Post Leniency Policy

Glad to hear some more staff input on this policy, and that there's gonna be some change to the rules at some point in the future. However—

You do realize that we're all humans...right? We're not some hivemind that's always gonna think the same way or have even similar opinions on a topic. Saying that "we're not quite sure what we want" is sort of obvious, don't you think?

I found this post of mine and I think its relevant to this topic and where post leniency may take us. Don't forget that I correctly predicted that Nambona890 would be permabanned.

Can we not give air to the flames, please? I'm pretty sure Xyspade didn't mean his comment in the way it's being interpreted as; if he did, then shame on me. Still shouldn't really call him a shitter, as that's how shit like this starts in the first place.
I have noticed a tendency in the past (which I contributed to before years ago, and which I appologuise for) for things people are divisive over to tend to get nasty quickly. I don't want to sound harsh but I've found that sometimes staff can be slow to react to drama (especially on IRC... I don't frequent it anymore but things tended to spiral out of control a bit too often for my liking) and that tends to leave its scars. I'd appeal to people that if you really want to let a person know what you think of them, I'd do it over PM.

That being said, I also think certain people need to be more humble and not think them superior in their opinions. And let's lighten up as well; I don't want to sound apathetic (it is death after all) but we do seem to be getting a little bit too upset over a video game website...

Whoa. What did what I say get interpreted as?

Okay, I'll reword it to "I'm glad to see the staff tries their best to listen to the userbase and be willing to compromise if it is a very split opinion of the users."

What I meant by "they're not quite sure what they want" is it's not one solid opinion.

That's the most unfortunate part about internet forums and social media in generally. People tend to think they are completely invincible and can say whatever they want without repercussion (which in a way... they are...). People just need to be more humble, especially on a site like this which is meant to be a fun and friendly place.

Oh. I wonder who would've possibly suggested such a thing... #ab{x_x}

Am I really doing this again? Will I embarrass myself one more time? Sigh, might as well try! Why the hell not...

All I want is a community where people can join to share stuff with each other, where people can experience differing opinions and overall different lifes, not too unlike socializing IRL, without being subject to a severe lack of empathy/sympathy from other users, like I've seen here for a while.

It isn't about too many joke posts. Having fun is a part of life. Hell, you guys know me, I can post random things sometimes when it's relevant, that's no problem. It's about Raiden's "anarchy" approach to that. The point of SMWCentral is to post things about SMW-Hacking, but it branches off into other types of hacking and not only that, but also accommodates general discussion. Look at this less like a country where everyone doesn't have much obligation to do anything except for what is forced by law, and look at this much more like a group of close friends hanging out somewhere and talking about their life one to another.

This is an unrelated post, but it helped me clear my head. I feel like Raiden was posting what he did before because he felt the staff was forcing their views too much on the users, which might or might not have been true (too lazy to think about that right now). But an anarchy where the staff can't do anything to organize users would just create another problem.

OK, this community has >1000 users, so naturally some people are going to create "mini-groups" of close friends here and there, but overall behaviour should stay the same. What if me and my family walked into a restaurant, with a lot of overall nice people around, but then one guy on the corner decides to cut off our conversation saying a lot of bullshit, and the owner says he can't do anything because he has the freedom to talk about whatever the hell he wants, even if he's intruding the conversation and overall being an idiot. If he kept it to himself, or if he decided to be sensitive about the conversation, or if the owner just kicked him out because he was causing too much trouble, problem solved.

the avoidance of excess or extremes, especially in one's behavior or political opinions.

If none of that happens, the family would probably just walk away from the restaurant. In the context of SMWC I think that it would just encourage the further split of SMWCentral into minor and minor groups of friends and overall more and more separation and circlejerks/echo chambers like Torchkas was trying to say (weird enough, him kinda contributing to that, whenether he was aware of it or not), until it completely dissolves, not too unlike what happened to Acmlm's Board many times. I don't think that's what most people want.

Wasn't disconnection from other users one of the main problems over here? I could swear people talked about this before.

THE ENTIRETY OF THIS POST IS MY OPINION AND ONLY MINE, BASED ON WHAT I'VE SEEN, EXPERIENCED, BEEN TOLD AND/OR BELIEVE, UNLESS COINCIDENTALLY IT IS ALSO YOURS. I'M NOT TRYING TO FLAME OR DISRESPECT ANY OTHER USERS, I'M JUST TRYING TO UNDERSTAND HOW LIFE WORKS. I AM A HUMAN BEING, I AM NOT PERFECT AND I CAN CHANGE. MISINTERPRETAION ON MY PART CAN EASILY HAPPEN. MISCOMMUNICATION CAN ALSO EASILY HAPPEN. PLEASE KEEP THAT IN MIND.

If people are less complete assholes to each other and encourage less circlejerks, and overall are more empathic/sympathethic to each other, that would probably solve all of this. Not that I'm saying most of the community is like this, it's just, things and stuff and logic and happening spaces all around the Mario Party board. I'm tired and sleepy right now, give me a break.

OK. Not gonna lie, there was a time writing this post where I had a complete brain reboot, like, for a while I couldn't remember what I was doing. Welp, that's fun. Are there any new videos to watch? ...oooh! A new "Super Mario 64: 4 Player Versus" video! Want! Want! Want! OK, let's watch it, there's no way I'm missing that!
I honestly think this will never happen. I just see things getting more worse or just slightly less worse.

Why is this still even a thing?

There were garbage threads before the policy was put up, now we're just not putting them in the trash can, or at least that's what I've observed.

Why are garbage threads such a horrible thing anyway? If you don't like a thread then don't post in it, why does it have to be a huge deal?
Perhaps it has to do with people in the community wanting to have some sort of serious discussion and a set of standards, rather than say having shitposts everywhere?

It does not matter anyway to me anyone - I think it would be better if I stick only to forum games.

If you see a shitpost, ignore it. Why do people have to make a big deal out of it? Besides, there was shitposting before the new policy, why is it a problem now?
I honestly think a lot of people from this thread as well as this other thread already answered that in their many posts, and answering your question here would probably just spark that debate again. To avoid doing that, I'd advise you to reread some posts to get a general idea of why it was a problem to a lot of people.

I think it's partially an "image" thing. The staff mainly and some longtime users, would prefer that our forum not have so much in the way of shitposting that people begin to look down on the whole userbase, and eventually the entire site as whole. Sure, joke posts are good, they keep things upbeat and fun, but posting pointless bullshit just makes the forums more difficult to deal with, and more difficult to truly engage in. Some people want more intelligent conversations in certain circumstances instead of people just posting random garbage in order to get their post count up.

That being said, I hope we can find a happy medium between serious discussion, and the occasional funny post, without being reduced to straight up "shitposting."

I don't really care about the image (when it's just about silly image posts), I just don't want to open a thread eager to read some words and see fucking nothing 20 times a day.
Your layout has been removed.
leod's post is pretty much how I feel. But I'm glad we have had discussion here amongst both the general userbase and the staff team. I'm sure we'll come to a more elegant solution in the near future.

There will be people who are gonna look down on the userbase no matter what you do, but I can see how spam would annoy people. I've just never really had a problem with it, guess I let my ego get in my way again. #w{:s}
Same goes for me, never have been extremely concerned about "useless" posts. But I can clearly see where some people are coming from in their dislike of them.

I don't mind that kind of posting spam.
