Kaizo Screenshots & Videos Thread

Original ideas aren't too scarce.. but it's okay to get inspired by people of course. Literally one of the levels on the works for my hack is called Koumei's Forest hehe
There's no way to be completely original most of the time, although there are many ideas you can take advantage of that you could test over and over. It's alright to gather inspiration from other people's work and even expand them until they get beaten to the ground, as long as you don't flat out steal their material.

Of course. I only joke about Undertaker stealing ideas because he always says he will steal ideas. One does not simply say "Hey I'll steal Peach" and then steal Peach.

Also, sorry for derailing this thread.

Just thought I would mention you better change your avatar now

Next person to derail the thread gets IP banned for the rest of eternity tbh

But seriously though, there's no way to really protect against using levels heavily for inspiration, and honestly, I don't really see Undertaker do it much at all. The only issue that can really be protected against is outright copying, and we won't accept hacks that are copied. I've almost never seen users here blatantly copy stuff though, it's usually random people with 0 posts.

Now someone post a screenshot to get us on topic lol
Sure, I could go into detail more but it would be too bad for him .
So you can IP ban me now

Breaking the First Law
A quick kaizo I made to get in shape for the upcoming contest (my entry's gonna be way easier than this tho). This is technically my first kaizo level so I don't really know what I doing yet!
This isn't your first kaizo level. Matterhorn was. #w{:>}

It's fun to see underused sprites being used in extremely creative and awesome ways. That bit near the beginning with the flying block looks a bit tedious to figure out. Other than that this level is gorgeous
I'm really digging this level in general and how it uses underused sprites in clever ways. Keep it up!

I don't think there is a rule in Kaizo contest about entry anonymity and all that, so...

(THIS IS KAIZO CONTEST ENTRY, JUDGES OF THIS CONTEST ARE ENCOURAGED TO NOT VIEW THIS VIDEO)

Video: My Kaizo Contest Entry, Mountain of Fail, first part (a Kaizo light level, intended to be done without savestates)

This is my first Kaizo level, so it may be bad. Oh well.
That mountain level looks pretty interesting, only thing I can think of is being able to grab shells to make it easier. But it looks fun!

Nice work! I'm liking the level design, and for a first level, it's great! With practice you'll start getting used to LM.

About the 1-tile blocks, there's a very easy way to make them yourself. Open up the map16 editor and click this #lm{8x} so you can edit each tile individually. You can make a single 1-tile block out of the cave tileset this way.

Thanks! This is kind of a late reply, but your Banzai World hack was actually what inspired me to try my hand at making levels (well, that and Dram World). And I didn't realize it was that easy to edit tile graphics. Here's what it looks like now.

While we're at it, here are a few screens from my next level "Note Your Speed" it abuses the sticky noteblock glitch. You must figure out the correct way to stick long enough to make it through the tunnels. (I am aware of the corner tile in the 2nd pic)

p.s. A lot of people in this thread are very nice people who make wonderful, fun, and creative levels ^_^ I wish I had the time and skill necessary to play all of them

Thank you. It's just an ice world palette right now, not slippery.

hi! I have a little preview of what I have for my k ldc level so far!!! (spoilers for my kaizo ldc entry!)

I'm still not 100% sure of what defines a kaizo hack, so I'm a little worried it's too easy to really be considered kaizo, but honestly I'm having such a blast playing it, that I hope other people do too #w{=)}

initially when i set out in the planning stages, i realized that all of my ideas for my level were literally just things i saw in TAS's of other people's levels. So I'm trying as hard as I can to keep myself blind to outside ideas. And since I have to be able to beat it myself, it'll probably be on the easier side of things lol

white_moth i dont know what kind of feedback i could give you, but i think what you have looks really nice!
ask me if i give a f*ck...
@Hobz
For a beginner it looks pretty good , good work man?
Not bad for someone who's new to kaizo hacking, but I actually think that's a little too hard for the very beginning of the level, judging by how many savestates you had to use. The most important thing that not only makes up kaizo levels, but any type of level in general, is a good difficulty curve. You should try to start with something a little more simple and then gradually work your way up with the difficulty. I still like it nonetheless, and the palette choices are really pleasing. Good luck with this, Hobz!

Edit: had to edit some wording.

a peak of what will soon evolve into the first level of my newest kaizo hack that i hope i finish
currently just laying out some design ideas

it currently has no name and no plot i still need to figure those out

things to note:
-i disabled screen scrolling w/ the l+r keys (which i always do)
-i disabled spin jumping (you can no longer jump on enemies like spinies without dying)
-i inserted the wall kick patch as you can see (it's fun)

i might also put in the sprites on platforms patch but i'm not sure

planning on inserting a variety of new shit as i continue to work on it, i wanna make it as unique as possible
Oh hey I thought you left the hacking scene. Glad to see you're still with us!

The screenshots look really good! Looking forward to see what you make.
I didn't think you'd make kaizo hacks again after you released your latest one.
Nice screenshots by the way!

most of last year i was just depressed af and didn't feel like doing anything in the hacking scene. also because of the feeling that i'm not really interested in making another kaizo hack unless i can think of something new and fresh, which is pretty hard to do. i don't want to feel like i'm basically making a copy of one of my previous hacks.

this next one i'm planning to make a lot less intricate and puzzling and make it more about platforming. also the levels will be easier and shorter than the ones in mario is screwed (which i still need to submit to the hacks section goddam), so theoretically this one won't be as exhausting. again this is all assuming i stay motivated to work on it.
