Super Mario: Grand Journey - Updated Demo!

Today I am revealing my work on a new hack I am working on
that will be replacing my old hack (SMW3: The Koopas Strike Back). I'd like to introduce you:

Super Mario: Grand Journey

It is an exploration-esque Mario game where the worlds are not placed in a specific order!
You will venture through a mysterious island in search of a way to halt the Koopa Troop's control over it.

The four legendary switch palaces are the key your victory!

I've prepared a small 12 level demo featuring 15 exits! The hack features custom sprites and blocks.
Also, I have taken up the task of completely reshading all of the sprites in SMW. All graphical alterations you notice are made by yours truly!

Feedback would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks for stopping by!

Good job. It's always nice to see a decent vanilla hack. ^_^
Layout by LDA during C3.

Thanks! I put a great deal of effort into keeping the level design concise while improving the look of the vanilla graphics. Hope you enjoy it

Yes this is definitely looking like a promising vanilla-esque hack with that solid choice for custom graphics and those vanilla gimmicks I can spot there in the screenshots. ;)

Nice job with paletting as well, and I gotta say it's not everyday you see a hack using both custom and original SMW palettes. Good picks there!
Great demo! Level design was fairly good, even if a bit simple. I really like what you have done with the graphics as well, but I feel the black outlines don't work very well with some of the sprites - the Blaargs and Sparkies, in particular. I slightly prefer their original versions.

Also, the red palette on the skull raft level isn't as good as the others, in my opinion. I'm not a huge fan of using the same color for everything, I think you could vary it up a bit more.

By the way, agreeing with Erik's comment on the submission - I don't think it was immediately clear where it's safe to land here at first, adding some coins above the note block below would probably help.
I have released an update to the demo! Includes fixes for issues based on feedback, as well as the inclusion of custom music (including newly released tracks from this C3!)

Thanks for the feedback! I just released an update for the demo fixing the issues mentioned by erik! As for the sprite graphics, I'm going to leave them as is for now, but it's something I'm definitely going to consider. I'm also going to tweak the palette for the lava stage, I agree that it's too much red.

As for the level design, that's what I was aiming for, a SMW style hack with overworld exploration being one of the main gimmicks.

Thanks! I think some of the Original palettes looked pretty good, especially when combined with new FG/BG palettes.

Never passed by and commented in the thread, huh? I thought I did...
anyway I had lots of fun moderating your demo, so I hope you continue it. It has the potential to become a great hack, so good job!
