Kaizo Levels: Yes/No

Link Thread Closed
Pretty straight forward, do you want kaizo?

POLL LINK
Voted no because I think they don't fit well with the rest of the collab hack difficulty-wise. If they are included, do not make them necessary for any sort of 100% completion reward.
Just insert a goal sphere at the beginning for levels that people deem too difficult. Some of them are extremely creative.
No. This isn't a Kaizo level design contest. Wrong contest, kaizo hackers!

Don't make them count for completion, but still put them in

Also: Wow, Falconpunch. Some people like myself can't help but add challenging aspects to our levels. Of course, if it's like MarioYOLO then disqualify it, but if you look at morsel's or Lazy's, it's not that bad and have extremely creative stuff in it. For instance, using tile 1CC to slow down the blue koopa and all of the good layer 2 stuff is amazing.
@Falconpunch: I don't think you need to be so aggressive and insulting about it...
The only kaizo level that should be dqed is minakami/nambona890's level, because was made by a permabanned rereg, the rest can have a goal sphere/point at the start or a warning

I didn't say theirs as Kaizo at all. All I see as Kaizo is minakami's, the rest are basically just too hard, but not kaizo.

I want this 'all "kaizo" is bad' meme to end.

In other words yes.
While I want them to be included with goal spheres in the beginning because some of them apparently are creative (I wouldn't know, I haven't played any of the levels) and it's nice for them to be there for people who like that kind of stuff, I voted disqualify because I much prefer that option out of the two extremes, since the aforementioned middle ground doesn't exist.

fuck kaizo tbh

We also had jshaa's level, that was really hard and cramped, i had to cheat only to pass the first part.

Weird though, the title is "Kaizo levels: Yes/No"

if Jack can specify what are the levels in question that might help.
I agree. Morsel and Lazy's levels aren't kaizo, they just have extreme difficulty. There's a huge difference.

Which levels define as "Kaizo" exactly, besides Morsel and Lazy?

Why not "yes but goal sphere"? That's what we did for ConfirmSMW's entries the past 2 years.

Also what do we classify as Kaizo here? If we're going to talk about disqualifying Kaizo outright we should figure out exactly what Kaizo is in the first place. Are we talking Variety Path "difficulty" and harder or is the minimum difficulty even higher?
If you put a goal sphere at the beginning of the level, then yes.

I would also like the kaizo levels to be specified.

*I got ninja'd twice
I personally don't think that Kaizo levels would fit in the VLDC all too well.

Isn't it like creating an automatic level for the VLDC? It's probably a bad comparison, I don't know what to think... #tb{:(}

I voted disqualify
As a person whose level is almost certainly one of the ones in question, I don't particularly care what happens to it in terms of placement - disqualify it, bury it for difficulty, whatever - so long as it doesn't get outright cut from the compilation if you guys who are compiling it can help it. There is always an audience for these things, and just making it optional accomodates that audience while not forcing everyone else to play it.

Personal feelings aside, one can't really absolutely define the line between "hard" and "too hard"; it's all relative to one's own skill level and tolerance for challenge. For the purposes of a contest you could work with the definition of "all the judges agree it's too hard" I suppose, but inevitably there'd be dissenting opinions on the matter. If you guys don't mind that then fair enough, but it's a thing.

All that said though:

Should the VLDC9 insert Kaizo Levels or disqualify them from the project for breaking the "Not too hard" rule

Unless I'm missing something there is no such rule. I see mention of not making your level too easy or too hard in the scoring, and I see mention that levels can be removed or made optional at the discretion of the team working on the hack for such reasons as "too long or frustrating" or "you had toast for breakfast", but I see no mention of complete disqualification from the contest for difficulty.
