Rise - Video Game Rom Hack Experience 90's Style

Standard

Titles. I just realized It's been over a month since C3 (thread link here) and I haven't even made a thread yet! Gotta change that right now. I'm currently polishing up levels to give you guys a true UnderwayTM experience. Here are some more pics of Level 3: Lakeside Forest.

Ok
implying you will finish this LOL

jk its nice but no underway style outside of aesthetics tbh

I will finish this in the year 20XX believe me.

I'm still trying to get it down lol. I'm focusing on aesthetics first because that's mainly what I think of when I see an underway level. Comparing it to the actual two levels he made for Rise, it actually fits really well when playing it with the actual game.

according to most people that's actually a good thing lol
Yeah, what Underway said lmao

Finalish Map
the level feels too open to really have a strong focus on ascetics. I mean, the level is very pretty and has a strong visual aspect, but based on the screenshots the level design is still the most prominent aspect of the level. That's usually why you should do ascetics after the level design. You can build a fun or nice level, and then fill the screen with as much shit as possible. If you try to do ascetics first you're left with a pretty empty, hollow level. But idk how underway does it so

Very pretty overworld too! The purple trees are a cute touch, are they going to appear in levels too? idk how i feel about the greyed out paths on that desert side though. the two pointed ones look like they lead right off the cliff. If there's a way to make them diagonal, that'd be cool.
ask me if i give a f*ck...

They are actually diagonal in the path reveal, so I guess that counts for something. I'm planning on changing that path one day as it's doesn't look the greatest.

The level actually isn't very hollow at all. I just can't really multitask when the level becomes very complex with many things occurring onscreen, so I mainly took pics in sections where I could rest for a second.
