese road maps. They are however a common sight at Japanese Buddhist temples too, where they stand at the entrance of the temple's own shrine, and are usually very small.
