Well, here goes my bamboo themed level, I'm still working in it...

Feedback welcomed, any suggestions?

Have a frost day~
The pillars actually look like bamboo, so good work there. Could use little leaves too, but whatever.
As for the level, well, it looks generic. Perhaps use the bamboo in such a way that it incorporates a gimmick rather than just an aesthetic choice? Like you can climb on the bamboo or give some layer priority for some sort of vision obscuring thing.
The main concept was trying to create a bamboo bg instead of the generic forest, but I don't know how to do it.

Also I was planning to make the bamboo fg obscure the vision, but all the result I had was just behind Mario...

Well, you could simply make a bamboo background, basically what you've got on Layer 2, but with a different color, and change the palette of the whole place altogether to make this forest more "asian"? As for Layer 3, perhaps add a smaller bamboo layer, and some sort of "distant asian mountains" thing on Layer 3? That way, it'd feel like some sort of asian bamboo forest. If you got questions on how to do something, let us know.

Very unique theme, overall, however! I'd love to see how this turns out!

I made something...

(Tileset merging is something I don't know yet, please teach me.)

Oh wow, I'm loving that background, it's so cool!! I would definitely make some adjustments to the palette, especially the dark blue in between the bamboo shoots. Maybe try it with green? Also, it you're going with like an oriental theme, I would use ninjis a lot for sure.

Also, I'm not sure if the foreground palette is finished, but I would adjust it a lot. Right now it's very mint green, I would make it a more yellow-green. Also, green dirt never really looks good.
Looking good so far. You just need to change the color of the Layer 2 background so it's distinct that it's the background, and then perhaps make some sort of "asian" mountain background on Layer 3. This can be accomplished by using simple 1 or 2-color 8x8 tiles. Remember that the Layer 3 will cut off on the top of the screen due to the Status bar, so try not to make your Layer 3 too tall. If you've got questions, I can answer.

I'd love to see you make a really beautiful oriental theme with all the possibilities! As Gbreeze suggested, Ninjis would work great in a theme like this, and in my opinion, Volcano Lotuses work too.

Alright, I need to slowly learn step by step...

First of all, how to merge and transparent tilesets.

I also want to add Montys, but the sprite limits doesn't let me.

What do you mean by "First of all, how to merge and transparent tilesets"? Also, it looks like you didn't use 8x8 tile F8 to fill in the transparency tiles.

Those white highlights are way too distracting.

E: a foggy bamboo forest could look dope probably

I was meaning that I need to learn how to merge tiles to make the mountains in the background, and also how to make transparent sprites to fix the bamboo leaves.

...and yes, I could get to work the fog in it...

Yeah before we over-complicate things, let's do one step at a time.

You're gonna need to download YY-CHR to any of that. After you've done that, hit these buttons #lm{extgfx}#lm{insgfx}#lm{extexgfx}#lm{insexgfx} in order, and then in the same folder as your ROM, there will be a folder called "graphics", and in it, is GFX09, which has the monty mole gfx. Open up YY-CHR and then open up the GFX09 file by just clicking open from file and choosing the GFX09 file. The graphics will look garbled so click 4 BPP SNES under the graphics format tab.

Now, click file and save as, and save this as ExGFX80 or something, and save it in the ExGraphics folder, which will be in the same place as the Graphics one.

Now do the same thing but open up GFX file GFX0E, which is where the ninjis are, and right click and drag to highlight the ninjis, and then press CNTRL + C to copy them. Now, just reopen the old ExGFX80 file you made and paste the nijis in the same location they were in the other folder. This way, you can have nijis and montys in your level at the same time.

As for the fog, click #lm{sgfxby} and uncheck the bypass option, and then click #lm{gfxby} and change the GFX to Ghost House 1, and add the layer 3 mist. Then, go back and recheck the GFX bypass and change all the numbers back to whatever they correspond to, like for example FG3 should be 16 if you want a regular grassland tileset.
Yeah, Gbreeze summarized it up for me. Also, I'd darken up the smaller bamboo in the background so it's farther away, or brighten it if you're going to make the back area color a lighter color.

I see, but I have to use more palettes, which is something I have to be limited unfortunately...

Remember, you're not restricted to just the left side of the palettes. You can make your own custom palettes and use those for your own other purposes, as long as you follow the rules and guidelines. And, Layer 2 can also use Palettes 0-7, not just 0-1. However, Layer 3 is restricted to the first two palette rows, 4 colors at a time.

I corrected all the transparency... Yay...

To do:
-Place the Monty Mole graphics
-Progress the next warp pipes (Secret Exit and Second Part)
-Try to place the tiles overlaping each other, as currently they overwrite the other tile.

Second Section:
-Place the mountains behind the bamboos in the background.

Looking good. I will say: Think you can change the color of the bamboo, in the context of it not looking like a Background Palette Set 7?

Now, if you're doing an asian theme, I have a few other sprite suggestions you can base on, or use. You can also use the Sumo Bro, though do note that the Sumo Bro will conflict with the Ninji, so you cannot use both in the same area. Pitchin' Chucks also work, though replacing the baseballs with a shuriken can work well, too.

I hope you can find a good gimmick for the level!

Hmmm, what was the GFX that located the Pitchin' Charlies in the data? What tile could make a perfect star, the scoreboard one?

Also yes, I call the Chucks Charlies due to the Talkhaus.

Have a frost day~
The Chucks are in GFX09, just like the Monty Mole, Volcano Lotus, and Sumo Bro. Ninjis are on GFX0E, also included with a Volcano Lotus.

As for the perfect shuriken, how about using one of the stars in either GFX00, or GFX001? Those may work.

And, about the calling Chucks "Charlies" thing, I don't blame you, dude.
