Slowly but surely chipping away at this first section. I'm using the autoscroll setting from the first part 6-5 in the original game.

First sublevel is basically finished. Decided to ditch the transition into 3D stone so I could work with fewer limitations. New screens:

Are there any obstacles around there? It's World 5, so you'd kinda expect there to be more to a room than just the stretchy long ghost!
Your layout has been removed.
It's a transitioning room, plus the spriteset featuring that ghost is very limited. It carries the player to two other rooms to get keys.

Speaking of which, here's one of those rooms.




Taking some direct cues from Golden Yoshi's work here. The player needs to go across the gap to collect the key and run back as a Chomp Shark chases them. I've added some coins and Baron von Zeppelins to this room since taking these shots.


EDIT 2: Actually, turns out that that the maces combined with the ghost cause horrific lag when Yoshi has a lot of eggs, so I'm ditching them.
That looks cool. This last room looks very creative.

EDIT: Turns out there's another sprite set I could use with the platform ghost, so I'm adding some other sprites to that room.

Completely redesigning sublevel AF because I wasn't happy with how it was turning out.

Here's an ips.

Door to the cave/super star segment is blocked off at the moment while I try to work out the design.

Currently the level contains two flowers and 11 red coins.
Cool level so far, loved the foam sections w/ autoscroller, was creative.

Only "issue" I saw maybe was that there's kind of no hint that there's a fire melon to the left of the key...I mean I suppose when you see the ice blocks it's obvious there must be a fire melon somewhere to break them, and that may be the obvious location, but I personally had to go back to that area like an idiot :P

How's this for a hint?
ooh nice use of background, subtle but effective. that should do.
