Gather up your loved ones, gather up your friends, cuz this is when the bad guy, the bad guy wins.
Yay, you committed genocide and became an omnicidal maniac. but 100% completion is worth all that, right? How can you live with yourself after this? I hope you'll be thinking about this as you wash the whatever pixels on a computer screen have instead of blood off your hands.

I guess that is the point of the genocide run.

So I finally gave in and started it about a week ago. Yesterday I beat the game, at the true pacifist ending, which was quite satisfying.

I also backed up my above-mentioned playthrough's file, and started a genocide run, but I quickly gave up, I just couldn't do it. So I cheated and messed with the configuration files, putting me right at the battle with
Sans
, and holy fuck. Like, seriously? This fucking fight seems impossible. I'm still trying but I just can't beat this guy. Talk about driving in the point that you deserve it for going through with being a heartless, murderous asshole that kills everything in their path (but what happens when you choose to spare him is hilarious, especially with the sped-up dog song playing instead of the normal game over theme)

And I did spoil myself a bit on genocide, I'm curious who this Chara person is, and what his/her origin is. Why is he/she such an evil person that wants to destroy humanity or something? Why does s/he sometimes seem to have demonic red eyes? I don't understand this character or their motives at all, or even if they were ever explained, which I don't think they were.

(Oh, and, regardless of what anyone thinks of the game in general, you can't deny that the music is awesome)
sans
isn't super difficult once you get the patterns down. granted, that might take you a few days, but to me the satisfaction of finally beating
sans
was greater than
watching the world get destroyed
, other people might not think the same way though

also, the fight is pretty much impossible unless you stock up on good healing items (burgerpants' shop before the CORE is the best place to do that)

i found
undyne the undying
to be less difficult but still frustrating. might be worth seeing if you can kill
undyne
before taking on
sans

iirc they weren't explained

which, on one hand, opens the door for a lot of interpretation. on the other, an omnicidal 8-12 year old bent on the destruction of the world would have been an interesting source of backstory for the game itself rather than some sans-obsessed 8y/o's fanfic

Chara is basically the stand-in name for the first human (the person you name at the start of the game). The only explanation given for their motives is what Asriel tells you if you go back to the first room of the game after achieving the Pacifist ending.
Haven't played the game yet, but hey. This looks pretty amazing and it looks OFF THE HOOK, and doing positive actions in an RPG looks pretty unusual but cool. The bullet board battles reminded me of Touhou, where you can dodge bullet patterns in order to win the "battle". And the music looks amazing—it sounded like chiptunes mashed with other instruments. Heck, K-Zone Philippines had a reader review (from the June 2016 issue) of it. You might better check it out for yourself.

Even though I've had some SMW ports of
Spider Dance

Bergentrückung + ASGORE

Bonetrousle
,
Megalovania
, and
Your Best Friend
in my hard drive.

so, uh, i haven't actually played the game in a while. but i wrote up this massive wall of text review.

the plot is definitely first and foremost in undertale. you can tell there's a lot of effort put into making the characters relatable, the situation conceivable, and the world immersive. the music isn't bad either, but it still takes a step to the side compared to the plot.

the gameplay, however, is where the game starts to falter.

the normal battles get extremely repetitious no matter how you do them. you have 3 options: attack, spare, and run. attacking is pretty boring, sparing is basically navigating a menu and using trial and error to find the right order, and running means you escape the battle immediately, 100% chance, no sparing or fighting. attacking is discouraged, and sparing is encouraged. but the issue with that is that neither of them is a particularly engaging endeavor. you have a choice of timing your attack, or navigating menus. while the battle system might seem novel at first, after a while just dodging bullets gets a little boring with nothing to shake it up.

of course, there IS something to shake it up - the boss battles. the first one is just the same you've been dealing with (except you literally can't die), but the second battle introduces a new mechanic you have to adjust to and learn to deal with. most of the remaining boss battles are the same way, but there's a major missed opportunity. these new mechanics are never used again. here was this open door to give certain normal enemies mechanics the player now knows about and...it never happens. i can understand a concern that it would be difficult to get two monsters' attack patterns to work well if your SOUL is affected by gravity, but the game DOES do subtle changes to monster attack patterns when there is more than one monster to make it more manageable. it's honestly disappointing.

granted i kinda spoiled myself about the game a bit before i played but i really think the battles could have been way more interesting, if the author actually expected the player to do more than one playthrough (which should have been the case, many of the requirements for a true pacifist run are cryptic, there are lots of "neutral" endings available depending on what you do throughout the entire game, and the game is actually very short). you could say that gameplay is not the most important thing in an rpg but it's still a pretty major factor, i mean how many of you enjoyed ffiv

oh and most of the overworld graphics are super lame but lol who cares about that
Also toby released beta soundtracks

depends on what you're looking at

the overworld graphics are horrible but the enemy battle stuff is ok
Yeah, the graphical quality in this game is so irregular. I guess it's because stuff like the intro was drawn by temmie the pro artist, and other stuff like the ruins was drawn by toby the guy who just wanted to make an earthboundish game.
But this game isn't beloved for its graphics anyways, which is a trait I like; shows that in video games, the looks aren't everything.
The graphics are supposed to look like that... Nes-y.

Anyways it is a decent game

Huh, no one's posted in this thread here, but recently, the game is about to be released on Nintendo Switch sometime this year. I'm pretty sure to let you know about this, but please leave those UT-related salt on the door.

Finally, UNDERTALE has finally made it's way to the Nintendo Switch this year, and, of course, it has been released (for sure)!!

Stay determined, fellow kids!

Anybody here play Deltarune yet? It's looking to be a pretty fantastic followup to Undertale.
