Nintendo Direct....uh, April 1, 2015

Yeah but if they're on steam you'll buy and never play them.

the only one that had me interested for a bit was octodad, I've heard about it, but never even knew what the heck it was, it looks fun, but I might as well pirate on PC

Play the first one first, it's free. Dadliest Catch is a sequel. Haven't played the sequel yet but the first one was a lot of fun, I'm just not sure how they could keep the mechanics interesting enough for a sequel.

You actually can play gamecube games on your Wii U (via wii menu) with some modding methods. You can also even use dualshock 3 or 4 controllers (as they do have analog triggers) and gamecube ones with the adapter.

I think you're referring to "Nintendon't", but that one is actually an interpreter for Gamecube games, so you could consider it some kindo f emulation. The games are still not running on the Wii U natively. Yes, they ran natively on the Wii, but that is because the Wii actually had Gamecube hardware in it. The Wii U only has Wii hardware in it, not Gamecube hardware.

Although, of course, since the games run on Wii U at all, it proves that in some way or another the Wii U should actually be able to emulate Gamecube games.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!

The Wii didn't have GameCube hardware in it. The Wii's CPU is literally an overclocked version of the GameCube's CPU. Nintendon't is an interpreter, not an emulator, it isn't emulating the gamecube hardware. It's basically just serving as a wrapper for the native GC support, allowing you to load the games from an ISO. And it's running on the Wii hardware, not the Wii U hardware, you can run it on a regular Wii too (and it's the same program).

The only actual issue is the disc drive, the Wii U disc drive can't read gamecube discs. But there's nothing at all stopping them from putting GC games on VC.

You do have a point there. But there are probably still a few good reasons why GC games aren't on Wii U yet, because from the sound of it, it shouldn't be too hard to run GC games on Wii U, so if it was only for the technical implementation, they would have probably already put one or two GC games on Wii U. My guess is that there are other reasons why this hasn't happened yet. Maybe something like system guidelines or stuff like that. For example: Can you easily quit from "GC mode" to Wii U mode without rebooting the console? Guidelines like these (or similar) could be what's preventing GC games from appearing on the Wii U so far.

This is probably the reason why we haven't seen GCN games on the Wii U yet. The hardware is there, but there are caveats. We can see a similar situation when you run DSiware games (or the GBA ambassador games) on a 3DS; the system reboots into a different mode and you lose the functionality of the 3DS menu.

but they have downloadable wii games for wii U now Do those reboot the console into wii mode? Can you access the Wii U menu from those? Really however those are done, the same thing should be able to work for gamecube games, since the wii hardware can still run GC games. So if they have some self-imposed rule about doing that, they're breaking it with the Wii games anyway.

The only problem i can think of is the lack of a GC memory card slot, but homebrewers have alreay managed to emulate GC memory cards, and it shouldn't be particularly difficult (as a side note it's pretty fucking stupid that they didn't do this on the Wii... they really were incredibly lazy when it came to GameCube support on the wii). That and supporting different controllers i guess but neither of those are at all difficult issues to solve.

More than likely. Which means my name will be on their blacklist...
Let's milk Sunny Milk. Then she'll have enough money to fund Sunny Milk Real Estate.

If they would have cared enough to order a Cease and Desist on Lunar Magic (or any ROM hacking tool/site for that matter) they would have done it in the last 15 years.
Sorry for bumping up such an old post (the Direct was last month) but to those dogging on Mario Maker....

Can you in all honesty easily create something other than a "Vanilla Super Mario World Hack that restores the feel of the original" in as short a time as you can theoretically in Mario Maker?

Really, this is my favorite thing out of the Direct and I am appalled at the community's distaste for it. More appalled than usual.
