shit nobody gives a crap about (aka bosses)

Having Mario and Bowser would not only be hard to code, but it would be slightly overwhelming for the player? Idk...

What attacks would you like to see in the Mario boss? It currently shoots fireballs only.

I guess it would make the most sense to include things that Mario has used over the years. Not sure how hard this would be to accomplish, but...
-throwing hammers and boomerangs
-jumping, Mario likes jumping and stuff
-ice balls that freeze Morton, idk
-something with the cape? Like in the 2nd phase include capespinning

How should Mario take damage? Just plain jumping on him?

Jumping on him makes the most sense to me. I can't think of anything unique right now. I mean you have the typical stuff, like using exploding bomb ombs (which can be annoying), throwing shells or some projectile.

As much as I would like Bowser and Mario being fought togheter, I also find this to be exhaustive as fuck. I think that it's alright with fighting the joke Bowser as the first phase, then a small cutscene or something, then the final deal with Mario. I want to hear some opinions to see what's to be done in regarding that.

Yeah, I agree with this. Maybe walk into the castle thing and Bowser's like oh hey whudup but he's standing on a bridge (like in SMB1) where touching a lever/switch destroys the bridge and he just plops into the lava, so it's super easy and basically a joke. Then the cutscene and the real battle. The idea is basically borrowed from New SMB. Idk if that's what you're going for.

Or, both boss fights could revolve around pressing switches and making them fall into lava. The first one is super easy and obvious. The Mario fight will involve timing the switches and Mario has to fall into the lava many times. That might be crazy hard to create though. I'm also not sure if you already finished the Bowser phase of the fight or not. It seems like you might've judging by the first post in this thread.
We discussed methods of damaging the Mario boss fight thoroughly on #morton, and other things about the boss as well. I suggested that you could damage Mario by just running into him, or dropping down from the ceiling (that doesn't have to be a thing, could just touch him) but he would dodge you pretty much every time, and attempt to jump on you in the process. So far, Erik showed me that apparently when Mario throws a fireball, the boss Mario gets stuck for a while. If the time for him to be stuck is pretty low, it'd make it so that even if Morton does have the advantage over Mario, Mr. M still puts up a good challenge by dodging like an insert-word-here. The inspiration from this apparently comes from how boss fights normally work in the games, where Mario is vulnerable from everywhere but his feet. Therefore, Morton should just be able to run into him or jump on him, but not when Mario is in the air.

This, of course, isn't the final decision, we just came up with this and thought it sounded cool. Discussion is, of course, still on-going. I'd personally like more opinions on the above, if anyone has any suggestions, blahblahblah ofc please post.

I don't know about the joke bowser, I mean, why would Bowser happen to be in the area in the first place?

As to what GderpSunrise said, I agree with and think the same as to what some of the attacks should be, and going with what I said above, I personally think that the ice balls should also make Mario vulnerable.

joke bowser

i think we mentioned this on the forums, but i thought the plan is to have the joke bowser be a vanilla smw bowser that goes down in one hit, or something.

Both indeed, but personally I was just gonna use a normal SMB1 Bowser LOL

Exactly. Once you defeat it you get teleported back to the true battle.

So far I got this:

(don't judge it's like 3% done smh smh)
(that intro will be changed when I get around to the cutscene stuff)
This will be an special attack of Mario when he gets x hits, a super-charged fireball as you can see. I thought that, when Mario gets burned, he would not be able to dodge any attack made by Morton, giving free way for an attack.
Which brings me to the next point:
I think Mario should show a 'weakness' after making a different attack, making Morton to be able of attacking him easier.

Gbreeze I'll see which of these attacks I could implement.
boss 2 (Tutanreznor) is obviously free now
the first boss is free unles Von magically reappears outta nowhere. the second boss is free unless LDA gets serious with it. I'm still doing the final boss, probably will do the second one if LDA lends me them progress again.

Hello, I like talking to myself.

I'll slow it down, feels kinda quick rn.
WHERE'S MORTON

Nah, but it's looking pretty good so far! I'll agree that it moves somewhat fast and could stand to be slowed down a bit, but not by a huge amount.

Also those fast moving tiny legs are just absolutely adorable.
Add these things: Visual cue that he's about to shoot, accelerations when he turns around (slides a bit).
von fahrenheit are you alive
(better way to put this: does someone have any idea if he's even alive)
