Ruben_'s pit hack

Hey, I was a member here some years ago, probably noone remembers me, but my name back then was Galinaceo.

Some days ago I started working on a new hack, for which I don't have a name yet. Difficulty will be something between hard kaizo and pit. All I have now is a screenshot of the first level, but more will be added soon:
Looks impossible so far unless you're supposed to tank through everything.

Also I don't like the palette that much but that's just my opinion.

I think it might be possible with the help of some sick TAS tricks, but the muncher placement does make it look quite impossible.

Also, that palette is pretty ugly. Try using colors that actually go together and don't clash.

Are you invincible? None of this looks remotely possible, regardless of your direction of travel.
I assume the tide rises, or else it is impossible.
As for the palette, try using a gradient for the foreground, as it is, it looks really bad. Level design looks pretty uninspired, but it would help to get more screenshots :) looking forward to more!
Yes, actually is impossible, I forgot to change a muncher when editing. I actually thought the pallete looked good, maybe I just have bad taste xD, but I'll change it. Anyway, thanks everyone for feedback, I'll try to be more creative and make better pallete.

Edit: new pallete and fixed to be possible (also, in the message box sprite there's a muncher if you don't see):

The palette looks significantly better now. I would also change the sky from brown to blue, and then it would look even better.

As far as the level design goes, it's okay to start with muncher jumps but remember that sprites are always better than munchers. If you can make an enemy an obstacle instead of a muncher, do it. It would de a lot more creative if you had to jump on a spiny in the beginning or dodge a pokey, instead of "jump through the munchers". Spamming munchers is a way to artificially and lazily increase the difficulty and definitely does not make for a fun hack.

Also, I believe it is still impossible.
The palette seems better now, but I'm truly sure that segment still looks nearly impossible to do at its current state unless you get a powerup somehow, and even if it was possible, it would require a lot of slowdown to cross that gap and avoid getting hit by the baseballs. And what the above poster said sums pretty much my thoughts on the matter, so I wish you good luck with this hack!

Small update, I changed the palette a bit, more beautiful sky and darker dirt. I got idea of making a "flood" level, starts with low tide room , then high tide and finally underwater. I changed the first screen quite a bit and took me 2 hours to test but it's possible, hopefully tomorrow I can make preview video with more screens. Also you need to not hit the chuck, you'll need to follow baseball for later part of the level.

(the NO block kills you, outlined blocks are invisible coin blocks and it's low tide slippery level).
Looks much better than before! However, I don't understand the point of the slippery physics or the tide. Hopefully they can be put into good use (or be removed altogether).
Looking much better now, although while it still seems nearly impossible, at least it has been dumbed down a bit.
The palette doesn't give the impression of a slippery level, however; I'll wait to see how you're going to explore those physics.

I have a very short preview of what will be the first level. The one I showed before will be the second level instead. Sorry for showing so few stuff, but I'm not very experienced at smw and progress is slow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPX1JZzi8xY&feature=youtu.be

This will be a easier, more of a puzzle level. I hope you like it.

Also, just me or is smwcentral very slow lately?

It's looking pretty interesting so far. I can't wait to see more!

SMWC also felt pretty slow for me earlier.

Neat stuff there. Is there some way to make it more challenging for Mario just to feed that Yoshi?

Also VLDC9 judging is in progress, that's why this site is so slow I think
Thanks all, I'm glad you like it. @ft029 I agree that the yoshi feeding part is a bit boring, I'll think of how to change it.

Also surprised noone complained about the floating munchers xD

Was just about to say that all those flunchers look pretty ugly, but as a level it seems pretty solid so far.
If a level is still in its development stage, floating munchers are not a problem. I honestly don't care about them unless they're used without purpose.
Overly decent level for a pit hack. I have no clue as to what the differently colored dotted blocks are supposed to do; I suggest you don't place them there just for the sake of being "there", because they should mean something for the level, but they don't take much from the experience otherwise.
