Case Closed

I am currently fascinated with this truly great detective anime. Staring on 1994 they still continue to make new episodes (there are currently 554 episodes) of this show TO THIS DAY!

Quick summary of the plot

Jimmy Kudo, a 17-year-old high school prodigy and detective who frequently worked with the police, was attacked by two members of a mysterious crime syndicate while investigating a case regarding blackmail. He was then forced to take a newly developed experimental poison that was supposed to kill him, but due to a rare side-effect unknown to the two men, the drug transformed his body back into that of his seven-year-old self instead, after they left him for dead. In order to hide his identity and investigate the whereabouts of the syndicate, which he later finds out is called the Black Organization, he adopts the pseudonym Conan Edogawa. To search for leads to the syndicate, he manages to move in with his childhood friend Rachel Moore, whose father Richard Moore works as a private investigator. He also enrolls at Teitan elementary school and forms the Junior Detective League with three other children in his class; Amy, Mitch, and George. Even as Conan, Jimmy continues solving criminal cases, usually posing as Richard Moore with the help of special gadgets, invented by a friend of his parents who is a scientist. Richard Moore, a rather inept detective, is bewildered at the sudden rise in his case-solving abilities, but does not question this as he is more than glad about his subsequent rise in fame.

There have been 13 movies and 2 spin-offs I think. And a number of games have been made for him, yet the most exciting news about it is that one is coming for the Wii to be released in NORTH AMERICA :D on Dec 31, 2009.

So are there any other detective conan fans? Opinions of the show, favorites of any gadgets of his? (I personally love the solar-powered skateboard)
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
I've seen all episodes from 309 up to 548 in japanese with german subs, I couldn't find the earlier episodes in japanese though, the german ones suck because they're censored and totally butchered. Though I've seen a few ones when I was younger. I wanted to import the DVD's from Japan but damn are those fucking expensive.
Also I've seen 12 movies. Too bad I can't find numero #13 on the net anyhwere. Seems like subbing comes along slowly.

In the Manga I'm at #24 right now, the current count is somewhere around 65.

The american names totally bother me. XD
In Germany and Japan, the names are:

Jimmy Kudo = Shinichi Kudo
Richard Moore = Kogoro Mori
Rachel Moore = Ran Mori

Dunno about the rest. :P
It's certainly my most favorite Anime because it was the first one I've ever seen in my life and finally took it up again not too long ago only to realize that I missed like 400 episodes. Gōshō Aoyama surely does a good job up to today.
You know, you could see the earlier episodes via google video (search "Case Closed episode # 1/3) however, it's English dubbed. You're lucky you are able to understand the show in Japanese dubs, it probably flows much better than the translated English, or is there no significant difference.

How are the movies? Do you need to watch them to understand the development of the show's plot?

Err no, I watched the japanese episodes with german subs. As for the films, they have their completely own stories without any connection to the main series whatsoever.
I should take a look into the english versions, as long as the episodes aren't censored, I'd be fine with that aswell.

Edit: Oh, just noticed the horribly wrong worded sentence. Whoopsie! XD
I saw this on Adult Swim a couple years ago. I loved it. I was disappointed when they stop showing it. They still make episodes of this? That is amazing! I might get around to watch all of the latest ones if I get the incentive. Of the few episodes I watched, it was great and very interesting.

Also, how would a Case Closed game work? Would it be an RPG or what?
Your layout has been removed.
Yes, Case Closed! One of my favourite Animes of all time! Well here in Germany (and pretty much everywhere else) it's actually called "Detective Conan". Here in Germany they aired like... Well... I think around 300 episodes, probably more. However. Recently the channel that aired all the episodes started going all out for youth protection and rarely air any Anime at all (and if they do they are usually heavily cut or not worth being seen anyways). Because of that they also stopped dubbing this Anime alltogether :( . At least the movies are still dubbed and sold on DVDs. I think they dubbed like the first eleven movies already. The movies are really awesome! I'd even go as far and say more awesome then the series. And it really never gets boring. All the movies are in some way or another unique, even if sometimes it feels like you've seen a similiar case before. I really recommend those movies to each fan of the Anime.

Who are your favourite characters by the way? I totally love Heiji Hatori and... What was the other guy's name again... Something with "kid". You know, the Magician in white that looks just like Shinichi. They're awesome!
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Kaito Kid you mean? Yeah, that guy's pretty cool, especially in those specials which come towards episode ~500.
Also, my favorite character probably would be Shuichi Akai (also introduced very late). The episodes involving him are pretty exciting.

Edit: I just checked and the movies on DVD here available are all up to #12, which is by far my most favorite one. Movie #6 felt just... dull for me. It didn't have that usual feeling to it that could suck you into the movie. The rest are really awesome though.
Yes, Kaito Kid. How could I forget his name ._. ?

Anyways I really loved all the movies (some more, some less). I think I haven't watched movies 11 and 12 yet, but I don't know for sure. 7 I'd say was my favourite one (another movie with Heiji) and I liked the stunt at the end of movie 5 (with a car from one tower to another). Well all of the movies had something appealing to them at some point or another. Like movie 2 with the underwater scene with Conan and Ran ;) .

I used to watch this religiously when it was on [adult swim].
I love this show. Although I've only seen about 40 episodes, I really like it. It's a mystery how the writer can come up with a different case for over 500 episodes.
I love this anime very much.
The story is almost finished. and yes it is really very long because there are files episodes and "non-canons episodes".

IF YOU WANT TO WATCH detective conan episodes in high quality (hd) subbed you can use http://kissanime.to/Anime/Detective-Conan

IF YOU WANT THE LIST OF CANON AND NON CANON EPISODES HERE IS THE LINK: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/anime. if you see "TV original" the episode is then non canon episodes.

I have to tell that detective conan is really cool and don't ever watch it dub never never never.
Why does your post sound like something that would come up on google if I typed "Detective Conan watch"?
Anyway, I made my statment here (didn't even notice the double thread) so there you go. I don't dislike the show that much, I learned a bunch of interesting trivia from it, so again, if anyone can give me a list of "plot related episodes" I'll watch it.
Anime statistic on MyAnimeList:
400 animes completed ✓
6000 episodes completed ✓
100 Days completed ✓
... what even am I doing with my life?
sorry but what do you mean by plot related episodes?.
because I already said there are conon-episodes and no-canon episodes.
and I gived a link in my elder post.

Do you mean the most important episodes of the anime?
