Post Leniency Policy

So there, you guys win. You guys feel free to shit up the place as much as you want. From this point on, The staff is no longer allowed to close, ban, whine, complain about any issue with post quality from any user.

Closing this as your battle has been won. I am removing the ban on DBS after this post.

Go nuts guys. I have enough kids to deal with at home, I shouldn't have to argue with children here too.

As of this moment, the official stance of this policy is stating that staff are giving leniency to the userbase; go nuts. However, as of this moment, there are two forums which are immune to this policy and will continue to be moderated as prior to this new moderating policy.

Work In Progress Forum
Reality Corner
>>> The individual rules of these forums will be upheld. Posting quality will be warned as is subject for ban if moderators' warnings are not upheld. Prior warnings (if given) are still in effect, regardless of when or how long ago they were given.

Regarding all forums, staff will continue to moderate for flaming, NSFW, and is not limited to the listed items. This policy is subject to change with or without notification at any moment by administration.
Well I guess it's not entirely a double-edged sword though.

good rule :D
To be honest if we're going to make exceptions for the WIP forum then why not extending it to every hacking forum whatsoever. Actually I'd be totally ok if this leniency policy was only restricted to the Donut Plains section altogether (except maybe for Creation Corner) because that's where the everyday discussion forums are anyway.
Yeah, sillyposting is fun and all but I don't think anybody really needs or wants it to be allowed in the actual feedback forums, people probably don't show off their hacks or ask for help only to get memes in return.
Your layout has been removed.

I'm sure you'll be making great use of this new rule change.
Yeah, this has been going on for a bit. I think this new moderation approach is going quite well so far. Also fully agree with leaving those two forums the way they were.
I don't think the staff like this new role
Sometimes it's about what the users like, not the staff. Harsh post quality moderation has been a common userbase complaint for quite a while now.
Welp, RIP SMWC 2005-2016

Why would shitposts be allowed in the SMW Hacking Help subforums? That's just fucked up in so many ways. Newbs will try to ask why their ports won't insert and all they'll receive as replies is "check you're cheeri'o's tbh fam :^)"

It's fine for the rest, I guess. It'll be exactly like before, except that threads won't close down prematurely.
To me it just seems like this has not been well thought out and got posted too quickly. Of course there's forums other than these two where shitposting should not be tolerated.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Well the common sense solution is that where a proper reply is expected there is a no shitpost policy.

SMWCentral used to work like this ages ago, where posters who didn't understand when or what was an appropriate reply would get warned then banned. I don't understand why common sense would suddenly be more scarce than before.
I don't understand where people seem to get the idea that if shitposting is tolerated even a little, then suddenly that's going to be what every single post is. Sure, you see more posts of the 'shit variety' in forums like "General Discussion", but when it comes to the forums where people actually want to receive help or feedback, then the quality of posts there really haven't dropped any noticeable degree. I'm almost hesitant to say this—but most people here seem to have some sort of idea of where it's okay to shitpost and where you should actually put some thought into what you post.

There are a few exceptions to this; of course, but bad apples will be bad apples.
Maybe this thread is one of those 'shit-posts' and it's self-demonstrating. If I ever had a pressing question to ask in a help thread only to be met with Freedom Planet memes and Bee Movie scripts, then I'd think the staff that came up with this must be a bunch of chain smoking idiots and SMWC's reputation would plummet faster than a Yoshi into a bottomless pit. If I was still staff, I would continue to moderate those as if it was before this came into effect.

Even if you meant to imply that 'shit posts aren't allowed in help threads' either, that should have been clearer.

That would be hilarious, however unlikely.
also tbh I don't think SMWC's reputation is relevant, we're mostly a secluded userbase
I don't think that policy should apply anywhere outside of general discussion and forum games.

Mostly true, but it always helps to be cautious.

100% in agreement

I completely agree with this. The Works In Progress forum and the Reality Corner are definitely not the only places where shitposting shouldn't be tolerated.

I really wish we could go back to this then, rather than "tagging" where "shitposting" is allowed and where it isn't.
I've been feeling a lot lately that we need less written rules and more common sense, but forum moderation itself seems to be going pretty fine regardless of rather unecessary (imo) ongoing discussion in threads like this one.

I agree. I've noticed that most of the "oldbies" seem to think that the old SMWC used to be a lot better than it is now, and it also seems to be the case that idiots who couldn't use common sense were banned far more often and for stricter things as well. Now the staff are being far more tolerable about all this, and look at what's happening to the site.
