Mario sprite editing help

before I begin, let me just say that I searched the internet for a solution And couldn't find what I was looking for.

My yy-chr drawing skills are a tad better now so I figured I'd give editing Mario's graphics and make a new main character... Ah i tell ya it's alot more complicated than I thought. Since I can't seem to find a tutorial specifically for that (came close but the page no longer exists), I decided to try and address some veterans. I was wondering, if anyone could lend some advice, or good tips, to make editing all these complicated tiles a little simpler. You know, the stuff you wish you knew when you first started out kind of advice. Any help would be appreciated, cause I'd be happy if I could even get a simple stick figure at this point. Thank you for your time.

You extract the graphics #lm{extgfx}
Edit GFX32.bin
Reinsert the graphics #lm{insgfx}
Done

Or do you mean something else?

Nah, I got basic editing skills down, my problem is that Mario's tiles are all over the place. Some share pieces of him! I just need some good advice From someone who is experienced in making a custom player in yychr.

Use Mario Assembler. It assembles Mario's GFX32 and GFX00 tiles for easy editing, and disassembles them for reinsertion.
There's also an image in the Mario Assembler thread showing which of Mario's tiles are shared.
That's awesome! I officially nominate you as Champ of the Week xD thank you very much, I never would've thought to search for something like that
