I improved the hill dithering and changed the ground tiles a bit. I still have to fix some of the banding
;D

no you don't understand. you see, unless those hills are flat pieces of paper angled weirdly, their shading will never have a gradient like that.
visualize a mountain and think of how the shadows would form on it from the top-left. alternatively, get good at stylizing. don't use attributes that suggest shading when you're trying to simplify your shapes. it won't look good
Basically having shading on the mountains is fine, you just can't draw it as horizontal lines because that's not what shading looks like.

allow shy guy emojis in post footers you cowards!
the style you're going for requires the gradient to be a lot smoother. dither it more (you may need more intermediate colors. it may be best not to dither it by hand), or maybe try an hdma gradient instead of a manual one (it'll save you palette space)
you're making mr hill cry

This is a SNES looking Bridge from the from The first Ledgend of zelda:
The Water is is not animated.
Eh?
Thank you all for the feedback!

I completely redid the shading for a more SMAS style
;D

@Z0mbie1337. Its better but the contrast needs to be more apparent with the different shades and tints of green for your hill.

@thesmb3fan, The perspective of the bridge looks horribly out of place for a side-scrolling game. Same with the water background. I suggest you find another graphic or draw your own that can be seen to be an improvement.

Original level do not steal

@Dr. Tapeworm, That looks really nice!

Also could anyone tellme which is better looking?
My my, that level looks so great, I love the way it's laid out. Such a perfect representation of accurate foreground object placement. Mario Maker level builders need to take notes from this Not-105 level. #tb{^V^}

...

I really love the graphics you got here. Bright and cheery! The rocks especially took me aback, you got skillz ma man! Kudos on the grass. Looks amazing. If you were trying to show off a Yoshi Coin you might have made, it's mostly blocked by the status bar sadly.

That looks hella good. And I don't just toss out 'hellas' easily. The palette work is fantastic, if by-the-books, and the texture on the dirt is fantastic. How long did it take you to make that tile nicely, I wonder. There are a number of things that bug me, mainly that the bushes need more depth. Besides that, the slopes look a little off in that they appear lighter than their surroundings and that the shadows the grass cast are inconsistent. There's also some pretty nasty aliasing going on with those rocks.

The thick shading makes it look very YI-esque. I like it!

While I prefer the first one, it looks really grey and dull.
I prefer the first one too, but it looks very flat because there isn't much contrast. @nathanrayman1998
Damn. I love the palette there, makes me jealous. The graphics itself are pretty nice too, great job. @Dr. Tapeworm
Alright I listened to some feedback and hopeful made it look a little better!

Thoughts?
@nathanrayman1998
It looks much better with those new colors, but still looks flat. I think you should try using some more contrasting shadows and lights.

@Dr. Tapeworm
Really cool shading. I love your colors, keep it up.
I actually thought the second one looked better.

Also, Dr. Tapeworm, those graphics seem pretty decent. But the level looks really bland...who'd design something like that?

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
