Mario is Missing! - Beta updated 9-22

7-4: Cool idea. Though it seems to be that if you really want a "geyser" effect, they should go up and down faster and probably stay at the top longer. It works, though.
7-5: Looks pretty neat. Though is there only one type of Bullet Bill in here? Oh well.
7-6: I like this one. Good music choice, good atmosphere, and everything.
7-Fortress: Also pretty cool. It seems you forgot to set the scrolling for the Layer 3 background in the second part again, but that's a minor detail.
7-Ship: I like it. Nice idea and variety in terrain.
7-7: Seems good. I don't actually see that many "castle wall" levels in hacks. And I don't care what anyone says to the contrary; the music fit just fine (though I'll admit I don't generally expect to hear Zelda music in a Mario game).
Bowser's Castle: Well, I still say you should have done the multiple-checkpoint thing, but I like it. It does seem "final" enough.

So I guess this is it, then. Good luck with beta testing. I could do some, but I'm not sure what I'd contribute other than being able to test in accuracy mode. (On that note, we really need to get in touch with someone who knows more about the SNES than I do and find out why the level intros glitch on real hardware....)

@Gamma V: I noticed that in W2-1 of this hack that when you first get Yoshi, you get Chrono Trigger Reference when Yoshi said Chancellor of Guardia!
What song did you use for W2-2?! I'm only asking for the name, not the actual txt file itself! Great hack btw! #smw{:TUP:}
Update: I found a cutoff on the pipe where you fly over the level in W3-6!
OK. I'll beta test it. Graphics are inserted.

Edit: @Gamma V: And don't forget about the next project, "Super Mario Bros. The Early Years"! 1/4 of the hack is done only 3/4 to go!

And I agree with MKDSmaster91, the pipe in level Just kickin' It is short, it needs to be fixed and extended.

2nd Night of Beta Testing this hack and I found these Wrong Goal Placement bugs while flying through these levels!
Screen 1: W6-2
Screen 2: W7-1
Screen 3: W7-2

And in the Airship Levels, the number 2, 3 or 8 replaces the W in World you see on the World Counter! Can you please fix these bugs if possible?!
@MKDSMaster91: It's possible that that can happen in any level with vertical scroll enabled that you can fly through. I suppose I COULD disable cape flight, but I think I'd kinda upset Face since he worked so hard drawing Luigi's cape flight frames.

Apparently, smkdan's Rocky Wrench was causing those issues with the W in the World counter. Switching to Koyuki's Rocky Wrench appears to have fixed it.

Edit: Upon doing a little research, I found that there was a freeram conflict between smkdan's Rocky Wrench and the SMB3 status bar. I'm not much of an ASMer, so I figured just using the other Rocky would be the best idea. :P

Oh, and that cutoff pipe in 3-6 has been fixed.

These Goal placement bugs are sure annoying, and world counter bug is also annoying! They need to be FIXED!

That World counter bug has been fixed. It turns out that the code in smkdan's Rocky Wrench wasn't even necessary for the sprite to function. Alcaro figured it was probably left over from debugging. Why else would a sprite store its status to a RAM address used for the Status Bar? Apparently, it's a n00bish way of creating a boss hit counter in the Status Bar, but Rocky Wrench is just a normal stage enemy that just dies in one hit.

Aside the status bar bug, what's the big difference between the 2 versions of the Rocky Wrench sprite?

smkdan's is a bit more accurate to the source sprite than Koyuki's. Koyuki's uses only one animation frame, can only be stomped if out of hiding, dies in a puff of smoke, and uses a reskinned Dry Bones bone for its wrench rather than a custom projectile sprite.

Here's an updated beta.

CHANGES:
* Debugged smkdan's Rocky Wrench
* Fixed a cutoff pipe in 3-6
* Replaced the HDMA in 5-5 with a fake HDMA on Layer 3 to eliminate NMI Overflow-induced flickering
* Tweaked the flamethrower placement in Larry's room and removed his following behavior, which, along with the original setup, made the boss a little TOO hard
* Stopped Bowser from shooting the round exploding fireball, as that can be a little too hard to deal with, even for a final boss

* Changed the background palette in 1-7 and tweaked the foreground palette a bit to better match it
* Disabled cape flight to eliminate the issues that could arise from flying over levels, such as sliding down an invisible flagpole at the goal and getting hurt by an off-screen Fire Pillar
* Changed the position of some backgrounds that appeared to be too low
* Changed Kooper's message to explain that the player can't fly with the cape since his hut is the first place in the game where you can get one

@Gamma V: I was playing the latest beta of this hack and I found this glitch in the final boss room where Bowser can go through the wall while standing back, go off screen and you would have to wait until time expires to return to the map!
I'll have to talk to imamelia about that one. I tried not having walls in the room and having the room be 2 screens long, but that caused the teleport to the credits not to work consistently.

In 5-2, I can't seem to find the secret exit. I went into LM and found out which screen the secret is found in but none of the pipes can be entered, meaning I can't reach the secret exit. I dunno if this is just a problem with my patch or not.

No, it's not. You actually need to get all 5 A-Coins. Then, you can go down the first ground pipe you saw as you went in for the last one. There's a reason I put the pipe to the room with the secret so close to the final A-Coin.
