My untitled hack (News and 1 SS!)

Link Thread Closed

Standard

I'm going to start another hack, and I hope I don't lost interest on SMW Hacking again. I'm finishing the World #1 now, I have a plot but I don't have a title. Suggestions to the title are always welcome. Here it is, my plot:

I'll put custom blocks (I'll make some), custom sprites and custom music. Now I'll show some screenshots:

1-1: Green Plains

It's the first level. Easy, and it has no secrets. Goombas and Koopas inhabit these plains.

1-2: South Highlands

I only have this screen for now. Tweeters made their first appearance on the highlands.

1-3: Water Pond

I'm showing the underwater areas only, since I haven't chosen the background for the main area. Many cheep-cheeps appear on this water... pond!

1-4: Little Cave

I think Layer 3 Underground Tileset is the best option. I haven't found a background to fit with this FG. So, on this cave you'll find buzzy beetles, spike tops and also ninjis.

1-5: Mouser's Castle

The boss of this castle is of course, Mouser. On his minions you'll find few koopas and few goombas, bony beetles, dry bones, thwomps and thwimps.

Overworld

First Island. A standard island, where Mushroom Town was teleported.

Comments, suggestions, construtive critiscism, all things are welcome.

What can I say? It's a good, standard, well organized SMW hack.

AS IF I KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE.

Hack Status: Cat Adventure Deluxe

Since 2006

I love the look of that castle! Keep up the good work! My only complaint is that there is a bit of a style clash in Little Cave. Just Sayin'...
Clashing GFX ahoy!
I don't like the green grass in the cave level, and many of the graphics appear to be lifted from SMB3, but the Mouser Castle appears to be well thought out and it looks like fun.
Looks very good! put out the first world as a demo right away! =)

Thanks for all comments!

-About the cave I'm going to change the FG tileset and find a BG for it.
-About the graphics I think the SMB3 Graphics are good, but the next levels won't have them, since I'm avoiding using many graphics from a unique game.
-About the demo, I'm planning to release it when I have finished about 2 or 3 worlds, then I'll release the whole hack.

I recently finished Mouser's Castle, and I'm going to start World 2. I have 3 new screenshots to show:

1-4: Little Cave

When you finish the cave part, you go to this area, where the goal sphere is. Please comment about the pallete; It was supposed to be a night area.

1-5: Mouser's Castle

Another area of Mouser's Castle; The Lava is on Layer 2, and it's controlled by the ON/OFF Switch. Also I'm seriously thinking about editing the Layer 3 Windows, since I think it clashes with the FG.

And the final area of Mouser's Castle, as you can see it's where you fight Mouser. He throws bombs and it takes 3 bombs to kill him, like in SMB2.

Comments, suggestions, construtive critiscism, all things are welcome.

very well done. looks great so far. =)
yeah,it looks great,i relly like the looks of that Mouser battle...
- ignore the watermarks, working on a fix for those
I'm definitely not a fan of the SMB3 graphics, but it looks good so far, especially Mouser's Castle. I'll give the demo a try when it comes out.

I really like it so far, and unlike some people, I like SMB3 graphics. The graphics are very nice together and the level design seens quite good, could you show a video of a level? So I can see your level design. The overworld is also very nice, and Mouser's castle seens to be the most interesting level as the others mentioned. Looking forward to play your hack, and please, do not give it up!

First, thanks for all comments. So many here liked the Mouser's Castle.. I'm going to start the World #2, and I'm thinking about releasing a demo when I finish World #3 now, after that I'll release the whole game. I'm not working on it fast, so I think I won't give up if I continue the work on that way.

After some words, it's time to show something new:

Green Plains

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7cwUFWbjr-I"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7cwUFWbjr-I" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I uploaded my fist video of my hack, and also it's the first level, Green Plains. Sorry for uploading the video without sound, since my sound isn't wanting to work. Don't worry about the midway bar and the Overworld colors; The next video I'll upload it won't contain these glitches.

Calm Sea

Where you starts; There's some tweeters and it has Layer 3 Water, as you can see.

Another random part of the level; There are some Green Piranha Plants coming out of some pipes...

A Sky area of the Calm Sea; You'll see here Clapin' Chucks and Koopas.

