To have tiered powerup you can also use Yoshi :
When you have two Yoshi alredy in a level, the third Yoshi egg hatch a powerup, and this powerup will be tiered (mushroom if small mario, flower if big, feather is flowered).
So put two Yoshi eggs and another yoshi egg in a ? block and make sure the two Yoshi hatch before you can hit the ? block.

Another tip: Have free stars and get medals faster.
You know to submit more than 10 levels you need medals/stars. But if you don't want to make automatic level or shill your level everywhere, there's a way to get free stars :
Make a new account in your WiiU, including a new Nintendo network ID
Play Mario Maker in that new account, and once you unlock level play, enter a level code from your main account and from there give a star to all your level.
I dunno if there is a limit on how many account you can have on a wiiU, but even doing this once will give you 10 stars if you made 10 levels.
Well, I've seen an article about the invincibility glitch being patched, although in unpatched copies of the game, you can still make
glitch-abuse based levels, but you are unable to upload them.
When was this? You could still make them less than a day ago.

Fairly recently. I didn't check the date, but I am sure that with a little searching, you could find it. Also, remember that unpatched copies of the game can still make these glitch-abuse based levels, but can't upload them. But, these copies have to be updated if you use any in-game online interaction. I would provide citation, but it is late and I don't remember the article.
Here's a tip may people will be happy to hear:
If you want a certain Amiibo costume in your level but don't own the Amiibo, find a level online that uses the costume(s) you want. Download it and delete everything but the costume(s). Once this is done, you can build your level and use the mystery mushroom however you want! I'm not sure yet if you can upload levels that use this technique, so it's up to you guys to find out, unless I try to upload my level first. #smw{:peace:}

Doesn't work, you cant upload downloaded levels, even if you completely remove everything.

This is actually possible by just using two pipes #tb{:DD} .

You can place one pipe, which is faced up (which will block the way) and place an another pipe over it, which is sideways (the one you want to come out of). Pipes can be placed over each other, without deleting them. Because of the upside up pipe, you can't go through it back.

I used this in my contest level. If you have problems following the instructions, just download it and look in the editor. It's really easy to make #tb{:)} !
