Touhou Mario 2

Standard

Looking better and better every time I check back!
This has to be on the list of things to play when it comes out.
So remember kids! If you ever get caught having tosave a princess from a foreign land after getting dragged down a drain pipe, jumping while spinning in a circle can help you greatly by allowing you to jump on spinning saw blades, ghosts, and allow you to control your jump better!

The Shining Needle Castle Sinking in the Air.

This one is never meant to be played using the "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth"; most players will not enable the GS banks properly, and the trumpet will cut itself due to high polyphonic demand. Use something like VirtualMIDISynth (with the default GM/GS soundfont converted to a SF2 file) instead.
BUMP

(sorry if this damages the forum, and another sorry if this is considered off-topic) but I found something important and extremly useful: a website that has almost ALL the songs from the ENTIRE touhou series in MIDI format!

Link

To center a font, use this: <;center> <;/center> And remove the semicolons.

(I just pm wakana about it, but I posted here because so that other users that are touhou porters have an easier time making it to smw).
Give thanks to RPG hacker for working on Asar.
Not off-topic at all. I'm very thankful to you for finding that. Sadly, some of the songs I need aren't this great/ aren't included. Still, thanks a lot!
A late thank you to HertzDevil for the MIDI, I've been ill these days so I didn't get the opportunity to port it yet, but I love how it sounds.
As for updates, I hope me and Vitor can get something to show for you on C3, so stay tuned!
Double-post FTW!

Yes, we're back with some updates for you. There is some motivation flowing recently (especially in Vitor =w=) that made some progress, worth showing I believe.

Here, for you, a gif that shows some spells/nonspells of the Extra Stage boss, Nue Houjuu. (WARNING! HUGE .GIF!) If I recall correctly, these should be like the 7th-8th nonspell and spell attacks (ya, means there are 7 other nonspells/spells before this huehuehue).

Showing also some music: the C3 pack, in case someone didn't see it, and also two recent remade ports, Tenshi Hinanawi's theme and one of the OW songs, Touhou 14 Titlescreen theme.

Feedback always appeciated, let me know what you think about what I showed, thanks in advance!

Ps Wakana You Good Make Music Good Job #thp{^_^}

Very interesting stuff. I liked the bullet hell thing, surprisingly looks like it fits well in a SMW mechanics. I just think that the text at the start is a little bit fast to read (it also took me the attention from the bullets), but isn't a big problem at all.
I also saw the black gradient flashing at the bottom. I think it was meant be like that, but I just wanted to say anyway.

I played your fist hack and I must say this one is 2x times better, nice job.
The boss operates smoothly enough, I like its animations: Eevee, I know that's you at work, so good job and related! Now, about the boss, I don't know if recording makes things harder but I do think she needs to be toned down slightly; I see you're getting hit a lot by her attacks, and since your health caries over into the other levels, that isn't too much of a good sign. If the other bosses are similar, something may have to be done about the difficulty: otherwise you'll have savestater's or maybe even rage quitters all together.
(@Boss) Looks super flashy but not very fun at all tbh.
Glad to see more progress on this. #thp{=D}

I think the text that is being shown when switching into different spell card phases is indeed a little too fast to read; I also think the text shouldn't just ''vanish'', but moving out of screen.
It would aesthetical better in my opinion.

Nue however is awesome. :)
I don't think it's too hard, and I'm alright if the difficulty in this hack remains like that, boss fights included.
If it's a mid-boss whatsoeverl please make sure to put in enough energy recoveries for the player to compensate for the damage the player probably received.
It's cool that you can restore your energy by sleeping as well, so I think it's fine the way it is now.

Can't say much about the linked themes whatsoever.
How can I listen to .spc files? #thp{:s}
If I had to put them into a SMW rom, I have no idea how to do that, I know next to nothing about romhacking.