The end part of that area of this level. You'll enter in a pipe and then there's more; The underwater part (also it's the next one) itself is finished, but again I'm finding a BG for it.

This level looks really nice, but I would suggest changing the name, it doesn't look like a sea at all, if you want to make it look like a sea use a sand FG or something like that. If you don't want to make it like a sea or don't want to change anything, for the name I would recommend something like Calm Falls or Calm Paradise. I haven't seen the video yet, I haven't used my computer for a while so it is sucking a bit, however, I'll watch this video soon.
The SMAS graphics mixed with SMW, nice blend. Your level design on top of this mix up really gives this hack a brand new feel.
The 0xc0000005 error:
That's what my computer had and has on my computer.
I couldn't do anything with my computer, it was done through the task manager. Every now and then those rundll.exe errors occurs, but all of this does not stop me from working on my hack.

Thanks for the comments! I changed the name to Calm Paradise; It sounds great for my level, much better than Calm Sea. Now I have five new screens, for two levels I made. I haven't made a video for now, because I'm trying to put my sound output/input to work properly.

Southern Ocean:

In short words, it's a basically underwater level, with a small "not underwater" area where the goal waits you.

Cheep-Cheeps are the most common enemies you see here. Also there are some Urchins, Spiny Blue Cheep-Cheeps, and more sea-related enemies.

Random area of the Southern Ocean.

"Not Underwater" area of Southern Ocean.

Yellow Tower:

I might change the Tower to another "building name", so that's a provisory name. Many interesting puzzles waits you.

Outside area of the Yellow Tower. NOTE: I broke the smashable bricks and defeated the enemies, that's why it's too empty.

Inside the Yellow Tower. Nothing more to say about it. ANOTHER NOTE: I didn't put any enemies inside the tower.

Comments, suggestions, construtive criticism, all things are welcome.

Your hack looks Really Great!

and... are you really from Brazil?
É brasileiro(a)? De onde?

parabéns pelo hack ;)
I'm in university(medicine) now, and it gives me almost no free time. THIS MEANS THAT I WON'T COME BACK TO SMW CENTRAL. ;)

A few of my songs at youtube.

Looking at the Yellow Tower screenshot is like getting a rusty nail shoved in my pupil. Fix it.

Well...it IS the Yellow Tower, :)

But yeah, it hurts the eyes. I can't wait to play this hack.

@gpetry: Yes, I'm Brazilian, from Rio Grande do Sul exactly. Are you from Brazil too? Thank you for the comment. =P
Sim, eu sou Brasileiro, do Rio Grande do Sul exatamente. Você é do Brasil também? Obrigado pelo comentário. =P

@TMT: I tried to fix it, see below if it looks a bit better. I think it's okay now, but I need other people's comments =).

@Gunblazer 42: Yes, the Yellow Tower, where the Yellow Switch is. Also, thanks for the comment. See below for the upgraded BG of Yellow Tower.

Also sorry for the long time I don't post here (15 days) but I wasn't able to continue my Hack, I wasn't on my house for two weeks. I returned to my house on Friday. So... Let's talk about updates. I'm going to show more parts of my hack, now with only one screenshot, but two videos:

First the SS:

Yellow Palace:

I changed it a bit, it's no longer a vertical level, now it's a horizontal level. Does it look better than the old one?

Videos:

Central Highlands:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kM5ytIYQKYQ"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kM5ytIYQKYQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Mouser's Castle:
<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGJ3XzHuyC0"> </param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGJ3XzHuyC0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

Next time I promise I'll take pictures from World #2.

When you finish the cave part, you go to this area, where the goal sphere is. Please comment about the pallete; It was supposed to be a night area.

That's a great start with the background, but you also need to change the clouds, the foreground, and the sprite colors to match. If this is a night area, EVERYTHING is supposed to be darker.

image19.png
A Sky area of the Calm Sea; You'll see here Clapin' Chucks and Koopas.

Where's the foreground!?! D:

Perhaps maybe it's just me, but those cloud platforms blend in too much with the background. The default clouds (accessible by switching to the Cloud/Forest tileset) at least had some fringes you could put on them in the tileset specific objects! ^^;
