Is it true?

Are the results finally out?

Is the staff not actually corrupt?

HERE ARE THE RESULTS!

For the lazy, the top 3 placements are:

1st - Lightvayne
2nd - Quizler
3rd - superdragonyoshi1

Congratulations to the winners! As you can see, the rankings were extremely close! We'll be contacting you shortly to work out the details for the real-world prizes (thanks again, Todd).

I do apologize for the delay in getting these results out to you. If I'm running any more contests like this, I'll make sure we avoid getting into another situation like this one.
tfw didn't win

jk, congrats guys, it was fun to make the level ^^

also let's never put k3fka in charge of a contest again
Phew, first half at least. But I'm fine with my rank. Congrats to Lightvayne, Quizler and superdragonyoshi1. :D

9th place just like how there are 9 dragon balls.
Fug so close :D:D:D:D:D:D
Congrats to winners 8>

Btw I haven't touched Mario Maker since I made that level. I should play it more sometimes (but obviously lunar magic is better).
tfw an admin got 1st place and my level got third to last place
Damn.... congrats to Quizler and superdragon Yoshi1. We know Lightvayne cheated and secretly threatened to demote and ban the staff if he didn't win first, anyway.

Is there any place we can read comments on the levels? I'd like to see where I could have improved in my level.

ed: o i didnt see the tabs oops!
Good job, everyone!

I spent lots of time the last five minutes researching how to send out eShop games to our winners. Here's the deal:

- You need to send me an e-mail with your name on SMWC, your rank, and what you wish for a prize. Please note that the prize must be available on the Nintendo eShop. You may find my email address on my profile page.
- You will receive a download code for your requested prize(s).
- If there are technical difficulties preventing me from sending you a download code (it happens), fear not! We'll chat by e-mail, and if I have to arrange for the games to be physically shipped to you, such is an option.

- If you don't want the specified prizes for your place, you may request an item from the eShop at a value of:

1st Place: $60-$70
2.d Place: $30-$40
3rd Place: $15-$20

Research shows online download codes can be purchased from Nintendo directly or (apparently) from Amazon. If the prize-winners wanted to be super-nice, they could look online and e-mail me links to the items they chose.

Again congratulations to all the winners!

there are tabs on the bottom of the screen that allow you to see judge comments

(insert comment asking about what kind of hallucinogens ninja boy does while scoring levels)

I don't know how serious you are about this, but I want to make it clear there's nothing personal going on here. As judges, we independently decided upon scores and two of us independently were unable to complete your level. ninja boy did give some comments on it if you check his tab, though.

It was 0% serious but thanks for clearing it up anyway ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

*dances*

Honestly, I hadn't had the chance to play any of the other levels, so I was almost certain there was at least someone who did better then me. I was a bit worried that the boss battle would have been too hard and wasn't sure if it was common knowledge that yoshi could eat of the fireballs and spit them back out. Either way, I'm happy that it didn't destroy my ranking because of it.

Congrats to everyone else too. ^_^

7th? That's pretty much exactly what I was expecting with something I rushed to completion hahaha

EDIT: It sounds like none of you really understood the coins that well? Yeah, they weren't necessary, they just let Lucas go through the door at the end of the level, which triggers that "heavenly" effect. I built it interpreting it as "oh, lucas died and went to be with his mom", for that kind of "wow how dare you cross the line" type of humor.

FUN FACT: You're basically supposed to get all the coins through the pipe, hit the P-Switch, and go back to the start to get the Magical Flying Shoe unsealed, then use that to fly to the right of the start, jumping out at the last possible moment to get to the land across the gap. Then you get the final coin, and by extension, the key. I wish there was objects other than doors that only appear when the P-Switch is on, so you can use them to tell players where to go after pushing it. :/
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
I finished my level and submitted it at the last second (even though I spent a few days before working on it), I just tried to take some fun ideas and stick them into a level. I think second is a pretty good spot! I WISH I could have made my level in the SMW style, but the physics in mario maker are seriously a dishonor to Super Mario World itself.

Also I spent days testing out that boss battle at the end, Bowser is way too random to utilize efficiently in a level, but I think I got him to a point where he doesn't flip out. Sometimes he'll kill himself immediately, but it's pretty rare.

There's something I wish I could improve though. at the end of the level I included a tanooki leaf and a door that returns you to the beginning of the level. I put that in there as a way for players to just have fun because the leaf would make the level too easy. At the last second I thought, "What if I included more secrets in the level that could only be accessed with the leaf?" I thought that was a great idea that gave the door more purpose, but I thought of it LITERALLY 5 minutes before the deadline, so it was too ambitious to implement.

Extra thoughts on some levels that I remember:

At first I was totally scared to play GoldenYoshi's level, just by looking at the contestants I thought he would definitely win by expertise alone. His level was not as mind blowing as I expected. Maybe I was expecting too much, it is just mario maker after all.

There was one level I particularly enjoyed. it was this really easy airship level. It's nothing special, but after playing all the other levels, and doing two puzzle levels that I couldn't even finish, this level was a breath of fresh air. I think it's Dangerous Doomship.

I couldn't find all the red coins in Nimono's level, I ended up finding the flying shoe instead, and then I spent like 30 minutes trying to get the world record, I think I had more fun doing that than actually playing the level.
I did notice the leaf/door thing in your level. I went through the door and was like fuck, why am I back here now? Luckily I just used the leaf to fly back to the end lol.
So, Nintendo is far behind in terms of online convenience. Two things I have learned today:
- They took away the feature allowing you to gift eShop games to other people. They want it to download directly to your own console without the option to email a code to someone.
- Nintendo eShop cards are country-locked. Not just region-locked, but country-locked. This means that the ones I can buy online are only valid in the US.

This is going to complicate me giving out the prizes, but I'll make it work. Somehow.
Lightvayne and Quizler live in the US, so there shouldn't be a problem with them. Not sure about super dragonYoshi.

Here is a thing you could do:

Go here.

And purchase the amount equal to that you want to give the winners and gift it to them. I'm sure the options laid out can amount to the prizes that were mentioned. I'm not entirely sure how the gift itself is done, though. I think a code is sent to them via email?

The website is owned by paypal themselves, so it is safe, as far as I know.
Thanks, but I am in Canada, and my account needs to be US to make the purchase.

K3ka and I are working out some arrangements right now.
That's dumb
How'd you guys let my shitty level get 3rd place lol

Nah JK, and congrats to Quizler and LV for edging me out by a combined total of 3 points.

E: I am US as well
woag.....

(previously superdragonyoshi1. sup yall.)
Well in lieu of winning anything I got some real nice constructive criticism. I actually find it fascinating how poorly it was received (well at least Dr Tapeworm seemed to like it so that's 1 outta 3, lol) as it became my most popular stage amongst another Mario Maker community I play with in terms of comments, stars and feedback. Didn't translate to here though. :P

I think it boils down to knowing your target audience, and if your trying to blaze through 30 contest entries to rate and rank them all I see where a non-linear, exploration focused stage would quickly become frustrating. I've gotten similar feedback on a previous course I did with the same concept but with Pikmin instead of Zelda, I try to not lead the player too much and make them explore on their own and it doesn't click with everybody. Also banking on the player loving Wind Waker as much as I did is a bit of a gamble as well, but it's one of my favorite games of all time so this stage was always something I wanted to make.
