Well, I would have probably done something like an ASM request thread or something, but since there's now an actual thread for that now I'll just bring this back.
So, you may remember last C3 when I showed off this. The SMW Randomizer is an online tool coded by me and Authorblues that messes with a bunch of SMW's data and changes a variety of things, including level order, tilesets, palettes, powerups... a lot of things, basically; see the list from that thread for the older features. Since then, a few new features have been added, including:
- Sublevels can now be completely swapped around, meaning a level can do something like take you from Morton's entrance room to Iggy's autoscroller to Chocolate Fort's thwomp room to Roy. It's coded to restrict the number of rooms to be identical to the original length, so don't worry about ending up with never-ending levels.
- Keys can now be even hidden inside bubbles and exploding blocks.
- Autoscrollers can not only be removed from stages but also randomly added to them as well.
- Finished overworld modification, since we sorted out RLE2.
- Mario and Luigi can now be swapped.
- Various options for where to include saving - including no saves whatsoever.
- Some more sprite changes, plus the Lemmy/Wendy room layouts can now be randomized as well.
- Optional non-vanilla powerups to add a little spice: Hammer Suit Mario in place of fireflowers, plus a variety of new Yoshi abilities for when he has a shell in his mouth (including super speed, high jump, and coin factory).
- Optional music randomization, since people wanted that for some reason. The actual option just randomizes the level music and I recommend you read auth's opinion on that, but there's also a possible modification in pogyo/(☆^O^☆) mode which is... an experience, if you're lucky (or unlucky) enough to get it.
- A bunch of bug fixes. Did you know SMW doesn't like being changed? Even nothing can kill you in the right situations. Not even kidding, we really had to fix that.
...and a few other minor things you might come across while playing. Not a whole lot to be honest, though we really didn't start actively working on it again until about two montsh ago. Of course, we have a bunch of features in either development or planning too, including new CI2 tests, more custom powers, a lot more sprite changes, maybe (emphasis on "maybe") actually splitting levels into pieces and splicing them together, and more. It'd also be nice to add hack support, but... We'll see if that ever comes about. As always, though, we're open to suggestions (even on custom stuff to throw into the mix).
Anyway, in case you missed the link above, you can find the randomizer HERE.
