-PIT OF IGNJATOVIC-

Hello there
i present to you my own 1 Level Pit Hack
You know, all these Pit Hacks that were submitted a few days ago really got me back into Kaizo Hacking.

This Hack is called 'Pit of Ignjatovic'
'Ignjatovic' is my last Name, it's a Serbian Name and i wanted to use it for the Title

I don't have any Screenshots for now, but i have a little Video
Link to the Video

I'm actually scared to use Wall Kicks in my Hack, or Glitch Abuse in general...
Tell me what you think
Looks nice so far! Keep working on it!
Seems a bit too easy for pit hack.

I mean, it's probably fine Kaizo: Hard ROM hack, but I don't think it requires frame advance?

Trust me, it does, it only looks easy becuase it's tased... with slowdown
Yeah, it looks really easy for a pit hack right now. You should always push tricks (overused or not) to the limit and never forget to create sections that require slowdown and frame advance. You can also abuse glitches wherever you feel is absolutely necessary, especially walljumping.

There are a lot of pit hacks out there that take advantage of those facts alone, so you could check them out and gather more inspiration from there. Take in mind that pit hacks should be fun and creative!

Fun to watch on YT, but painful fun to play.
idk

I can't think of a single pit hack out there that looks fun to play, but if you mean fun and creative to watch like a circus performance, then yeah. At least pit hacks don't attract the controversy of the mistreatment of (real) tigers and elephants.

Well, trust me in saying that difficulty depends on the person viewing.

To me the first room looks like it'd be possible with half speed maybe less. And the second room doesn't seem to require any slowdown.

(Also if that 'it does' refers to frameadvance then no... not even close to being required)

I really wouldn't care too much about that. As long as whatever you're using is creative it shouldn't matter wether it's glitch abuse or not (at least in pit hacks), as long as you can beat it and have fun with it it's fine.

Depends on the person. I can think of a few that I had fun playing.

Still, I'm curious as for what is going to happen with this.

It's fun to play if you have at least some degree of experience, so it practically depends on the person playing it.

imo if you're not forced to use frame advance for at least half the time, it's not hard enough. Sure, you could class it as pit since it'd be harder than Kaizo:hard, but if you wanna make a REAL pit hack, it's gotta be hard as balls. Pit hacks are meant to be frustratingly difficult even with frame advance.
I would tag this hack as Kaizo: Hard so far.
It can require some slowdown here, a save state there and some frame specific trick sometimes, but that does not make it a pit hack automatically.

In my humble opinion, a pit hack must require ultra hard tricks for someone who has tools at disposal. And you have frame advance, Lua scripts and even RAM cheats for testing ideal conditions. The difficulty is also relative to the epoch, since some pit hacks from 2009/2010 are way too easy nowadays.

Now, what make a pit hack nice?
1) Explicit hard moves, specially if they are done concurrently. A sequence of tricks without conection with the previous one is not as nice.

2) Rooms shouldn't be too small: I don't mean its size, but the time spent in each one. Many transitions per minute is not nice.

3) At least one trick must be exclusive, never seen before. That's my major complaint with most pit hacks: they are only different instances of the same old glitches or techniques.

Couldn't agree more. Unless the room has a specific gimmick such as not camera scroll or abuses a specific trick and you've exhausted your creativity for that trick, there is little reason not to make a level longer. I've seen too many short pit hacks recently that feature several 10-15 second rooms, rather than a few longer ones.
The third room is done!
And it's beatable

I still think it looks easy for a pit hack, but it looks really good! I'm looking forward to the next room you design!
What would be the technical requirements to distinguish pit and kaizo? Would kaizo require at most 25% slowdown or 50%? Whatever it is, I'm going to try and beat this hack played at whatever slowdown rate, and if I can beat it, then it's kaizo not pit.

Regardless of its difficulty class, your hack is looking pretty nice so far :)
Thank' you jay
And all of you, thank's for the feedback!
Very good hack from here. I think the two first rooms are way too easy to be in pit difficulty. For me, it's kaizo: hard. To be honest, a pit hack should contain some very creative and insane sections which aren't filled with the repetitive techniques. One thing that makes pit hack more creative is using a trick or technique which has been never seen before. Nice work and good luck!

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

Next Room
The red blocks here kill sprites, but only Mario can pass trough them
There's also a moon to get with the Key, if you want to, the key is used to pass that pit
And some double springboard stunts at the end
Are you supposed to wait for the goomba to come back to life? (Can't tell if a walljump to the keyblocks is possible, don't think so though)
Because if that's the case I feel like it could ruin the flow having to wait for something and doing nothing. (And I can't really see the point of the goomba other than waiting for it to recover)
