[-1*(e^(i*pi))] Swiss Steamworks [V1.2 out]

I might reskin/retheme this idk.
Gimmick is a secret for now.

oooh, this is looking nice. I hope we get a lot of swiss levels this year, so Morsel can be proud.
The shade of brown on the foreground is really delicious. It makes me crave chocolate.
This looks really cool so far. I like how the elements are placed and the nonlinear feel it gives off.

Just a suggestion though: maybe you should darken the red in the danger signs a little, because as it is now it's really bright compared to the rest.
Firstly, as a mathematician, the title of this thread got my immediate attention. What I saw in this thread did not disappoint. The palettes are great, and so is the scenery (the darker areas of the foreground are a nice touch). If the theme is Swiss Steamworks, then I would add more pipes, with animated clouds of steam. At present, I do not see any actual steam and the level feels more like a factory.
love the colours!! Especially the darker shades on the bricks (assuming it's from water damage?)
ask me if i give a f*ck...
thanks everyone for the feedback 8>

also have some gameplay; you can probably guess the gimmick (and yes this glitch is vanilla)

He pulled off a weird glitch where the sprites think they're underwater, but Mario isn't. Pretty smart.

Also nice level dude!
Yeah I used the glitch in this video.

Though, it has been brought to my attention that these sort of shenanigans have been attempted before as a vldc entry, and there seems to be some controversy over it back then.

I'll leave it up to vitor and the judges as to whether this kind of glitch is allowed this time, seeing as other people (hobz, gbreezesunset last year) are using vanilla-bending glitches as well. I have another idea if they don't allow it.
Honestly, I think it should be allowed. It's not like you're at an unfair advantage or anything; it's still entirely possible to make a garbage level with a cool gimmick. It seems like it would be weird to disallow glitches when the 1f0 tile is being used in so many entries, anyway?

This level looks cool, by the way.
I agree with Delta - it would be asinine to try and put an arbitrary limit on how glitchy something can be before it's considered not vanilla, especially when (as they mentioned) 1F0 is being used extensively. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

As for the level so far: it looks interesting. The gimmick you've used seems quite versatile, so I'm hoping you'll be able to pull off some clever set-ups beyond what you have here.
All glitches are completely acceptable, unless if they cause negative effect; the negative effect ones usually are patched out, for instance.

The level looks overall pretty good and interesting, with the only thing I'd suggest for being careful with excess difficulty, which watching from the screenshots and gif, it made clear that some precision movements are needed to don't get hurt.

But good job so far!

Aw poop, me and Eminus are using this glitch for our level..

Ah well. We're using a couple other ridiculous glitches in addition. You've done a really nice job with this one though. Good luck with it!! I guess we'll have two anti gravity levels in the vldcx hehe

Edit: also, while we were experimenting, me and Eminus found a really interesting variation of this glitch, which is even more specific :P (no spoilers though) but I'll PM you the general idea if you want cause I mean you took the trouble to use this glitch anyway (and you're a really good level designer so I look forward to what you can make)
The "controversy" in that old thread was just AxemJinx pretty much. I don't think anybody's against creative glitch usage, especially now that the triangle block is basically not even a gimmick any more in a lot of people's eyes.

It's a lot more excusable than custom music and nobody ever complained about that.
Your layout has been removed.
Well I didn't want to make a space level and call it anti-gravity, so I sorta handwaved the gimmick by calling it "extreme air resistance due to steam", hahah.

BTW, I can't wait to see what level you guys came up with GBreeze (and I would rather wait for the experience :O)
Neat title, but I personally prefer the generalized form e^ix = cos(x) + isin(x).

Hehe.. well that's kinda what we did, without spoiling too much. But there's a lot more too it of course. The level looks at all different variations of "gravity", which makes no sense until you play the level itself haha. This level looks phenomenal so far though.

Thanks :D I'm definitely excited to see this finished too! Maybe both will end up in the best world.. hopefully! I can see this level being a top contender... it's got the level design, aesthetics, everything.
