Because it isn't really my level and the section you have a problem with was literally one of the only parts actually kept. I'm not sure why I even included it with no intention of being dishonest about things. I guess if it came to "this", it would just be another "aterraformer level that he couldn't finish properly so lolyoshi did it for him" level. Instead, I was veinly hoping someone would find my shit design decent enough to criticize it for improvements. It was dumb of me.

You know what, I was being a dipwad before. Even if I didn't like the level I still shouldn't have just dismissed it.

So, to make up for that, here's an *actual review* that isn't just "lol it sucks donkey nuts".




This level is, frankly, heavily flawed. I'm unable to complete it because of a lot of things about it make it feel like it should be easy, but it isn't anyway.


Great. The level starts and immediately the only powerup in the level throws itself into a pit.

Please like...move it or replace it with an actual mushroom block, it just feels like a tease. "Oh hey you want a power up? SCREW YOU! Say goodbye!"


Sometimes I'm able to make this jump, sometimes I can't. I'd say remove the first bone or maybe rework this section altogether.


The muncher that these platforms are near killed me the first time I played it, I'd remove it since it doesn't serve much of a purpose anyway.



Speaking of this platform, I have only gotten past this muncher once. Either make the jump less demanding or get rid of the muncher, it just feels like a cheap shot and is the entire reason why I can't review the rest of the level.

It's also not very cohesive. From what I can play, you've got piranha plants, diggin' Chucks, swoopers, moving rock platforms, and rotating platforms without really building on any of them. You don't introduce a single concept and base the level around it, it just feels like a select few things used once or twice.

I might be missing something from not being able to play the second half, but I don't feel like digging up some Game Genie codes just to play the rest of a level I don't particularly enjoy.

So, uh, I'm on the wall here. You can either fix those problems or just abandon it, I don't know, your choice. But sorry for being such a callous gristle-brain, hopefully some *actual constructive criticism* will make up for that, best of luck in the future.
So what's the deal with the level actually? There's not a problem if lolyoshi made the level, and you can continue it if you want; however if you feel like not working on this as it is then you can scrap it and start over.
I'm going to pretty much keep what I had for that original video and completely change the rest, unless anyone disagrees.

I'm taking the review into consideration, removing some of the unnecessary crap and extending it a little. Trying to keep it a tad more simpler, if that is even possible for me. Hopefully I'll have a new test out soon and if there aren't enough issues, I'll submit.

Here's my first "complete" submission. Feel free to suggest changes. I'm pretty attached to the beginning of the level though hopefully a particular section will work better for everyone who is not me now.

whoa, it's definitely an improvement. Challenging but fun.
One part that I found kinda annoying was this jump:

The fact that you have to keep spinjumping in that chuck rock while waiting for the platform is kind of boring.

Also the mushroom can be hard to grab sometimes, depending on where you fall. It has a kind of wonky interaction where sometimes you touch it but you don't grow up.

As its now I would only modify that jump. Good work

Thanks. I was thinking about that too. Probably since I never really jumped on the rock. It was always a mixture between mere decoration and an alternate path. I actually only really got the mushroom for the first time earlier today. It was always a bit of a troll thing. I should do something about that. I think for the rock though, I'll just move the muncher up a tile of 2 so with a power up, you don't have to do a sliding duck underneath to not wait.

The part where you have to fall through the floor with the rope killed me the first time I encountered it. There's very little room for error when it comes to jumping off of it. Might be worth looking for a way to make it a little less prone to cheap deaths.

Other than that, the last two obstacles were pretty demanding as well. First time I reached the 3 platforms circling nothing I got killed by the first muncher, and you have barely any time to react to the two rocks tumbling down the last slope in the level.

Other than that, it's definitely far more enjoyable (and possible). I'd say maybe fix some of the errors Erik and I mentioned and you might be good to go.
I took into consideration all the criticism and hopefully it plays a bit better now. I'm still a bit stumped on the first mushroom and the rope through floor drop without completely changing/nerfing the sections. Like I said, I'm a little attached to the stupid unintentional troll mushroom. I guess it's because I'm the author and mush like the section with the moving rocks and bullet shooter, always works out the same for me. So I don't know.
