What/Who sparked your interest in kaizo hacking?

Kaizo

I'm not entirely sure what got me into kaizo hacking exactly, but I've been inspired by a lot of people over the years. I was really inspired by JustinTAS's (SoulJester726/TheFinalBoss726) works in my early days of hacking. Later on I got inspired by Sokobansolver's hacks (mainly the original Mario Must Die). Now I'm mostly inspired by Sokoban, TheAbusefreakhacker0, and a few others inbetween (ft029 has come up with some really cool stuff).
worldpeace and his C|C hack, basically. When his updates became less and less frequent, I decided I might as well contribute, hence the final stages of my first 2 Kaizo hacks being loosely inspired by Forky. Eventually I found myself not consciously trying to be inspired by anyone in particular.
As for maintaining interest, that's kinda been a roller coaster. Item Abuse 3 has kinda helped with that. Then another boost of interest happened when it sucked away whatever small interest I might have had in regular hacking, like a Pokemon using leech life.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot worldpeace. The dude is a god.
The original kaizo series and the other weirdo hacks ProtonJon played.
Back then I already made Kaizo Levels just for fun (Munchercastle 1 No Name Hack), but after I lost my first channel and then the second channel on Youtube, I had no desire to Kaizohacking.

Someday I found Sokoban and worldpeace on YouTube and thought to myself why I'm not doing something like that ?

Yes Sokoban and Worldpeace are my biggest inspirations, MMD / C|C are masterpieces. PangaeaPanga and Katerpie is also one of the reasons why i started with Kaizohacking.

Too bad that Panga has canceled SMW Hack - World of Pain

I have many plans.
I was, firstly , inspired by the original kaizo mario's creator. But other kaizo hackers have inspired me too. These hackers are: Gbreeze, TAFH (TheAbuseFreakHacker66) and Sokobansolver. Undertaker had some influence too. (Is my English correct? I don't know what I'm writing)
TheAbuseFreakHacker66 ? You mean 99
Thanks for the compliment. But this picture shows the truth:

I made my own based on what I thought of off the top of my head, tho I might have over-simplified it.

Yes, what about Pandora's Box?

I'm actually really flattered by this.

This was just a small, quick diagram with a general laconic concept, not really intended to be an encompassing database. There may be some hacks I wouldn't know 100% if they were inspired by anything in particular. I think a much bigger tree would be beyond the scope of this thread and too ambitious (could be an interesting art project).

Anytime I feel even remotely responsible for a thread going off on a tangent, I always regret it. I'm sorry for doing that here.

I gotta be unoriginal and say C|C lol. That mushroom-juggling sequence made me inspired to make puzzles of that insanity. It's hard to say if I ever truly accomplished that, but maybe I'll come back for a final Kaizo one-leveler and do what I always wanted.

A lot of people got me into Kaizo hacking over the years, such as worldpeace and Sadistic Designer, and also AzureBlade49's LPs. I was so fascinated with how the creators can think of creative usages for objects and sprites in harder ways and even whipped up an equivalent to Forky once, but I later dropped it. Looking back at it nowadays, I would say that it (as in, the level I made) lacked a lot of originality, and I went on to make a series of projects that went nowhere after releasing their demos (as of this moment, I'm secretly creating a hack that I presume will feature no inspiration whatsoever from any people in particular, and I hope it actually goes anywhere, but it depends on how motivated I am).

Right now, maintaining interest has been kinda mixed due to that. When I watch videos of upcoming hacks - no matter what genre they fit in - it comes back, but then it becomes more trouble than it's worth putting the ideas on paper and it ceases almost completely.

Yeah that looks pretty accurate to me! :D

Well, obviously my Kaizo hacks are inspired by the original Kaizo Mario World. My pit hacks were all inspired by Item Abuse.

Actually, the way I was first introduced seriously to kaizo and inspired to make my own stuff was by Dainegai and Panga like 6-7 years ago. Dainegai's TASes of item abuse and pit of despair really intrigued me, and resulted in me figuring out that they were not in fact single playthroughs, but tool-assisted movies. I had seen the Kaizo series before that, but it never awed me enough I guess to get me interested.

Now, most of my inspiration comes directly from the original three Kaizo hacks.
