A Plumber For All Seasons - World 1 Gameplay Footage

A Plumber For All Seasons is a hack I've been working on for (aaaaaaaaa) close to five years now. For those who haven't heard of it, the main premises are:
  • there's four main worlds, each in the same location but in a different season
  • I'm trying to make as many resources as possible myself - certainly all the graphics, a lot of ASM, and perhaps some music here and there. (psst! if you're interested in composing/porting music for this hack, get in touch with me!)

I'm notoriously slow at working on this - it's only now that I got the first world (that is, the Spring world) done, and even then I'm still missing a secret level. However, I figured C3 would be a good time to show what I've made so far to the more general public! Here's a little trailer-like thing for all of you.

Watch the video here!

This is magnificient. Your graphics are top-notch (that Big Boo face is so cute), the ASM is excellent as always (did not expect that sideways vine o_o) and the general tone of the levels is incredibly well-made. It's like one of those times where you don't want the game to end because you're drawn into its ambiance.
Can't wait to see the other seasons, especially Winter.
beautiful as always, WYE. I love your graphics and this looks absolutely amazing!! That layer 3 water is giving me chills its so good. As you know I've been following this hack since your initial thread, and from what I can see, I can assure you that all the hard work is paying off, and then some!
One question, how many big coins are you planning on having per level? The ones in the video were all out in plain sight, so if there's only 3 it seems a little strange to make them so easy to get.

(also noticed how brief that goal sphere animation was. ur the real mvp for that)
ask me if i give a f*ck...
Very nice. Your graphics are lovely, the ASM seems like it will be good, and the levels look pretty well made (though maybe a bit difficult for the first world?). I hope you continue and finish this.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
This is just outstanding. The graphics are just beautiful, and the design looks like it's much more than just basic linear kind of design, with gimmicks and such.
Keep up the good work, I want to play this so much!
I love what I'm seeing so far. Wish you the best at completing this!
Layout by RanAS, modified by yours truly.

Doing all the graphics yourself definitely was a good choice, because it shows. Where most hacks just throw in all the graphics they can find and don't really care about matching art styles or an authentic world, this one really looks as though everything belongs together. Really hope you can find a composer for your hack so that the same thing can be said about the music eventually. Will definitely play this, even though it will probably take another ten years or so before it will be completed. #ab{;)}
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Pretty horizontal and vertical scrolling HDMA (it's such a minor detail with water in Layer 2 background and on overworld, but I love it).

At 2:15, I can see player collecting a big coin. This causes V-Blank to last a little too long causing ugly black bar to appear at the top of a screen. But that's a really minor issue.

Either way, great work at pushing SNES capacities.

The graphics look pretty, but I won't discuss that, as I'm not too experienced with those.
I wouldn't imagine myself developing a hack for five years straight, especially one like this.

Your work is just so magnificent without any doubts. That trailer was a blast - your graphics, design and even the music used in the video are beautiful. I so badly want to have an opportunity to play this once it's released.
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
I absolutely loved the ghost house. From outdoors to indoors. Actually, I can't recall anyone ever bothering with redrawing the ghost house exterior ever, and those slanted platforms and the neat background with actually lit chandeliers were great choices for the theme. Very good job!
Thanks for the kind words, everyone! #tb{:D} It's comments like this that keep me motivated.

There's five per level. They're rather easy to get since this is world 1 (though most are in separate rooms at least) - I'll make sure to have them less "in the way" in later levels.

The way I design levels, there seems to be only a fine line between difficult and boring. I think I've managed to make it neither, and I can beat the levels rather easily, but yeah, I'll definitely get some people to beta test later and possibly make adjustments to some setups.

I hope it is! Occasionally though the coin doesn't entirely disappear, leaving a couple of 8x8 tiles behind, and I'm not sure how to further optimize the code. Maybe installing SA-1 eventually will help?

Thanks again! I'll do my best to get this done sooner rather than later.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Never change that Big Boo.

Nice ASM, but I'm more wowed by the visual aesthetics than anything.

The level with the ghost house gives me New Super Marisa Land vibes.

If you got rid of the remaining Mario assets then you would think this was an original game and not a SMW Hack. That's impressive.

I've always liked your work and your old Pokey hack was something that inspired me to make my own hacks be as creative as they could.

Seeing the amount of polish and shine in this hack be it the presentation or the custom ASM.

It's a truly impressive effort and I look forward to play the full version some day.

Don't rush it. ^.^ Not that you would...
Didn't think you'd still be working on this, or anything for that matter. You finishing something felt more like a myth after the pokey thing died so if this ever gets finished that'd be a really nice surprise!!

The overworld is gorgeous btw, only thing I don't quite get is the shape of that mountain. It's missing a bit of definition, kinda looks like it could be shaped a lot of ways right there.
Your layout has been removed.
No way; this can literally be one of the best hacks ever made.

And yes, I've kept in mind that you drew all of these yourself, which must have made building the hack extra challenging. However, it pays off as everything is more likely to blend together and not clash, which many hacks end up falling victim to to save time.

Here's to hoping this gets finished before the Rapture!

Holy Crap, I can't believe I missed this thread. This hack looks amazing!. Excellent job man.
Layout by LDA during C3.
I can't say anything new. All the others said everything thus far.
The Graphics, The ASM Stuff (The whole Overworld for example), and the overall Gimmick and theme of the Hack. Everything is done so nicely that you can definetly tell that a lot of passion went into it this far.

Definetly looking forward to play it.