Will be looking forward further updates, glad to see you guys being motivated again, especially Vitor, who seems to have had a tough time not too long ago.
Keep up zhe good work. #tb{:D}

The asm coder has push the SNES hardware's limit.
Give thanks to RPG hacker for working on Asar.
Long time since no updates. Me and Vitor are pretty busy, so sorry for not posting anything since a lot.
I'm going ahead and showing another stage: Suika Ibuki's stage!

The stage takes place in the underground city. Even if it's a kind of underground level, it will be quite athletic. As main gimmick, we used those fancy sprite platforms from SMB3. It's kind of tricky in some sections, but hopefully, if you manage to not be hit too many times, you'll keep the powerup, located in the very beginning of the level, and clear your way from enemies.
Right now it looks kind of empty. If you have suggestions, tell us. I was thinking also of a brightness HDMA, but not sure. What do you think?

Stage theme and boss theme here, even if obsolete, they'll be reported since neither me and Vitor are happy of them:
Broken Moon
Onigashima in the Fairyland ~ Missing Power

Also, since we didn't show so much lately, I'm updating some recent redone music: Seija's stage theme and Alice's stage theme.

As always, feedback and etc. is always appreciated! #thp{;)}
Hi All Smw Central Wakana You Make Touhou Mario 2 : Undefined Fantastic Object 3d Game Smw Rom Hack ?
Is it going to have new maps normal maps?
Oh my gosh, Wakana, your ports are amazing as always!! #thp{O_O2} Mysterious Purification Rod sounds incredible, but I think maybe one of the channels (the one that has those four notes right before the main melody that's in all the Touhou title screen themes, I don't know if I'm being clear enough) is a little quiet, but it's an incredibly minor thing. Keep up the good work!! You know, even the ports that you consider bad I find are amazing, so I can't imagine how great the final ones will be like! #thp{^_^}

Not looking too bad - I like mainly your choice of colours in this stage, they work well together and set an appropriate tone for the cavern.

However, despite that, the background itself doesn't really say it's a cavern, since the rocks look like mountains, and I'll be honest, even I thought they were before reading :/ My suggestion's simple enough: add some rocks on layer 3 to give the impression that you are undreground, then you're good :3

Other than that, I'm liking it - I disagree that it looks empty, I find it anything but, it just needs to be more appropriate.

Keep it up and good luck! ^^
[suggestion] in nue's attack where the 4 flames emit the laser, I might be nitpick about that: the player might think it a non-laser attack (before it emits) and since this kind of a laser is instant-traveling, (not cirno's laser on th6, those are short stream, I mean lasers like in patchouli' library before the midboss (I think) and remilia's spell card: "Heaven's Punishment "Star of David""), if a player is unfortunate to be under the green flames (unknownly gunna get hurt), the player has no time to react the instant the laser becomes visible and damages (pops up and harm). Try making the laser a harmless thin white line to indicate a warning before the harming comes into effect.

I'm not Wakana but I will ask him later about this, but thanks!

It's not really a cavern, but an underground city as you can see here and here. But yeah, currently the graphics aren't really that good currently, specially after I saw the image I just linked. We will see what we can do in future.

I don't think that's needed. First you're plsying it in full screen, so you can notice the half transparent lasers and dodge time in enough time. Plus it plays SFX when the half transparent lasers appear and another when they into full light lasers so hurting the player.

Anyway, thanks for the, few comments. Unfortunately both Wakana and me have null motivation and time to continue this project, so we won't show anything new for now. You're still free to comment what we shown so far (see first post), that is basically the entire hack work.

Just some minor suggestions for graphics...

For the background, maybe you could add like those fire lantern things in the background (similar to the candle flame from the original SMW castle levels, maybe), but it already looks pretty good.

For the foreground, you could possibly add some houses that you can stand on (possibly even add the lanterns as obstacles.) Another thing, personally, I've always imagined the ground as something like this or at least more silvery than brown.

Keep up the amazing work! (and don't be afraid to take a break if you need one) #thp{=D}
