General TV Show / Film Discussion Thread

Watching You're All Surrounded. Once again, my hyung Lee Seung Gi is here but this time he's with Go Ah Ra.
The legend of Korra season 3 just ended. Thank god there's a fourth season coming out next year!

By the way, one more thing:

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ZUKO'S MOM?!!!?!
Read The Search and find out.

I watched it on Wednesday, I have to say, I was confused and rewinded it a lot to get everything. 7.5/10 for me.

The movie bases on a group trying to find NOMAD, a hacker who hacked their systems but in reality, he is an alien AI. A dude has weak legs, and when is in a facility (which they believe is Area 51), he had his leg amputated for alien tech ones. Another has his arms amputated for alien tech ones as well. A girl in the group has alien tech injected in the spine. The group has a tattoo stamped on their wrist "2.3.5.41", but they don't know what it means. I don't want to spoil anymore, but that's the gist of it.

I started watching Gravity Falls while I was sick in bed with a pretty bad fever, and I've fallen in love with the world and the characters. It reminds me a lot of Rick and Morty with all the surreal humor and interesting plots. Only difference is that while Rick and Morty tries to be more grounded by explaining it with science(ish) Gravity Falls is more vague, just letting things be supernatural (as of where I am at least).

But yeah the writing is seriously clever, the visual gags are super surreal without being too lolsorandom, and the main characters are written so well and have such interesting but believable relationships with one another. Plus there's an over-arching love story that doesn't feel shoe-horned in, so that's great.
ask me if i give a f*ck...
holyshitguise, Korra Book 4 trailer just got released. It's got mech suits, earth reich, short haired Korra, Zhu Li villain, and all tons of shit. This is literally the most excited I've ever been over a show.
I just watched "Over the Garden Wall".

It was beautiful, I loved that Victorian autumn atmosphere and the animation in general. If you liked Gravity Falls, you'll like this.
i just lurk sometimes
Well, what do you know. Who'dve thunk it?

Binging the terminator series. Salvation is what screwed it up, and Terminator Genesys (2015) might bring it back. I'm not sure. The first one is always the most legit out of the series.

Very sure that doesn't belong here.

EDIT:

In other news, 50 Shades of Grey came out in 1080p. Seriously, what the heck is up with all of these people wanting to see this movie so badly? There was a lot of sexual assaults and crimes similar to that all tying back to the movie itself. I saw that in a meme once that couples don't want to watch pornography, but they wanted to see 50 Shades of Grey. LIke WTF?

YET ANOTHER EDIT:

I'm getting back into the TV show Scorpion. I haven't kept up with the episodes, but now that the school grading period is over, now I can catch up.

^ I've heard something of that sort a while ago, and after all that success the first movie earned, it's not a surprise to see the second one being announced anytime soon. I wonder how they're going to do the plot and if it won't be disappointing to the viewers whenever it gets released.

This thread has been dormant for some time, so I thought I would introduce a topic for discussion.

Have any of you read about Inside Out, the next Pixar film? The film, based on the poster, looks like something that Dreamworks would make (not that that is necessarily bad, but it's quite odd for a Pixar movie.)

I'm hoping this is a return to form for Pixar. I feel like they peaked at Up and since then it's been downhill. I'm not really expecting a movie as fantastic as Up but I'm hoping it's on par with something like The Incredibles or Wall-E.
Heard of that months ago, and from what I've seen in a few sources, it will probably turn out as better as the sequels of recent movies that went downhill rather quickly. I'm so hyped to watch it, since the concept already caught my attention.

I watched Full Metal Jacket the other night and loved the shit out of it. If anyone can recommend me any war movies like this that are both situationally hilarious and still action-packed and serious at points, I'd appreciate it. If not, then I'm also looking for quality war movies in general. :V

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!

The scope is totally different (more on the administrative level) and it's a pretty different feel (not really any action) but Doctor Strangelove is pretty great. Same director as Full Metal Jacket too, and it's an extremely funny satire of the cold war. Also I haven't actually seen the movie but if it's anywhere near as good as the book (which people tell me it is) Catch-22 is definitely worth watching. Good Morning Vietnam has a pretty good comedy-drama balance too, tho it's less heavy on the action as well. As far as more serious stuff goes, Apocalypse Now is fantastic (it's basically a modernization of Heart of Darkness if you liked that). Das Boot is pretty good too but the book is better. Also it's old as shit but All Quiet On The Western Front is pretty fantastic if you can deal with watching a movie from the 1930. Platoon is good too.

As for stuff with more action Inglorious Basterds is very action packed but definitely still not very serious, being a Tarantino movie it's over the top as hell but it's pretty entertaining. Saving Private Ryan and The Hurt Locker are probably worth a watch too, though they're pretty serious and not incredibly realistic, they're exciting to watch at least.

Man I've seen way more war movies than I'd thought, sorry for the wall of text. I had a history teacher in high school who liked to show us movies and I watched a bunch with my dad I guess.

Doctor Strangelove is outright my most favorite movie ever. Kubrick is a fucking a master director. The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, 2001: The Odyssey: you can never go wrong with him. One of my most favorite directors of all time.

On the topic of war movies, Inglorious Basterds is about right. Though if you're fine with something more dramatic, The Pianist is also an amazing movie. Schindler's List, though I guess not really a "war" movie, is also very good, but more on the serious side.
