Life hacks

No, I'm not talking about a ROM editing tool to edit real life. I'm talking about tricks, shortcuts, skills, or novelty methods that make things easier and more efficient in all aspects of life.

When I eat oranges I like to cut out a round piece of the skin from the polar regions, enough to expose the fruit, then make an incision from north to south and open up the skin that way. Faster than cutting individual slices or peeling the whole skin off bit by bit.

There are probably others I'm not thinking of off-hand (does doing basic math the non-common core way count?). Are there any life hacks you practice?

Oh I know so many....

Rapping your sandwiches in paper towel before putting them in a Ziploc bag or container keeps them from getting soggy.

On top of feeling good, sex can unblock a stuffy nose, help combat asthma, and relieve symptoms of hay fever.

If you're struggling to remember a word, clenching your fist has been proven to increase brain activity and improve your memory.

To clear a stuffy nose press your tongue against the roof of your mouth and press your finger in between your eyebrows for 20 seconds.

If you get an ink stain on some fabric, if you just use hand sanitizer on it it'll come right out.

If you have a migraine, put your hands in some ice water and flex them several time and your migraine will disappear.

ORRR just download Lunar Magic, reality edition.

I'm not so sure; being a cheapskate is a bit of an art, and how to best go about it can vary quite a bit from individual to individual. There's a lot of small things which skimping on or cutting out entirely (for me things like having a stock of decent tea, or whiling a few hours away in a café or pub every once in a while) isn't a good idea, as the large loss in quality of life doesn't really justify the paltry savings you get in return. On the other hand, you may discover there are things other people might consider moderately essential which you can easily do without entirely (I have never in my adult life owned a television or phone, and I don't miss either). Finding out what you need and what you don't to live a life that's reasonably fulfilling is the essence of living cheaply but without misery.

On the other side of things, there's some cases where saving money in the short term actually costs you money in the medium and long term (see Sam Vimes' Boot Theory). For instance, when I first moved to Germany, I needed a new rice cooker (as I couldn't well cart my old one over here with me). So I basically got the cheapest one I could find, which was just under €20. It was actually surprisingly decent--not as good as my old one (a solid middle-grade device which served me well for a good 8 years, and as far as I know is still fully functional in the possession of a friend of mine), but certainly of a good value for the price. Or so it seemed at first...until it broke about four months later. So I got another, of the same model...which again broke after about five months. It was a while before I got another one (as I was soon leaving for a semester in Denmark, where I mostly used couscous instead of rice anyway), but once I got back, I paid about €12 more for a slightly better model, and this one has outlived the previous two combined. So in this case, skating too cheaply actually ended up costing me. It's all about knowing when to pinch and when to (comparatively) splurge, and that's something you mostly learn through experience.
I'm exaggerating for comedic purposes there.
But yeah, moderately using your money in a more strategic and less compulsive way is a great thing.

You need to balance cost and quality.

That's really probably the key element.

Reading through the source code should be a good start.

Real hackers don't need source code. A hex editor is all you need.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Hermetics (Bardon) combined with Kantian Ethics and Kantian Philosophy. IMO, best life hack you can get, but pretty hard work.

Cinossu? I just remember a guy who called himself Hapi-San. He was on acmln long ago. I asked him whether I could use his layout or not, and he allowed me to let me use it.

EDIT:
Besides that, I believe that I actually had a credits sign in there.

Ah, that clears things up

Hapi-san is Cinossu/Mark btw

I can't really think of any life hacks that I've personally used, but when I think of life hacks, I usually think of this.
Hey y'all, Scott here!

I learned this trick some years ago to tie my shoes quickly. It's tricky at first, but once you get it, it becomes very practical.

Current project: working on a personal website and a portfolio.

...this is actually what i came here to post. uh..
If you're tired of losing the draw strings on your hoodies in the wash, line the strings up to the length you want them to be and staple the top of your hood to keep them in place forever. The staple will be unnoticeable and your strings will remain intact!
(i usually just tie them together, but whenever i take them out of the wash the strings are untied so i dont know if it's worth risking it.)

I found that using an axe on people you don't like is a life HACK
